Fun fact about Vikings, some were the first to make steel. They didn't know what they were doing and thought their weapons were possessed by their family, because they cremated their friends and family and threw the coal into the iron to make the blades. So you joke about a Viking circumcision, but I'd rather have their dead touching me than almost anyone else on the planet at the time. 🤣 Emotional stuff though. They thought it was their loved ones protecting them and strengthening their iron. And it literally was. 😭

Eden going from hating the first movie to loving it made me so happy. ^^ (Warning: long nerdy ramble incoming because this film has been one of my biggest hyperfixations since I was 11) I'll admit I have some bias because HTTYD is my favorite film series, and I give it a lot of credit for inspiring me to pursue animation as an actual career path. But, I also understand why Eden didn't like it at first. With the exception of the opening sequence where the dragons are attacking the town, the beginning of the movie is a bit slow. And he does also have a point about it looking kinda ugly. At the time I saw it in theaters I thought it looked really good because it was 2010 and that was the best 3D animation looked back then. But watching it today, even in comparison to the second and third film...yeah it has aged a little. Though that said, the character designs are ugly on purpose. If you've ever read the book series the films are loosely based on, all the character designs in it are kinda ugly too. The whole point is that this is a fictional viking society where everyone prioritizes being scary, surly, and crude rather than friendly, attractive, or smart. They even give themselves gross names like Snotlout and Gobber the Belch in order to scare off dragons/other vikings. This film wouldn't have worked if everyone was good looking. And so that's why the character artists prioritized having fun with the designs instead, using them to convey personality more than attractiveness. It also makes Hiccup and Astrid stand out because they're the only ones who have more "normal" character designs. Though even Hiccup isn't conventionally attractive in the first movie. He's got a little bit of a bowl cut, crooked teeth, and is really skinny. He's also tiny. I think he's even shorter than Astrid (but we stan a short king lol). And once again, that's the point. He's a nerdy teenager whose main character trait is brains over brawn. I actually really like the fact they didn't try to make him super good looking (in the first movie at least) and went for a more dorky but cute angle because it's a lot more fitting for who he is in the first film. Again, I just don't even think the film would have worked if they made him really good looking. And ngl I was actually kind of anxious at first when I saw they'd changed his character design for the second film, because I was afraid he wouldn't be the same character and they'd make him this stereotypical hot protagonist rather than the adorable sassy nerd I'd come to love and relate to so much. Luckily, I was more than happily surprised when that personality totally stayed in tact even as he gained more confidence and had a glow up. I'll also stand by saying that the scenes in the forest and all of the flying scenes from the first movie still look absolutely gorgeous even in 2023. And the soundtrack still absolutely slaps. It's one of the best film soundtracks ever imo, and there's a really good video someone made where they analyzed all of it and talked about why it's so good. And lastly, the friendship between Hiccup and Toothless, and the messages about learning how to accept/stand up for both yourself and others even when your family/society doesn't are just so, so, soooooooooooo well done in this series. Honestly, I feel like this is one of those series that is just impossible to truly hate. I'm not blind to it having some flaws. But even if it's not really someone's cup of tea and the only thing they like about it is Toothless because he reminds them of their pet, I genuinely don't think I have ever met someone who has completely hated the series. So seeing Eden slowly become endeared the same way I did as a kid was really sweet ^^

also the visual difference in the characters makes sense in universe as well.. in movie 1 they were basically competing with the dragons over food source(sheep), and were more gaunt, pale, and almost sickly.. in movie 2 they had a more symbiotic relationship, sharing food, and thus had a healthier glow up

@@SpillingTheMilk Sometimes I notice you guys put out new video, but in the moment, I can't watch it right away because I'm busy. But then I get super anxious, because a lot of times, I'll come back to the channel to watch the new video and the video will be gone, due to copyright or age restriction or whatever YT BS is happening. But this Frozen ordeal has reinforced my YT-related anxiety. Whenever creators upload a new video, I feel pressured to watch it IMMEDIATELY, to CATCH it before it (could) get taken down.
