    Right? Feels like a pair of stabilizer bars welded to the sides, slightly offset from the road height, with maybe some springloaded casters or something would help.

    I ran a soil company for many years including screening and anything to do with soil, inert and contaminated etc. My advice is pump your profits into a good 2 way trommel to start with. Something with a hopper and a feed in and feed out belt. Yes they are more complex but they can process soil so much faster. There will be some R&M but your returns will be significantly higher. If you can afford something with an interchangeable drum thats even better. 2-3 inch and a 1 inch drum will do most jobs. Once you have that up and running then a 3 way is your next step. Big bucks though. Bigger not always better though. Some of the smaller self propelled units are pretty damn good these days. As for your screeners you have now, keep a good stock of mesh on hand and keep the engines in good order and you should be ok. Just keep that welder warmed up!! Best of luck.

    At a glance, it seems that it wouldn't take much to make that axle a proper width for a trailer. As it is now, it doesn't really seem like it was designed for road use.

    It can be legally towed on the road all day just like any heavy construction trailers you have to be slow and careful and you won’t have any problems. It’s pretty obvious whoever was pulling the screener wasn’t being careful and took the turn too fast.

    While you are driving, it probably started to experience harmonic vibration and the shaking got progressively stronger. It's akin to a 4WD with a failing dampener shock and every time you would hit a bump the front end would shake and get more violent until you hit the brakes and slowed down a bit. Only for it to happen on the next bump.

    Perhaps your guy "who moves heavy machinery every day" just isn't as good at it as you seem to think he is... A narrow top heavy trailer is basically designed to flip and should be taken into account when making a turn. Its carelessness plain and simple.

  • @Segphalt

    @Segphalt

    Also the idea that nothing can go wrong with a machine that just vibrates is absolutely laughable. Vibration causes damage and maintenance more than basically any other kind of wear because it affects the whole machine. Screws back out, things crack etc. When you also have people turning them over 2x a year who even knows... It's a good business model because you can charge 3-5% of the cost of the machine to rent it for a single day. So when one does break it has often paid for itself several times over.

    Be careful welding hooks and D rings to things you are renting out. When they fail they can kill people or do some serious damage. They look to be ok to me but just keep that in mind, construction crews and machines will put a lot of stress on them hooks and D rings. Maybe put a disclaimer sticker or capacity sticker on it to protect yourself. I’m a union ironworker and a welder by trade and just wanted to say I’ve seen some crazy failures, you really don’t want a weld failing on any of those D rings or hooks ! Good luck with the business!

It would be wise to put DANGER/Risk of flipping labels on a couple of spots alerting inexperienced customers about the serious risk of it flipping. If someone was seriously hurt or worse lawyers will point at the guy who was aware of the risk but did not alert customers. Rob.

    Brackets that you bolt together in both directions on all 4 corners to make the top absolutely unmovable is the way to go, especially if 3rd parties are going to move it around. Sure, it will take an extra 15 minutes to set up or stabilize before hitting the road, but that top part being rock solid is the only way it's going to be safe on the road. I'm 54 years old, if that was me, I know to drive 200% more careful, half the speed and just get it there safely but you're not going to get that level of caution out of a 20something or hired hand who is not directly on the hook for any damage. Think about it- some kind of bolted brace for each of the 4 corners, you can bolt and unbolt with a Dewalt imact on a battery.👍

    All the weight at the top but also very biased ot one side. Thats bad but the wheels being right at the back really don't help because as soon as it gets one wheel off the floor all the weight is loading up on the hitch. Then the rear of the truck dips and allows the weight to transfer even more. Thats why its catching drivers out - it seems fine until there's no way to catch it. Really it needs ballast weights low down for transport. That or a wider axle. Or another axle in the middle. Or all of the above. I'm also not sure its meant to be road towed. If there's no plate its unlikely to be designed for road towing because you need weight (and depending on vehicle balance) info legally in a lot of places so any pro company (and it looks like its pro made) is going to plate it if its intended to be road towed. The pintle is also a bit of a giveaway that its more for use on farms or on site because for road pulling they would typically use a ball unless it was built for the military - but if it was they would certainly have it plated.
