Hey Billy, I’m a dog trainer located in Austin, TX. I’m heading out to the Grand Canyon in roughly 4 weeks to hit my first ultra run thanks to inspiration from a few of your videos. I’d like to return the favor by giving you, Charlie, and the family free lessons. I rescued my dog Leo off the streets this year, and it has taught me so much! As I understood, they tried several hours to get her but unfortunately didn't succeed due to the dogs anxiety 😥😥

It was an incredibly difficult decision. We tried very hard to save the other dog as well…we spent about four hours there trying to gain her trust, but she was that much older and wilder, and it was just impossible without some professional help (and we did try to find a shelter that would come help us, but we were hours out of cell coverage and none of the local shelters had any space or ability to travel to come help us catch her). At the end of the day, we could have left Charlie there simply to keep them together, but I don’t believe he would have made it very far. He was small and running all over the road when we found him. There are apparently several hundred thousand wild dogs who live off of the land in desert areas like that, and most of them don’t live past a couple years old because they get hit by a car or eaten by a predator. As hard as it was to take Charlie without his friend, I do believe that giving one of those dogs a good life full of love - especially when Charlie is clearly a dog that thrives off of affection and companionship and wasn’t suited to an isolated life of scavenging - is better than leaving both of them to that fate. 💔
