Having pretty much restored one, you guys are in for a lot of fun.. pain. You’ll be surprised the positions you will get into! Everything is awkward. All the engine work can be done while it’s in there, but if there’s a fair bit, just remove it, it will be so much easier!! You’ll realise that if you change the water pump. If you have the engine out, check the fuel tanks, as that’s the worst job, fact. This Esprit could keep the channel going for years. Join the FB Esprit groups for knowledge and help. Don’t ruin it. Look forward to watching.. good luck!

First a correction then a little story: 1: The DeLorean was based on the Esprit, not the way round you said it. 2: I went to a work experience placement from school when I was 13 and the engineering place I went to' s owner had a black '88 version of that car. Any time he had to go and look at job at a customer's premises we went in it. They are ridiculously rapid. Sadly the owner passed away a few years later and the car has stood in the corner of his old workshop ever since. It's still immaculate as his son cleans and keeps it under covers but it would need a full mechanical going over to run again. It turns over but all the rubber parts have perished from sitting for 26 years. I have first refusal if he ever does sell it or first passenger ride if he restores it though! Oh and to time the engine you take it out and do it out of the car, the rest is done via the ECU.

You bet. Not just the car, but the company, too. Colin Chapman died before he could be indicted for conspiring to embezzle DeLorean money (provided by the British taxpayer) through a Panamanian bank account. DeLorean's CFO was jailed, and the judge said that he'd have given Chapman ten years if he hadn't croaked beforehand.

The Esprit was in production for a long time. Not a perfect but car with a lot of character and great value for money. Does not work for taller guys however. It's a much better option than a supercar replica for probably less money.. Lotus has great racing history and provenance.
