We Built the Airstream of the Future
We're trying to buildout a 1971 Airstream with higher quality products and better technology than current ones on the market today. With a budget of just $35,000, this should be interesting :)

OK, hear me out on this. The finishing touch for the exterior of the Airstream......an old-style NASA decal. During the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo days, astronauts were transported to the Launch Pad in an Airstream RV.

Really cool, tuck your hoodie strings in when buffing and grinding 😅

What next generation? if they have a next generation they would be too busy to do these projects
I love car, boat, engine refurb/rebuild KZread content, and I will generally watch two or three ‘episodes’ before subscribing. I like what you do (the airstream is something different) and the style of video presentation, the hours spent setting up shots, cutting and editing are appreciated. I am so pleased the ‘algorithm’ found your channel for me, I have liked and subscribed, looking forward to the next episode.
This is really a fun project ! I literally grew up in an airstream trailer. Back in the ‘60’s and 70’s my parents were teachers in Washington State and we spent many weekends, summers and holidays traveling the US and Canada. I was often the only kid on those long big airstream caravans and traversed the Rocky Mountains with a hundred “grandpas and grandmas” 😂. Someone had a big commercial grill in the their truck and set it up every morning to cook flap jacks, eggs and sausage for everyone. Fun times ! I miss that old land yacht. I hope it brings much joy to your lives and you create as many good memories as I had ! OMG I sound like I’m in a rocking chair 🤣. I want to rebuild one too !!

Stories like this make us so happy to hear🥰 thank you for taking the time to share!! 💛
I owned a 1967 Cessna 150 for about 10 years. The build of your trailer is very similar to general aviation aircraft. They too are constructed with aluminum and lots and lots of rivets. These aircraft air-frames last forever. Corrosion can be an issue but overall the structures hold up. MDF bolted to a steel frame ( typical of other trailer builds) is going to have a limit to its life. Aluminum will last much longer. Great build and fun to watch. Thank you.
The single most interesting video I’ve seen in a long time. I was a nomad cuz of poverty as a kid from time to time and I have no desire to revisit the lifestyle but the videos you guys make for some reason they are addicting lol. Nice work you two!
I'm impressed with you GUYS!!! yOU INSPIRE ME! I don't have an Airstream, but What I have, its already 30+yrs old. It was 4"X8" tilt type trailer I got for free, it needed a lot of work.. I Move the Axle back, re-deck it. Framed it & with side panels going up about the 2/3 the way up. Then put a Canvas roof came down the sides about 1/3 down, it was like a Conestoga. Became my Travel trailer when I did Retail shows. Now, I'm repurposing it once again, making a mini camper out of it. I'm about 1/2 way there. The roof is aluminum, a window on either side. looking good.
I am SO loving this build and can't wait for the next episode. Sending good vibes to you both! Love love.

Hello 🎉, Thanks for sharing your story!!! I am 63 years old and a retired. I was waiting to really know all about the Airstream, so I can restore my own, but now what I have seen 😮 I will just build my 8.5 x 20 long car hauler trailer out, and keep my weight down as much as possible. Have a super blessed life 🙏
Yessss. So excited to see another airstream build video!
INCREDIBLE! Not only the work you both do but also the entertainment and instruction in your videos. Great job!

Very impressed with the editing, and the humor. Best of luck. Thanks for the vid
Our first RV is a 17' Casita (fiberglass) 2019, it costs more but like Airstream it should last way more than 15 yrs. It is good for weekend trips and even a week trip. Our last trip to Big Bend for the New Year we camped with an Airstream group (about 6 of them). I thought they were great, even a couple "restores" and watching these videos is like visual relive from their stores. Anyway wife retires in a couple years and might try this project myself😀.
You are both so talented and hard working. I am sure the reason you got this trailer gutted is that somebody else realized how over their head they were on trying to restore one of these. I give you both credit for sticking with it. I realized years ago with my 1973 Argosy (Airstream) that with limited time available; I would have to complete my restoration in stages- having each stage completed and ready for camping the next year. I knew my limitations. I would have given up- doing it like you are😁
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that you guys addressed the backward lug nuts!! I JUST found your last video and commented. Saw that this video was available and had to watch. Keep up the great work.
That's cute 😂 you still are keeping the mystery of pooping together a thing.

What a great video and you two are such great people! Such enthusiasm and drive through the lows to create something quite special. But you also hit the nail on the head - in the face of cheap, throwaway things these days and low prices we expect - the Airstreams are still of the ‘you get what you pay for’ and once people get their heads around that concept it makes perfect sense.
Fantastic journey and genius refurb (1% inspiration plus 99% perspiration). Thanks so much for sharing!
I’ve been waiting for this episode like I waited for Guardian’s Of the Galaxy Volume 3! You both are so lovable and fun/funny 😂 I watched it once then again with my wife. Cant wait for part 3 😂😂😂 thank you Sssoooo much!

1/4 in. So glad to see the spray foam. A clear winner for me in terms of structural benefit, insulating value and probably soundproofing as well.
My RV is 20 years old and still going strong! Good work there..
After 9 years of full time Airstream living, I will say nothing comes close to the quality, style and the comfort of these timeless beauties! Family members have alway ready started fighting over who inherits the Airstream, and I’m in my 60’s and healthy?!!

now that you've removed the finish and polished it to a mirror shine, you will need to repolish about every year to prevent oxidization. yup, that's why they put that finish on at the factory
Interesting, yours content! 👍 We don't have a culture of vacationing in trailers, so it's really interesting, especially since you do everything yourself! 😎 Thanks 👍
1:04 great little side narrative there. wasn't expecting that. love that you're still engaging me with the voice over.
Kels, the dirt just shows you put in the effort to get the results. It's good dirt.
"You just said I weigh 300" was a boss level response. lmao
wow you guys finally blew up & are internet famous now!
Obviously, you two are super talented. Not least, in that you can work together without fighting. But your technical skills make the feasible. You have at least $15,000 in labor. Added to your renovation budget, you are $50,000 into this. I love that you are doing it, but now way would I ever consider this.

That's also assuming they aren't pulling the wool over peoples eyes. A lot of DIY vids like this hide the fact that other people help when the camera isn't on.
I love this because the airstream has always been my favorite camper.

Fantastic video and work! Thanks to your video if I ever get a camper it will be a fiberglass one, as there is no way I would go through this;-)

Lovin' you two!! Jay, "You tryin' to say I weigh 600 pounds?" Kels, "What?!? You just said I weigh 300" Jay, "...what?" Hahaha!!!
Wow! Much praise is due. Thank you for your Airstream videos. I will certainly stay away from such a project.
Just stumbled upon your project as things are wont to do on KZread. Production value is awesome and I am riveted and can’t wait for the next in the series.
It was neat to see you both finish this airstream. You got a new sub. My hubby and I are full time living off grid in the dessert in a class C. Starting to build an off grid home. It's been challenging and interesting for us old farts but we are having fun.
hey im new to this channel just wanted to say i really enjoy your storry telling/voice over/editing/craftsmanship pretty much everything to be honest!!!! and fun fact litteraly juste before jay said "Jesus Christ" i was saying it while watching it almost scared me 🤣

Lol @ the clearly obvious wasp nest and the “RIP the bees” comment, love you guys!
Looks great sheet alloy needs patience I have been building high end alloy boats for 15 years , beautiful materials Now learn to build a car 1000 hours done 2000 hours left Very hard work but very rewarding
I don‘t know the street laws in USA, but in europe is it not allowed to have a mirror finish at any car. Tank Trucks made from stainless steel have round circles at the surface of the tank to brake the mirror finish. It not allowed because you can distract other drivers with your vehicle. When the sun is pointing at your vehicle it reflects the light everywhere.

It's beautiful!. Great video and editing. You will have something special when it's done
Absolutely amazing job, both the airstream and the video!
We did a lot of the same things what we did do that you did do is we got bamboo flooring totally worth it batteries we went with a LTO battery chemistry 20,000 cycles. Totally worth it really safe and they don’t catch fire like prismatic war lithium ion or a lithium cobalt, the most they’ll ever do is get a little warm in eject seem
Another awesome day of building!!
Can't wait for more! Great job!
Well done 🙂

Awesome! Great way to bond as a couple too !
Absolutely love the entire approach you have taken!
So fun to see the process (and not have to do any of the work), great job!
Restoration is so much more difficult than new construction. It’s a never ending game if scavenging the good and tossing the bad and buying the new.
Kels! I got turned on to your channel through Chuck Cassady and I’ve been binging your vids tonight. I am so glad to have come across this video because I’ve been scouring high and low for a tutorial on reusing old RV windows and that was exactly what I needed to see! Did you have any regrets in the process you used for the frames? Looks like the wire wheel on the drill worked pretty good. I’m curious if you’d do anything different! Thanks for your time and y’all’s awesome content. My wife and I are a couple weeks from our one year anniversary and are mid way through our full bus build 😍
Great job!
Using the orbital tool with your hoodie strings dangling is crazy. Good way to end up in the ER. 🤦♂️
just discovered you 😎 what a beautiful channel ♥️
Very well produced vid, thanks.
Use a cup wheel for the polish process. You need more contact with the surface.
Your dedication is insane,whoa😁
great work. I love how it is turning out
Wow. You guys have done amazing job ❤
Admirable work and video! Thanks!
@Kels and Jay I realize you both spent a ton of money not only to buy the airstream but to fix it up as well, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel/a finish line you’ll cross and hopefully it will all pay off in the end.
This is super dope guy's 🔥
