We Discover Georgian Polyphonic Singing (Ancient Folk Songs ) + Chechen Female Zikr Ceremony 🇬🇪

Join us on a winter van journey to discover the the ancient traditions of polyphonic singing in Georgia 🇬🇪 In collaboration with ‪@voicesoftheancestors‬ 🎙
In this episode of our van travel series we set out on a journey to discover the ancient living tradition of Georgian polyphonic singing, inspired by our invitation to a supra, a traditional Georgian feast led by a tamada or toastmaster, where we try delicious Georgian food for the first time. We then set off into the snowy Caucasus mountains to visit the Pankisi Valley, a region inhabited by the Chechen Kist people, to watch a traditional and mystical Sufi zikr ceremony performed by women in the old Duisi mosque, one of the only places in the world where it is not just led by men.
Finally we return to Georgia's capital, Tbilisi, to watch a group of young adults perform ancient folk songs learned from villagers across the different regions of Georgia.
You can expect a beautiful winter van travel adventure through the Caucasus mountains, unique lesser-known cultural traditions, and a big old dose of Georgian hospitality throughout.
Featured in this mini-documentary are Holly Taylor-Zuntz from the Voices of the Ancestors podcast ‪@voicesoftheancestors‬ without whose knowledge and passion this video wouldn't have been possible, Amer-Imeri, the young ethno-folk group in Tbilisi, and Raiza Margoshvili, the leader of the zikr ceremony in Pankisi.
Special thanks to Nazy's Guesthouse for arranging the viewing of the ceremony, and Magda Kevilishvilli for letting us film her students.
