On sleeper bus yesterday from airport to SaPa...nice large bunk, nice aircon. Daytime with views. Good driver... no over speeding.

It’s a place called Moana in Sapa, it’s basically a photo spot at the top of the valley with really cool views. We have a video called ‘The Most Instagrammable Place In Vietnam’ which has the hand as the thumbnail pic - if you watch that video you’ll see us go there and show you around the place!

I think u where rly unlucky with the bus, and it was cheap. I have seen other youtubers with much more nicer buses. Your hotel also looks very cheap, it does the job thought, part of budgetting. One thing i dont like about Sapa is like when u guys got off the bus, ppl standing there try to sell u stuff, in Sapa they also use kids, dress them up to sell stuff, thats kinda sad, kids not getting to be kids.

Ah okay, yeah maybe we got a bit unlucky then. We booked another sleeper bus before this one (that we didn’t film) that was supposed to be a VIP sleeper and turned out to be a ‘semi sleeper’ - we’re both very tall and couldn’t even nearly fit in the seats and Grant kept getting cramp, so when this was the second bad experience we were starting to wonder if they’re all bad! The hotel was crazy cheap for such amazing views! It was basic but great value for money! Yeah we saw a fair amount of people (and children) selling things, it’s really hard for us to see because you want to be nice and buy something, but at the same time we worry that if we do, is that encouraging their parents to make them do it all the more? And as you say, kids that age should be playing and having fun not working!

I've seen some really nice VIP buses and then I've seen some not nice ones (but usually the VIP ones are really nice). One of the couples I saw had a great VIP bus was "2Passports 1Dream"...seemed like Adriana (?) really knows how to hunt down the nicest stuff as they also got a great hostel (looks like a gorgeous hotel room, not a hostel at all) when they were in Da Lat and their cruise ship room was spectacular. And yeah, I highly doubt they wash any of those blankets/pillows on the buses/trains (I hear trains are the worst type of transportation, but many vloggers do it for the experience). Some people bring their own pillowcases and such when they travel.

Ah okay, thank you! I’ll try and see which company 2 passports 1 Dream used. We’ve had two really bad experiences now - if I can convince Jordanna to ever give night buses another go it’ll have to be a good one, otherwise I’ll be in the dog house 😂 That’s a good idea bringing your own pillowcase and blanket. - I didn’t think of that! Thanks! 👍

Had to laugh at your video especially at the end about the blankets. I hate sleeper buses aka coffins on wheels. One we got in Vietnam a couple of months ago was supposed to be VIP. Looked great in the pictures and pretty good reviews. The reality was a really narrow to bunk that you couldn't roll over in. Bus swayed so much you had to hang on as you were nearly thrown out of with driver going top speed on sharp bends. Prickly awful blanket that God knows how many people used that gave me a rash on both legs that took a week to go away. We laugh now but it was seriously the 12 hour trip from hell.

Oh wow - that sounds horrible… even worse than our experience! Especially given it was 12 hours 😭 It’s such a shame because the sleeper busses are so much cheaper than private cars. We did loads of research, thought we’d picked a good company and it was still awful - it feels like it’s pure pot luck if you get a good one or not! We got another supposedly sleeper bus before this one and it was one of the really narrow ones (might be same as the one you’re describing) where there are 3 rows of chairs / beds - it was so bad, Grant is 6’2 and the ‘bed’ was maybe 5’ long so he spent 6 hours in this really awkward hunched position and kept getting cramp in his legs 😂

We booked with Viet Adventures. When we have a positive experience with a company we always try to publicise them, naming them and providing links in description etc. When we have had a disappointing one off experience we are a bit reluctant to name and shame in case a good company just had an off day.

Are you guys planning on doing the Ha Giang Loop? Many people say that's the best experience of their lives (do the 4 day one if you do). I saw a recent tour in Ba Be Lake that looks amazing. If you're in the area, consider looking for that tour.

I don’t think so. I’ve spoken to a lot of people who really rave about it. But neither me nor my wife are very good on scooters. We met some people who did it when it rained and they said they really didn’t feel safe at times on the narrow cliff edge roads, so given we’re a bit useless that’s the last thing we want to experience! 😂 My wife is keen to do it with an easyrider, but when I’ve gone on the back of bikes for long periods of time I get super uncomfortable (I’m pretty big and always feel like there’s not quite room for me, and I have a bit of a bad back) so I’m worried I won’t enjoy it.

I guess you have to bring your own sheets. It's typical that in Vietnam they are not as clean as they are compared to a first world country. You also have to be careful about drinking water and eating food in Vietnam.

Thanks for your concern but we have plenty of money. There is no airport in Sapa so we couldn’t fly, and we didn’t want to rent a car or drive scooters because the roads aren’t safe. So the best options were ‘VIP’ sleeper bus or 1st class train. We went with what we thought would be the best option.
