Diana is an absolute marvel. Steve is a very fortunate man. Cannot believe how much Diana got done in that house in 6 months. You can quite see why she would be a brilliant Managing Director of a big company. Just jaw-dropping how well she got the place sorted. Kudos, Diana. Whatever you are doing now, I hope you are really enjoying it.

Really beautiful house but the smoke in the curtains and all the textiles. Yikes.
The ‘flow’ of 1-4+ guests a night does not seem overwhelming and the place looks incredibly comfy, food looks superb. I’d go there!!
Hats off to them for managing to maintain the place for 10 years. Hope, they made their money back!

Sadly, the couple decided to close their B&B 2021- sounds like because of Covid. They did end up with 4 rosettes though. Hopefully they can relax and enjoy their home now.
How did they remove the 15 years of cigarette smoke & residue?
@rachaelhall8777
9 ай бұрын
Maybe painting and new carpet and or furniture should remove the smell of smoke in its entirety. Done move outs, remodels. This is the only way; but also very expensive 😄
Diana and Steve genuinely like each other and that’s nice to see.
Defintily hoarders... Such a beautiful old property could be elegant and cozy family house but it looks like a trash dump. This is the result of decades of clutter, these people obviously didn't care to keep their home neat. In order to run a B&B you must have an eye for details and be tidy and clean, what they were thinking of? Some people simply cause they have a big house or spare room think 'ok easy money'... Clearly deep into their hearts consider this house a family home and they are not ready to share it. Amazing to see them adapting to their new role. Well done for the 4 Stars!
No way that would be a 4 star in the USA. I do give them credit for their attempts. It is a beautiful home.

“Slightly” quirky. That was a huge understatement!
Surprised and pleased they got their 4 stars
I like the chairs in the dinning room. They look nice an simple.
I thought this episode gave a really good wake-up call and reality check to those who blithely decide they'll "just get a big old house and start a B&B". Many don't think through all the details involved. Hats off to Steve for climbing outside his comfort zone. I can only cringe to think what my musician husband would do if I not only booted him out of his den/office, but expected him to join in equally with the serving and cleaning! I'd probably end up with a tiny B&B of only one room to let with a tiny breakfast room I could run on my own.
That’s so beautiful and sweet he loves his kids so much. I was surprised to see him with his name tags writing his kids names, adorbs. Made me have a bit of a soft spot for the guy. They’re both seemingly really sweet. Steve doesn’t understand women like Ruth which is interesting. They don’t realize they’re a bit misogynistic in being defensive. Kinda gotta look at her like your own boss. Not always going to like them or feel like they’re doing too much but it’s because they care about the business and investing in your growth.

There's alot of collective myths surrounding the music business. Being successful doesn't necessarily mean you're very well off. It means you've mamaged well in your field and have a good reputation and even fame to some degree, at least within the business. It's not what people think most of the time.

Naming the rooms “ Alex’s room,” etc is a pretty bad idea. I don’t want to stay in Marieles room; I want to stay in my own :))
Ruth shouldn’t have sent hoarders to Millers. That itself looked like it was bordering on hoarding.
This was a delightful episode. Two really great people with not an ounce of pretension about them. I had a feeling Steve was going to turn out to be a diamond in the rough. * Miller’s Residence is my kind of place! I’d love the feeling of being nestled in in that stupendous seating room.
Those folks did not pick up after themselves as evidenced by all the unorganized stuff in all the rooms shown.
The issue is that they are doing all the maintenance themselves. Hire cleaners and caterers to attend to manage all of these tasks.
@mangoyacho

Hiring helpers could eat into their profit.
That antique dealer b/b was too much stuff. Suffocating, think of the dusting and upkeep. More probably coming in.
The Millers place is horrendous. I'm really in to layer upon layer of treasures and antiques and artefacts but that communal area looked like a dirty, dusty, greasy chaos.
Miller's - I'd rather toss everything than have to DUST that place! Lol

Where were their children? Couldn’t they have come (with their partners if possible) and help their parents with the moving off clutter, tidying up and painting? Damn!
The house must reek of stale smoke. She is still smoking in it. A smoker can’t ever understand how a nonsmoker is repulsed by that smell. Hopefully a deep cleaning helps.
It's a wonderful house.
Please, please tone down the volume of the horrible background music during the introduction! Why would you want to deafen your viewers and muffle Hugh Bonneville’s marvellous voice!?
Wow what a transformation, they were amazing to step up and setup the lovely B&B 👍🏿 Another great show
Millers is just too much clutter. Too much stuff!!
The B&B place felt suffocating. I've been in similar places and it feels like everything is going to come crashing down on one's head. We have different needs and views on how we want it, so I think many people find it warm and exciting. But I have to have air and be able to see that it is clean.
Before people get into any kind of business they should work in another business that it the same they have in mind, to acquired experience and learn
33:59 That is a beautiful room in so many ways. The architecture is a gift. I was screaming though about that lovely large rug that is so light in colour...going to get messed up very quickly.
I wanted to see the rest of that fabulous house!
I'm married to a Steve. Ruth has her hands full.
Wow! The absolute best I’ve seen yet of these episodes! I’m so amazed at all they did! Very cool! Love this place & love this couple, & the chairs too!
I am 10 mins in and so happy to see that their office looks like mine, lol! I heard that they closed during Covid, sadly. I am going to guess that they didn't keep up on paperwork and other ideas for marketing or things to keep their business alive during Covid.

I can't understand why a couple of high flying record execs don't seem to have any money? Arista was a massive label!
People want space she says but you cannot open the wardrobe because there’s a table stuck in front of it. I love clutter but Miller’s is giving me nightmares.
All these types of Guest Houses or B&Bs are closing in England because the older people are dying off and the young people now would rather go abroad for the same cost. Taking easyJet or Ryanair to Spain, Portugal or even Dubai is a lot more fun than spending a weekend in one of these Guest Houses out of nowhere.
It's a lovely house, now we can see its character, loved the dining room, colours and awesome windows.

"You won't try to hide my Charles and Di kneeling stool, will you?" ~ Steve hahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha
I travelled alot in England and Scotland and like mixing fine hotels with local B&B's with character. Places with a bit more history than this, but some quite a bit more quirky. It's not for everyone, but if you like travelling for culture, inside stories and tips on points of interest besides the obvious beaten track, and appreciate not being anonymous or surrounded by anonymity it's adds alot especially in rural travels. If you prefer being a tourist seeing things at a more disengaged distance there are plenty of proper hotels with exellent service and restaurants all over the UK. I really had little hope they'd manage and was surprized they did for many years, I'm sure it improved their life in ways they'd not expected. People ask why. Sometimes when children have flown out it's time for a life change and a projectnthat requires working and learning together once again to get out of the rut of depressive holding on yo what once was. If they couldn't afford to keep the house they'd still need to sort through and get rid of most of it and simply moving doesn't necessarily mean changing or making a real effort. There's much more to all this than meets the eye. They learnt alot in the process, regardless of what they are doing today. They really needed all the help!

I wouldn’t stay a minute in the “wacky” place. All I can imagine is the dust and grime on the junk all over the room! Horrible place! There is difference between charm and clutter.
Pathetic joke by the man of the house - Steve. Not funny.
Unwatchable with the music playing can not hear what is being said.
The way one enjoys people one doesn’t like is to pretend you’re watching them on a sit-com. Examples: Lucy, on I LOVE LUCY, ARCHIE BUNKER, or Basil Fawlty. No matter how bad the consequences every time, Lucy never learned not to lie. But long-lasting characters also have a side to them that offset the way they annoy some people. Try to imagine how they got that way or what their spouse sees in them. They can be enjoyed for a half hour or once a week as characters. Guests likewise for a few nights. Objectivity helps one tolerate them while discovering who they are and finding something to love.
