I believe Mary was there with you on this day. She knew there were kindred spirits on her beach. The fossil was a warm thank you to treasure. I have no doubt however it happened she had something to do with it. Merry Christmas

Such a fitting tribute and fantastic video on Mary! I can’t believe it’s only now that they’re raising a statue of her, her discoveries founded the basis of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and lots of other important revelations. And incredible that you found the plesiosaur vertebra too! So perfect for this video!

What a delight, and thank you for sharing the story of poor Mary Anning who deserved such accolade but was a victim of her time. The vertebrate is such a stunning find, especially when you think of how many millions of years old it is and you have just found it!! Congratulations. I loved some of the other finds, especially the winkle shell, and the white hag stone looked like a swans head! Lyme never disappoints, you always find something. Growing up in West Somerset another favourite haunt of ours for fossils was the beautiful West Quantoxhead if ever you are in that area, a stunning part of the world and a bit of a hidden haunt. Glad you had such a lovely birthday Fleur. (Sorry I spelt your name wrong on my latest cartoon, I only noticed after I sent it. Love to all. Nick.

In the 1974, I was stationed in the Army at Killeen Texas. This part of the state had been under water and a part of a massive inland sea. I have an Ammonite fossil like the one at 23:57 that is twice the size of that one, white and ridged on both sides. The ones in Texas have a squiggled scale pattern in between the ridges. So amazing to find. And it was the smallest one I could carry.

I have a question, has anyone else ever found fossils at bottle dumps? I have found Two very large ones, one of which is what I believe to be a brain coral and I'm not sure what the other one is but it's almost like it's on the back of a lump of concrete with lots of pyratised crinoid stems. The dumps are nowhere near the sea and they were found at different sites so it seems really strange 🤔

The plesiosaur vertebrae is just amazing. Mary Anning is a Legend. I didn't even know about the belemnites or the crinoid stars then but if/When I ever get back to the UK I will definitely be heading back to East Devon and Dorset to go fossil hunting again. Sometimes I wish I could travel back in time just to tell people like Mary what an inspirational influence they are to us in the future. Imagine how discouraging it must have been to be an intelligent woman back then. Personally I would probably be burned at the stake, stoned to death or locked up in one of their asylums for being an upity female. Maybe it's a good thing I can't time travel.

What a wonderful homage to Mary Anning! I loved all of this fossil hunting trip....especially that you remembered Oscar in your finds. Fleur, like you, I love the susurration of stones in the surf -- that rolling and rumbling reaches deeply inside. @16:20 That certainly looked like an echinoid to me....hope you took it home. The ammonites you found were lovely, Kate....but you are right, that plesiosaur vertebra is remarkable and so appropriate to Mary's Lyme Regis. Well done you.
