Title: “Conner was forced to play Saya no Uta”, yoooo this is wild
@Arton_White

Let's GOOOO!
I disagree with the statement “why not just make a book.” That would deprive the story of the art, music, and choices. Using Fate as an example, the bad endings really help illustrate further how dangerous the Holy Grail War is (as well as providing an awesome ending in Sparks Liner High) and the music is integral in creating the right atmosphere. Not having fluff doesn’t automatically make it better either, fluff can help people better connect with the characters, which is especially important if the story is character driven. While it was pretty good I think the impact of Saya no Uta could have been greater if I actually cared about Fuminori and his friends. Still, glad that Connor is enjoying it so far.

Nah a good book with proper prose could provide me with a much better experience than any fo the Fate art ever could. But there again I hate VN and unironically believe them to be picture books for lazy/unimaginative man-children.

@@Luissv72 I mean, I could point to the Ace Attorney games as well. So much of why those games work, despite the ridiculousness of the situations the characters find themselves in is because of just how well the game incorporates the use of music, sprites and sound effects to convey the emotional reactions of the characters and to provoke them in the player as well.

@@Luissv72It is true that books and novels are definitely something you read and imagine or try to imagine the story itself. But please don't just disrespect Visual Novel and think of it as something that people who can't create a book or enjoy a book would create or read. God, that's not true at all, even Novels do have illustrations that you can rely on to imagine the characters (no matter if the character appearances are important to your imagination or not, it is great for Novel readers), and certainly that's helping the readers enjoy the story itself Visual Novel are literally games, they're interactive, and a proper and compelling story has every single visual in there helps you understand the story not through the narrative or the story told by the author themselves in books. And everything that makes a Visual Novel contributes to an experience completely out of the expectations from reading a book That's why I think there are people who are willing to create Visual Novels despite the fact that it takes a lot of work to make their story into a Visual Novel. If you have experiences with books then I guess book is more of a choice since you're used to it, there are still people like me who had a lot of amazing experiences from both books and Visual Novels. Regardless I wouldn't have made a stand here if I thought VNs were made to be thought as picture books that are for people who couldn't read a book because they're lazy/can't imagine well. Those great stories delivered as VNs that touched ton of people, surely mean more to them than just that. A Visual Novel is a story told with visuals, with voice acting, with music, with characters drawn and with genuine emotions poured into everything, so they can be a fictional story that mattered to the people who create, who love and treasure them. I hope you know that

@@Luissv72I think the difference between visual novel and novel in the end is: playing a game and reading a novel. In visual novel, you kind of given choices and special mechanic that might has multiple ending. Meanwhile with novel you don't have interaction or make a choice and just enjoy the story.
That fact that the boys want all or most VNs to be very short is just painful to hear. I think they just don't have the time for it and that's okay. Visual Novels are just not meant for everyone
The worst part is that the story gets even more messed up as it goes on to the point where you want the MC to lose.

Meh. While I won't say I wanted him to win, I won't say I wanted him and Saya to win either and that's purely because it's difficult to judge whether his and/or Saya's actions are "good or evil"(or even morally grey for that matter) given how they operate on completely different set of values caused by his aliens senses. It's literally physically and emotionally impossible for him to interact with anyone of his friends and while certainly the way he deals with this through dehumanizing them despite knowing the reason why they look they way they are to him isn't the best can't really fault him as any other normal option (seeking help) would have others not believe him, view him as crazy, or have him end up as a guinea pig. Even then, him choosing to keep his agnosia ends really badly for him in one ending and in another one it ends really REALLY badly for- well... Iykyk.
I think they made Saya so young to show off how absolutely fucked up this guy is. He spent like 6 months in this awful world, and then he saw the last girl on Earth in his eyes, and went for it, regardless of morality.
Nahhh connor playing Saya no Uta is the last thing I've expected to see here 😂

The last thing you could expect from Connor is reading texts
Realistically the boys should have picked an ace attorney game before this, ace attorney has actual gameplay as well, too ease him into it they kind of just threw him in the deep end.
Connor starting his eroge arc is crazy it's kinda surprising to see the rest of the boys aren't that familiar with the genre.... Joey we know already played a good amount (though it clear he's still far from being a fan) but garnt is especially surprising because Sydney plays them all the time
Saya no Uta as your literal first VN seems like an insane pick. I don't remember that much about it other than just it being unsatisfying when the initial outset was very interesting, but then all of the twists were like obvious immediately.

The fact Garnt recommends Connor’s first VN being written by Gen “Urobutcher” is impressive, just to show how he revolutionized the anime/VN media. Sadly, we don’t see much of Urobuchi’s recent works making any strides. Let’s hope he will make his name again with the Fourth Madoka Magica movie.😮

im guessing its good as a first because its digestible and easy to understand for the amount of time one plays it, which is relatively short compared to many intimidatingly long vns for a vn newbie.
VNs should be at least 10 hours long, preferrably 30+. 10 is the minimum to get invested if it isn't like a horror thriller like Saya no Uta.

The "stuff" they found in the refrigerator in saya no uta gives me nightmares...
I pushed this memory to the darkest recesses of my mind and this video brought it up to the surface 😢
I mean ideally even if visual novel isn't something like Slay the Princess with tons of dialog options, the existence of audiovisual element should make it so that it isn't just a book. Ideally, its kinda easy to get to "Kinda like bad book where reader isn't expected to imagine what characters look like" result accidentally
Wild? From the dude that skip cinematic? Thats torture
Aight, Katawa Shoujo next please

Oh man… Umineko, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time
Honestly this is the best one to try out if you never played vns before. I think one of the newest ones Paranormasight is also very good as a starter vn. Good story, good art and not long (for those who don't want 100+ hours vn). There are some rabbit holes like Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, Zero Escape, etc. Or something close to vn (but not a vn) and crazy like 13 Sentinels where your brain is going to be cooked with everything that is going on there. But it is one of the most impressive ones for sure.
...Just admit you either don't have time/cannot manage your time to read a novel anymore. Why would you even call it a "Visual Novel" anymore if it's short af?... Sure, you have light novel that span 30 volume and can read through that but cannot save a visual novel and come back to it like so? Unironically living up to their podcast name ffs... No wonder why the market these days are either 2-3 hours VN that barely has anything worthwhile beside the barebone boring repetitive settings or R18 illustration fest. Nobody has the attention span to sit down and read anymore. Imagine these guys sitting through a game like Majikoi, that spans multiple entries with a routes chart that can look like 5 family trees.
@auztarmalow15
2 күн бұрын
I have those literal same thoughts but with books instead of visuals novels. Gamers can't get into vns unless gameplay, vn readers/gamers can't get into books because multiple routes they need or find it hard to read something without voice acting, music, or visuals. To each their own but hey, everyone has a different level of patience and tolerance so that in of itself is respectable if at least not agreeable.
@sakuraorihime3374

Yeah, too little long vns comes out nowadays, it sucks :v I'm okay with short, but much prefer the behemoth sized ones, and bruh... And it's so fun when they're choke full of dead ends and alternative routes! Really shows how serious the situation is(for the deadly ones), usually.
asking for a visual novel that is literally a book to be more digestible is the most brainrot shit i've heard yall will never be able to handle honkai impact 3rd that is a visual novel with gameplay and has over 200+ hours of story and still getting more chapters

YES CONNOR Saya No Uta is so good for how short it is. I've been feeling this for a long time, but I just want to get this off my chest and warn anyone who wants to understand or try Visual Novels. Visual novels are catered towards people who really want more emotional attachment / impact from anime in general. (Characters, story, music) It feels like a lot of anime and video games come out with some very unique ideas but are unable to execute a full experience. Anime but ESPECIALLY video games have been getting a lot of mainstream attention but because of that are converting to corporate practices with every consecutive year. Unfortunately, it's inevitable at this point. (Micro-transactions, unfinished games on launch, poor optimization, etc.) (Time-crunches, lack of funding, inflation, shorter episodic formats, 24ep > 12ep > 11ep) IMO, this really hinders the storytelling/pacing & character development for Anime. But it is getting better in some ways though. Visual Novels are ALMOST the right medium to merge books, LN, & Anime while retaining almost pretty much everything. At least, more than half of the ones I've read blows EVERYTHING away Anime has to offer except animation quality. And I've barely scratched 5% of the genre. Only caveat is: 1. You have to invest so much of your life for Visual Novels 2. Harem... 3. Sometimes self-fulfillment, self-insert generic, passive MC's 4. "SEKS" sells so be prepared to find a lot of adlut content. Rant over
@marcorodriguez8792

I agree 100%. Good rant 👍
I already could tell you guys wouldn’t enjoy the usual visual novels with tons of slice of life moments anymore. (Connor definitely won’t enjoy it) Sure, I would like to get back into the story and it does get a bit slow but I love seeing the characters that I grew to care about just enjoy life happily before continuing on with the story. ESPECIALLY if things get worse for them later on. Will never play VNs like this though. (Nor the eroge ones) Horror is absolutely NOT my genre and as a person who gets easily squeamish when it comes to gore, this is big nope for me. (Tsukihime’s level of violence is fine though)

Wow, man literally sees everything as flesh, blood and guts due to psychological trauma. And obviously, because of this, anyone will go crazy. "He's weirdo" they say. Wow, what a surprise.
People complaining about the boy's take on visual novels when they haven't picked up any book at a library. I went through alot of adventure novels as a kid, then picked up some romcoms/drama as a teen. Granted I'd be too pu$$y to read stuff like Eragon or GoT, but it's also knowing that it's so good made me not pick it up. I watched KZreadrs play DDLC and I considered that my playthrough. I'm not gonna traumatize myself knowing that I "killed my favorite character and her friends". Being an adult sucks, we lack more time. But even if we had more time, we'd use that to extend vacations, binge anime, finish our Steam library of games, and/or finish my collection of "knowledge" on my booksheves
