We picked up a lightly used Garmin RV760 for $20 and love it. The lifetime map updates are a game changer and having RV specific routing is great. Garmin is the only way to go.

We bought the 1095 and love it, however, there were times where I needed to concentrate on the road, and my wife couldn't help me navigate because the unit was too far away. We fixed that buy purchasing an additional 895 for the passenger side :) I love how it can tell you how many seconds until your turn. We did have one bad experience recently, where it didn't know of a road closure (the google knew, but tried to re-route us down a weight limited road), but other than that it's been perfect

RV Life, Sygic, and TomTom all have RV specific GPS. From what I understand, RV Life uses the same map provider as GARMIN. Just a different look GUI. RV Life works with CarPlay now and will soon work with Android Auto. Sygic and TomTom both work with CarPlay and Android Auto today. These options also allow you to put your RV information in them so your not led down the wrong roads. I do highly recommend you try RV Life. Izzy & MJ just wait until you drop that 8” PDN and break it. I’d much rather plan a trip with my cell phone sitting on my couch or outside under the awning and not have to lug a 8” screen around. You always have your phone with you.

The Garmin 895/1095 are great units and work well. Dont trust the real-time traffic when paired with your phone for this is awful and will re-route you for a small slow down in traffic. I have a 1090 but now keep it as backup because I installed the Kenwood radio in the dash to replace the Xite one Newmar put in. The Kenwood DNR has the Garmin RV navigation built in so now I have the 360 camera views and navigation on one screen in the dash with no other devices taking up dash space. The screen clarity on the Kenwood is also much clearer than the Xite.

We bought the rand McNally and it worked pretty well but after 2 years they stopped supporting it. No warning, no offer of upgrade, just stopped getting upgrades. I called them and was told not to bother buying the next version as it would also be stopped. And basically, too bad. I was shocked. It was not a cheap item and is now worthless. Glad to hear that Garmin is working but very leary of buying another. Rvparky and other planning apps will take height and length into account when planning.

I have the RV890 and have one issue. Make sure you have good internet connection as the first step in updating the maps is to delete the old map. I was unable to get the new map to download as it kept failing. Given this is used by RVer’s who generally use a hotspot they should have a better system for updating the maps.

Great review, Izzy, thank you! Oh yeah, that built in Rand McNally unit is terrible, unreliable! We knew right away we needed to purchase a standalone GPS. After some research a few years ago, we purchased a Garmin, which if I recall correctly, is the RV770. It's a great aid but has occasionally demonstrated a few quirks. For example, it tried to take us past an RV park that we had specifically mapped our route to and sometimes seems to have trouble locating satellites, even when there are no obstructions! I'm old school, I still like to preplan trips using maps, making little "Cliff Notes" that I'll use along the way at certain critical points, just to keep the GPS honest! It helps to have a good navigator too! This newer model looks great, I like the bigger screen. Might have to check it out.

We were in the same situation where our GPS's were outdated and no longer supported. I bought a Garmin 770 right after we bought our coach then a year ago I purchased a 1095 for the wife to use to look for rest areas and truck stops etc while I can use my 770 at the same time. By the way, I purchased the 1095 from TechnoRV while at the Tampa Super Show also They have a nice bean bag type of mount that I bought with it that just sits on our dash and it has worked perfectly (no screws required) I like the 770 because it has a neat feature called 'Live Track' that connects to a phone app. It will send an email to friends or family members with a link to Google Maps to show them in real time exactly where we are they can even see us driving down the road in real time. Cool !

Beyond all the good stuff you mentioned, Garmin is a family friendly company. Hubby worked with both the men who started the company, prior to it's beginning, then eventually worked there. When the 'Min' part of Garmin was in the US at the Olathe, kansas place, as he walked through the halls, he knew peoples names, knew enough about them to ask intelligent questions about their kids, spouses, etc.

That’s my biggest gripe about some of the supervisors in companies when they do a company wide survey. They want to know why employees aren’t happy, yet they ignore you or look the other way when you pass in the hall. How hard is it to say hello?

Great video this evening, thank you. I use the Garmin 1090 - I opted for the larger screen because, as you get older, you need to use larger fonts...thus a larger screen! My Dad doesn't do well in the big cities, so when he decided he would be good to drive from Gettysburg to Philly, I asked if he was sure. He said yes, and we headed for Philly. He did great until we were 3 blocks from the hotel. The Garmin said to turn left @ the next light, but it was 1-way to the right, and Dad panicked! I got him to relax and go straight, that I saw the hotel and had it under control. We simply went to the next street, turned left, went far enough that we were further than the hotel, turned left again, went to the street the hotel was on and made 1 more left. When he put it in park, he made the biggest exhale of releif I've ever heard, handed me the keys, and didn't even ASK to drive for about 10 days! He's 86 now, and we still get a big laugh from that one! Once again, tech is great, uo until it isn't! Great video! Keep 'em coming!

Our motorhome came with the Garmin and we are still trying to figure out how to use it. No manual or instruction. We find the WAZE works very well for us but we do keep an eye out for low structure and so on. Never led us down the wrong road or to a wrong turn. Works very well to warn us of traffic slow downs, road hazards like debris in the road, rerouteing is excellent. We like that we have a Garmin but still can’t use it fully.

A lot of Newmar owners that had the unit with the Rand McNally built in ended up swapping out the entire infotainment system. I know a couple who went with a Kenwood and I believe it has the Garmin built in. They claim that the sound and picture clarity were vastly improved. I had issues with my Garmin driving through Chicago where it froze up but I always carry the Motor Carriers Road Atlas.

Now I’m pretty tech smart and even tho it was updated and had some features you mentioned I found it lagging especially when you was waiting for an answer on an exit to get off on. That was the tip of the iceberg. I ran maps on my phone and as far as best routes the garmin was worse. . That said after using it all last year I took a 5 pound hammer, smashed it and threw it away. If it was running on a Apple system I believe it would have performed 100%
