Off-Road in Georgia's Wild Eastern Badlands 🇬🇪 (Vashlovani National Park) Vanlife Europe
Join us as we embark on a 3 day off-road journey around the desert badlands of Georgia's wild Eastern corner 🇬🇪
In this episode of our van travel series we set off to find out if our 2WD LDV Convoy camper van can tackle a 3 day off-road adventure around Vashlovani National Park, Georgia's wild Eastern corner of desert badlands, mountains and steppes.
First we explore the ruins of Manavi fortress in the Kahketi region of Georgia, before driving on to Big Shiraki, an abandoned Soviet airfield on the Shiraki Plain. Next we have to get our permits in order in Dedoplistskaro to enter Vashlovani on the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan, before we can finally leave the paved roads behind. Here we begin our three day off-road adventure around Vashlovani National Park in our 2WD LDV Convoy van, on tracks recommended for 4x4s only. We drive through Bear Canyon (Pantishara Canyon) to reach the Eldari Lowlands, home to Tush shepherds as well as wildlife like the gazelle, Caucasian leopard, bears and wolves.
We reach the furthest East point of Georgia and our journey, at Usakhelo Viewpoint on the border with Azerbaijan, proving that you really can go anywhere in an LDV.

The things you put that LDV through and places you go just amazes me whilst also setting off my anxiety 😂 I love watching your adventures and always look forward to the next upload. The information you include and quality of your videos are second to none 💚 Keep doing what you're doing guys, you two are awesome! Epic video, as usual! I would love to know what went on the ranger's head when they saw a blue van coming in his direction 😂 I was also wondering how do you guys manage to charge all of your gear, since you hadn't had much sun this winter. Thank you for sharing such inspiring content 🙏
@FromRustToRoadtrip
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, and for joining us over on Patreon too! Honestly they seemed a bit confused to see us rocking up at dusk haha We do struggle to charge stuff during the winter, more so at the moment because the recent cold snap has killed our leisure batteries, they hold no charge anymore so we'll be replacing them when we get back to the UK. By default, what we do requires LOTS of power so we'll be looking at upgrading the batteries this time for sure. For now though, we have to run the engine a while every day or just charge everything up when we're driving. Idling the engine has been pretty detrimental to the engine most likely and as she's getting older and older it's certainly not doing it any favours idling for so long
I have gone out to the edge of arid lands in a 10 year old 2WD van so get the risk involved on this adventure. So many small things could stop you and, without cell…. My own adventures have all been in the Southwest of the States, where there are more options and people, though similarly full of beautiful empty. It strikes me that these landscapes may be more exotic to people who are from Europe, because they are not as common as they are in the US in the west. You have to drive through a moat of desert lands to drive from California anywhere, except to the Pacific Northwest.
@FromRustToRoadtrip

We do envy the amount of freedom and open space you have in the U.S.! Deserts and badlands are a total novelty to us, so they’re extra exciting when we get to visit one! We’d love to visit the States one day and roadtrip through Utah, Washington and wherever the Hot springs National park is 😍

I would say you have a leak on your fuel delivery system and the fuel runs back to tank when left standing for a few hours. It happened on my LDV and it was the pipe as it comes out the tank.
@FromRustToRoadtrip
Жыл бұрын
We did actually have that problem back in Turkey and they remade all the fuel lines and put new elbow pieces on too. We later found out that this issue was the timing had slipped quite a lot. It's running much smoother now, apart from a suspected failing turbo 😅

WOW! You guys are next level intrepid explorers! I can't believe the vastness of Vashlovani national park. So glad you were there to get high quality drone footage of it! My mind is officially blown. I thought I knew Georgia but this is something else. One question though... what is a badland?!
@FromRustToRoadtrip
Жыл бұрын
Aaw thanks so much Holly! 😄 That makes us really happy to hear. Crazy how Georgia can have mountains over 4,000m high and then this little-known desert area in the east, such a vast country of contrasts. And a badland is a particular type of soft clay rock that’s been eroded into canyons and rock formations by wind and rain, commonly associated with deserts I think. It also just sounds really cool 😁
@cornishhh
Жыл бұрын
The most "Famous" badlands are in the Dakotas in the USA. I believe the term was used because they were very difficult to travel across and they were very infertile.
