Many years ago, in the '90s, I was on a puddle-jumper from Providence, RI to NYC. I took this flight often in those days. The last time I took it, we had to circle Manhattan in a strong storm. The word was we shouldn't have taken off knowing the weather at the destination, but the pilot wasn't allowed to land or to go back. The plane bounced up and down for about 30 minutes -- sometimes we were a little higher than the World Trade Center, and the next moment we were lower! Those are scary situations even when the pilot assures you everything is under control.

The worse turbulence you will ever experience as a passenger just know that the plane can take 50x more than that! Most important thing thing is to make sure that the plane’s does not over speed while in the turbulence! It’s no different than a pot hole in the road except you are at 35k feet.
