Always want more Pens content... As someone who has lived and died with this fanchise ever since my dad took me as a 5yr old to my first game in their inaugural season, i just hope all the Pens fans that only know from 1991on realize just how lucky we as a fan base have been for close to 40 years now. We had some really good players on those early teams, but the first half of the 80's was something ill never forget. Ill never forget going to games at the igloo and you could sit anywhere you wanted, because if there was 5k fans there that was a big crowd. I would literally whisper to my girlfriend so somebody 10 rows and 2 sections away wouldn't hear what i was saying, because of the echo and lack of noise in there. This team has pulled itself up from the pit of despair and shown this city that what lies within is a heart made of Pittsburgh steel. LETS GO PENS.... Do it for Sid, get him the Masterson, the Hart, the Lady Byng, the Ted Lindsey, and the Selke trophies that he so richly deserves. And then we go after the postseason hardware.

When he’s paired with anyone but Ryan graves his defensive metrics are fine.

So, anyone who "meh"s at his performance this season, is a meat head. End of story. When the games matter the absolute most, when the pressure is at its highest, that's when Crosby has always shined the most. He is still the best player of the last 25 years. What this guy did during the garbage trap era, the world championships, the olympics, and continues to do now in his twilight years, continues to impress. If you don't give Crosby the accolades he deserves, well, you are the problem. There's a very good reason that Crosby is McDavid's idol. Well deserved.

Having Malkin, Letang and Fleury in Pittsburgh really helped Crosby early on. Not to mention Lemieux and living with him. Take those guys away and Pittsburgh would have been the current Chicago

Same could be said about all the greats. Lemieux didn't even make it to the playoffs until his 5th season. The year he won his cup first cup, he was injured for all but around 30 games. His teammates, Mark Recchi, John Cullen, Paul Coffey, Kevin Stevens, Jaromir Jagr helped his team succeed. Take those guys away and Pittsburgh would have been the current Chicago. You can play this game with Gretzky, Messier too. It's a team sport.

@@nonamenas true, I was just thinking of when Crosby and Ovechkin came into the league, I can’t think of too many players Ovechkin had with him in his rookie years on those old capitals jerseys. Until they got Backstrom and Mike Green

Crosby was so bullied by the league, and by the fans, when he first came on the scene. "Sid the Kid". I vividly remember the viciousness of some of the ESPN sportscasters. Now look at him. Dragging the Pens to their next playoff in what can only be described as "kicking and screaming" manner. Dude's earned the respect he was denied when he first got here, and while I'm not a hug Pens fan, I gotta give credit where credit is due. Jordan needed a Pippen. McJesus needs a Draisaitl. Crosby needs a Malkin. Ovi doesn't much need anyone but his office, but we'll let it slide, given his venerable age. But in all cases, when one takes a step back, the other steps up.

Dude, he was the face of the NHL, with Ovi, for the first 13 years or so lol until McDavid and Matthews (because he plays in Toronto). Sid the Kid wasn't an insult lol he was a kid when drafted and it rhymed. Stop acting like he has some kind of "proving the doubters wrong" narrative. Dude was a lock for greatness, was great from day one and has been great ever since.

@mikeyt3784 OP is out to lunch if he thinks "Sid the Kid" was an insult. (That's just a catchy nickname that came from a place of respect.) But he's right that Crosby was unfairly scrutinized and hated by fans around the league for a huge portion of his early career, calling him a whiner for example.

@@CallsignJoNay yeah, that I agree with. I just don't think the OP said that. To be fair, though, I did kinda think that's what he was going for lol. As soon as he said Sid was "bullied" he lost me. That might be the worst take I've ever heard. Plus the "viciousness of some of the ESPN sportscasters" line lol. Just absurd.
