We didn't expect to find tree roots 10m away from tree while digging out ready for Concrete Slab

Hey Guys,
Welcome back to our channel!
This was the hardest part of our bungalow renovation journey, we decided to dig the floors out during Christmas break. It was back breaking work but we got there in the end. Still can't believe we dug this out by hand. Our datum level meant that we needed to go down 535mm. We hired a wacker plate to wack down all the recycled hardcore underneath. We will have a layer of blinding sand ontop of the hardcore, then a damp proof membrane sheet, followed by 120mm of concrete poured on with re bar in-between to hold the slab together.
What our channel is about:
We bought this semi-detached bungalow in August 2022 and given ourselves 3years to flip the property and sell on. We have a target budget of £70,000! Natasha is the editor and video maker, while Rhys is the builder (a carpenter by trade). We plan on doing 95% of the work ourselves to keep costs down.
This channel is for documenting our experiences - Good or Bad. This is our first time doing anything like this with full times jobs! Can we stick within our budget? Will the building inspector pass each stage? and the biggest question...will we still be married at the end of the project? Subscribe to find out...

Hi all Trees are definitely natures miners , and it could be said that in looking for moisture they can help to keep things dry . But in the process sadly they can do a tremendous amount of damage , Eucalyptus being a prime example and also poplar trees can be a major problem . But in your case we can safely say the beast has been tamed . I suppose you had no option but to use a barrow to shift all the rubbish bless you , but looking on the bright side you will be as fit as a butchers dog so not all bad . 😂. Kind regards 👍

Fun story, the previous owner planted the tree from a £1 plant in a pot and it grew over 30 years into a tremendous nuisance, BT had been out several times over the years to cut it back away from the telephone pole as the winter months work blow the tree and snap phone lines! You are right they do help dry the ground out, but hopefully with damp proof membrane and proper drainage externally we can keep the inside nice and dry 🤞

More back breaking work - well done. What sort of insulation are you putting under the floor? Our kitchen and bathroom have old concrete floors and I don't think they used any insulation and they are freezing! Skytec Argon gloves are great for warmth and the backs allow moisture evaporation.

Definitely back breaking work! The make up of the floor is: 150mm hardcore 150mm concrete 150mm PIR insulation Underfloor heating pipes clipped to the insulation Topped off with 65mm liquid screed Quite expensive just for a floor 😂
