exactly, first practice on a simulator to avoid crashing into people and property, and to save your money. Also its actually important to learn safety precautions such as testing the kwad without props on, batter safety, and way more. i personally did a good job of learning everything before i even flew, i had experience will a dji like drone, mini toy drones. I learned everything after that by myself, from fixing to learning how different props work/ motors feel, within each mistake i gain that much more knowledge on what to do and what not to do. i was a noob at flying and now, not to brag but i consider myself an expert at flying, all i do is perfect my flying skills, gaining as juicy and smooth of a drone and flight as i can. unfortunately i haven't flow as much as i would like but im hoping to this year. only took me a year to fly pretty damn well, you need that drive to keep flying and improving. I HIGHLY recommend simulators, you can learn to fly and do tricks on there before you even fly in real life. my friend only flew Acro like 10 times on liftoff simualtor and flew great in real life.

I started a few years ago and I really enjoyed watching this and remembering the experience. Thank you for sharing. My advice to beginners. 1: Buy a radio and fly on a sim for 10 hours or something. 2: Watch 50 hours of youtube vids on building and flying. 3: find peeps in your area. (Go to a drone race) 4: Buy a used or new pre-built qwad and then build (or rebuild) 20 more.
I've been using the Velocidrone simulator with the Dx9 to practice flying, its great!
"I consider myself to be a pretty decent drone pilot". Bruh, flying DJI drones and/or drones in level requires almost no flying experience and are very forgiving. I'm glad you're getting into FPV and flying in acro, that's when the skills are gonna come in baby! Keep it up.

Watched this then took myself out to go fly my quad 😂 it’s definitely a skill that needs to be built up. One part is building the drone, the second part is getting skilled with flying. Thanks for posting this. I've been flying FPV for 10 years now. I've had lots of DJI fans tell me how great they are but none of them have ever tried to fly one one my aircraft! FPV is not the same as flying a DJI drone:- You have to control it's height, speed and direction (you know that now ;-)). You need to learn to hover LOS before trying to fly it FPV. Also fly it in Horizon mode. (You were clearly trying it in Acro mode so self-leveling was disabled). Fly over grass, so that the crashes don't break the quad or damage the motors. Good luck and don't hurt yourself!
Have been in the hobby for two years and love it!
More accurate title would've been "I thought I was a great pilot because I can fly a DJI quad (which does everything for me) so got a friend to build a normal FPV quad and found out that I can't fly at all". But yes, your title is more catchy...

In no way am I trying to be mean but the fact that you guys have zero clue what you are doing and showing these already 80K viewers that these things are essentially “bombs” 🤷♂️ really gives the hobby a little bit of a bad name. Thats why you should start on the simulator it’s an incredible place to start and practice your skills and learn the basic controls and functions of these things. Also practice hovering it LOS (line of sight) after you’ve practiced in the simulator and get your LOS down before moving to FPV. TRUST ME you’ll thank me later. Alright well that’s my rant but please iron out these things and practice on the sim before launching that quad again. These are not toys, these are flying copters with 4 spinning propellers that could chop your hand clean off. I don’t mean to intimidate anyone as well just letting you know the risks. Happy flying guys and stay safe!

SmiK i just took a look at his channels snd holyyyy that’s sketch. He has horrible throttle management and legit is flying it at his friends without much experience. To top it off his fpv video was sooo bad. It was jello as heck.
This is fun to watch. Brings me back to my early days in the hobby.
Awesome ! I’ve been flying fpv for years but it’s so neat seeing you guys document the first steps in learning to build and fly these things . Keep it up . Super fun once u get it figured out !
Happy to see the hobby slowly creeping into the mainstream.
Great vid, even better ending! Great cliffhanger 😉👍🏽
Way to leave it on a cliffhanger lol Great job, Matt!
That was a joy to watch. I’m about 3 months into FPV having also considered myself a pretty good pilot. Gone through the same things, had all the same thoughts. It was fun to go through it all again with ya!
If Matti starts making content with an FPV, his channel will explode. Expect 5 more episodes and tons of fun.
