Terraria took the fundamentals of Minecraft and evolved and added to the concept in the best way. It really is what I wish Minecraft was.

@@lloydaran Somewhat. Both games were released the same year (albeit Minecraft Alpha and Beta were available two years prior), so they are unique in that sense (plus one is 3d vs one that is 2d). Not to mention Terraria has a much more trackable progression and is more boss fight oriented than Minecraft - which is more in tune with a sandbox style of play. There is also the fact that the Terraria and Minecraft devs were inspired by each other - meaning that both could be considered the origins of the fundamentals. Finally, I do wish Minecraft was more like Terraria, especially the base game version. Luckily though, there are Minecraft mods that allow the game to become similar to base game Terraria.

The added mario scream in sephiroths trailer was god tier

The Byleth reveal trailer kinda canceled itself out by having the opening logo animation hot-glued on what felt like was just going to be the "in-game slow-burn towards surprise" style. Like Pyra/Mythra's trailer would be infinitely more flaccid if they tacked that on at the beginning and spoiled that it was Smash.

Yea I don't think that would have saved the Byleth trailer, Pyra trailer is saved by no smash logo but more importantly, it uses no original Xenoblade 2 footage, it's all original with an original arc that would make you assume it's a Xenoblade 2 trailer for a sequel or DLC then it's revealed that it's a Smash trailer afterwards. Byleth literally just rips a 90 second cutscene from the middle of 3 Houses so it couldnt be anything BUT a Smash trailer even with no Smash logo.

Trust me nothing could have saved that trailer I love 3 houses but that trailer was atrocious. All they did was show an in game cutscene and then added the smash part on top of it. I could come up with a better trailer idea than that in an hour than a whole group of people did in the amount of time they were given

I think it's more that his game knowledge is specifically ONLY Smash. WaDi's the kinda guy who saw Mewtwo in the Detective Pikachu movie and said "oh yeah I know him from Smash" and every other pokémon in the film that didn't appear in Smash he had literally 0 knowledge of.

I think the Pyra and Mythra trailer was great for the audience it was targeting. It hid itself as a smash trailer and had the atmosphere of XC2 and its normal marketing and advertisements. Plenty of fans were both convinced there would be no XC2 rep and that this was some kind of dlc announcement. Once the reveal happens, the trailer picks up with excellent combat animation and keeps things at a fast energetic pace. It wasn't a trailer for everyone, but XC2 isn't a game for everyone. Some people say it should have just been action throughout to appeal to non XC2 fans more, but I really don't think that's a good approach. XC2 isn't a heavy action game, it's intended to be an atmospheric and story driven series and that's how its marketed. It also wears its anime tropes on its sleeve, so people who were going to hate XC2 and being super anime weren't going to be converted by the trailer being over faster. For the audience it was intended to appeal to, the XC2 trailer did what it needed to. And I think once the reveal happened, it's pacing was quite good for the people who don't have attachment to the game. I'd say it's a better structured trailer than, like, Kazuya's, who's trailer really kind of has a weird lull after the reveal with a pretty dry low energy move showcase and really bad music selection.

Yep. There was no point trying to appeal to people who don't want them because they're gonna be upset no matter what. So might as well appeal to the fans who wanted them. That was something Byleth's trailer failed to do, which is why it was bad. Not even Fire Emblem fans were excited for it.

@@ShallBePurified Byleth's trailer was kind of a failure in all directions. Even for trying to recreate that one cutscene, it needed a way to pick up the energy once the reveal happened. Instead it didn't and the trailer pacing ends up being super bizzare and anticlimactic. It's really the only one I think was really bad on a technical level.

I can honestly understand where you're coming from, but, you kinda want to make your smash trailer for everyone, some of the reasons why I dislike that trailer are stuff like the characters yelling out the name of their attacks like if it was Pokémon, if I'm not familiar with the source material it makes it feel weird, also, Rex should've been out of the trailer as soon as the character was revealed, he's just reacting to stuff that Xenoblade fans and himself already know but he also says "wow, you can even use that?" when Mythra shows forsight, or when he says that Pyra "powered up her smash attack with fire", that's probably the single dumbest thing he could've said, literally no one is speaking back at him, which is exactly why Mythra talking to Pyra in her moment of need works. Other than that my only real complaint is the stage showcase, they only go like, look, characters from the same game you came from pay attention to them and don't ask what's cool, different or special about this stage (to be fair the only feature of the stage is gramps turning around his head which would be hard to demonstrate on an actual trailer).

As a big xenoblade fan, this trailer was perfect for me. I would have been cool with more dlc but this was my dream since the game came out about 4 years ago. As soon as I heard her say because... and pull up the smash invitation I had a freak out. So that was everything I could have asked for. 😅

12:26 the new final smash is just based on whether you’re playing with the advent children alts for cloud

Sephiroth hands down, the undisputed number 1 character trailer. 20/10 Edit: I should also mention that I absolutely lost my shit at Sora.

Yep, I still rewatch the Sephiroth one from time to time as well! Yeahh for me too, the Belmonts, Banjo, Kazuya, Sephiroth and Sora were definitely the ones that made me pop off the most. - I didn't know much about Persona when Joker got announced, but hot damn that reveal at the Game Awards was definitely *amazing!* Even got me interested in the franchise itself!

I’m with Esam kinda. Minecraft and Terraria are games with similar mechanics in mining and building, but other than that they have completely different focuses

Honestly thank god for ESAM in these videos cause he's the perfect counterbalance to Marss and (occasionally) WaDi's constant negativity.

15:15 because Smash is all about referencing and honoring the source material. Foresight is in the source material. They had to adapt it somehow and it fits perfectly to adapt a Blade Art as a passive fighter ability.

I love Byleth as a fighter, and Three Houses as a game, but the trailer is just so odd lol If they simply just didn’t drop the Smash logo prior to the announcement, that alone would’ve made a difference in its reception, because at least watching the presentation live the first time, you would just be like “isn’t this just a mid game scene?” And the slow burn up to the reveal would be *slightly* more acceptable. The turning into a girl with like 20 seconds more of dialogue is also weird lol.

@@Diamond_Aura I dont know if you're aware of this but the part where byleth goes from a man to a woman was because of the japanese trailer. When they're about to switch to the female version Sothis looks at Male byleth and says "AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A MAN?!" Then the switch happens. That's the reason for the switch but it's still odd regardless. Doesnt make the trailer anymore trash though cause all they did was put in a shot from before the timeskip and then do the stupid reveal. It was just pure laziness

@@fel524 persona had the original snake vibes going for it, proving anyone could get in, not just Nintendo or Nintendo related characters, and the trailer was nice, especially the way it was presented and implemented it happening at the game awards within itself Altough it's stuck in the same hell as Terry for lacking gameplay and being reuploaded again with the best gameplay segment ever as the phantom thieves are actually reacting to it, and yet it had lost all of its magic at that point Sephirot accounted to just as much, but more consistently, quickly, and for anyone I had no idea who Sephirot was and was still on the edge of my seat for the whole trailer

@@diamondmemer9754 I honestly thought it was good but never even played or knew about FF7 aside from Cloud and Persona (SMT specifically) being one of my favorite franchises bumped it up. I think there's a certain amount of magic within Joker's reveal at Game Awards since nobody anticipated it. When they finally revealed the moveset, he was stylish and cool just like in the game.

Does WaDi only watch each character trailer once and then never watch them again? How does he forget about every trailer?

And yet Sephiroth (king of Edgy anime trope villains) and Joker (literal anime trailer) are their highest tier. Honestly outside of Xenoblade fans the trailer isn't even (without bias) hype for non-fans simply because it's literally well known and openly talked about that people dislike Xeno2's dialogue, especially Rex. Which happens to fill the trailer. There's none of the hype filled Action because trope filled dialogue (generic anime reaction from Rex included) takes up most of the trailer, even during its cool Mythra reveal. Just like Byleths which they also dislike. At best it was hype as a fakeout sequel trailer but honestly it's completely understandable that it's not as hype for them because it basically comes off more like a cutscene than a reveal.

@@Sylvastier I think your analyses is wrong. The trailer itself post reveal was plenty hype and other people without any particular XC2 bias have been able to understand that. The speed and the animated combat segments once the reveal happens are just as energetic as other popular trailers. In no way is it comparable to Byleth's disaster.

@@TheEmperorGulcasa half the trailer is just rex wandering around talking to himself while walking around his games area's, the action sequence is shorter and filled with dialogue unlike the others, I mean yeah it's no Byleth which literally just ripped a spoiler cutscene from their own game and then made fun of fans who thought there were too many Swords, but it's definitely the only comparible trailer to theirs in terms of being less of an big smash announcement, being a swordie from a controversial series, and more of a teasing trailer with a switchout reveal. I'm just saying it's perfectly reasonable for them to not enjoy it as much as the others without any form of anime/rpg bias. Especially considering Joker has a extremely similar structure and is one of their most hype regardless.

Just FYI, that appearance for Mythra was specifically made as her redesign for Smash when she was just a spirit and before she became a fighter.

Byleth trailer was indeed lipsynced to the Japanese. Also, the Japanese version had Sothis asking Byleth, "And you still call yourself a man?" before Byleth swapped genders, which was amusing but it's obvious why that line got changed.

Fun fact: Byleth's reveal trailer is actually a cutscene in Three Houses. No joke. Look it up

Sephiroth is not important to kingdom hearts, he outright is just an arena boss in KH1 who fights cloud after going easy on Sora, then he randomly pulls up in KH2, ask Sora where cloud is, and leaves until you run into him late game for another fight. Then Cloud shows up again and they disappear from the plot. Apparently took every other FF character with them since 3.

The only thing important that came out of him in Kingdom Hearts is his one wing which became an iconic form of his and some of his moves that are in smash now

I saw Ganon being thrown into what I thought was death mountain, I thought we were getting Demise, god he wouldve been sick

My thing is the one thing that I'm not sure if they don't take in to context in regards to both Jokers and Kazuya, I'd that when they're revealed you don't know its a Smash trailer, Joker being revealed at the Game Awards and Kazuya being at the beginning of a Direct

Also foresight is a mechanic because it is shown when Mythra is first played with a prediction of the future. Thus it's like witch time because it plays it only works on dodge. In gameplay, it works because it's like you actually used her ability and dodged their attack.

@@xolotltolox7626 The thing is FE is a game about characters. How many Important characters are there in the entire Mario franchise? Waluigi is probably the biggest omission out of all of mario's cast. FE almost always has a new cast of characters every game. The issue with FE in smash is that 3 Reps are from the same game (Chrom, Robin and Lucina) and that typically all the Lord characters use swords so there isn't as much diversity unless they include non lord characters. Three houses is one of the best selling strategy rpgs of all time of course Nintendo is gonna include the "main" protagonist of that game in Smash.

@@highwindhaxorus5240 "Fire emblem is about characters" is a nonsensical argument to justify this much representation And if you want to go by sales figures it is even more absurd that the franchise with 3 mil as it's top seller has as much representation in smash as the two biggest names in gaming, Mario and Pokemon

@@xolotltolox7626 He has a point, tho. Ok, Nintendo wants his IP to be represented, right? Well, Mario represents Mario franchise, since he is the main character of all main games, and the secondary characters represent all the games. Same as TLOZ, the characters are reincarnation of the same character (Link and Zelda) or literally the same character (Ganondorf). But Fire Emblem? Until Ike in Brawl Smash had no representative for western fan, since Marth would have been playable only with the remake in 2012. Even then, you can't represent 3H with a Binding Blade character and vice versa. The only thing I'm actually ok is that there are too much Awakening characters, you can just stick with Robin(since Lucina representation in Smash triggers me, i hate it)

The problem with Byleth's trailer is that they literally reused cutscenes that happened in Three Houses but modified it to make lines that fit for Smash. A lot of people hated Banjo's trailer because they literally reused K. Rool's for it and Byleth's only made things worse in that regard

Dude, I thought I was the only one! I was hoping he would get in, even though it seemed unlikely because we had just got Kazuya who is also a Bandai Nancy character. The scene of Mario pulling the sword out of the flame was literally ripped out of ToA! And then it was Sora …

@@tarson84 Honestly I can agree to the unlikelihood of it after remembering Kazuya and Lloyd being deconfirmed (Just cause he was extremely popular doesn't mean there wasn't hope for another representative. Like Heihachi and Kazuya), but the trailer really set itself up to be just like the 1st opening for ToA (Didn't reach the 2nd op yet), Mario and Alphen look into the light, reach their hand out, and brings out fire sword. I just wish there was at least a little more indication on who it was beforehand instead of just "Here, Keyblade", doesn't mean I dislike Sora cause I do like Kingdom Hearts but still there were more others I wanted
