Just a bit of advice from past experience. Replace that tie wrap holding the J block to the cylinder with a metal one with rubber between the J block and the cylinder. Plastic tie wraps tend to streach over time from heat and stress and you'll loose that rubber spacer possibly getting "hose knocking".
Use to plumb trucks for a custom service/ lube truck company and had a engineer explaining the importance of several areas. Always use black pipe/ steel fittings on hydraulic/ oil systems because galvanized pipe fittings the coatings will flake off and ruin pumps and other systems. Your return filter needs to be installed in the vertical position to maximize it's effectiveness. And finally that shut-off valve handle either needs to be flipped around so open the handle is facing down or zipped tied in the open position. Vibration will cause the handle to shut closing off return flow if you don't. Just some helpful tips to prevent disasters in the future. I have alot of pictures from that period that I used to help train new employees showing exactly how we plumbed the chassis and tanks. Pictures have been known to better explain then one can explain ten different ways! @Dirt Perfect just trying to save you some headaches and $$$ in the future.

smaller tank return hose creates back pressure it should be the same size as pressure side or one size bigger is rule of thumb as well

Shouldn't the filter need to be on the suction side between tank and pump and the quarter turn ball valve between the dump valve and the tank needs rated to full system pressure ? As plumbed the filter could see full system pressure
@bluegrallis
2 жыл бұрын
@@j.b.caldwell7420 There is no pressure on the return side, UNLESS, you start the pump up with the valve closed. NEVER put a filter on the suction side. If it plugs up, you lose your pump. If it plugs up on the return side, it just bypasses the filter as it is a "bypass" filter housing.
@j.b.caldwell7420

@@bluegrallis So with the bed up and both ball valves closed and the dump valved tripped open - the filter body wouldn't see the cylinder pressure ? Maybe valves pn both sides of filter ?
@bluegrallis
2 жыл бұрын
@@j.b.caldwell7420 ANYTIME the return line valve is closed, you can easily blow the filter off the housing. That's why there shouldn't be a ball valve on the return, when you can put a check valve between the tank and the filter. If the suction side is closed, you can't raise the bed. You can shell out the pump though. If you raise the bed, get out of the truck and close both valves, you WILL have a failure by attempting to lower the bed.
I love a rainy day in Derby..... that means shop videos
Squeaky Wheel here; so nice that YT bring up this series with no searching!
Hopefully, MBTS will come by to check your work! 😆 🤣 😂
Great job on location of filter, mounting it horizontal will create less of a mess when changing. Mounting it like that will require more often changes because all sediment will sink to bottom half of filter. I installed many wet lines on trucks over the years. Also galvanized pipe is a no no. And don't use Teflon tape on joints, use a aneorobic pipe sealant instead. In the instructions with your HYD system it should explain that use of tape voids warranty. The tape is just that, if any strands get in the system it wraps around pump gears, spool valves, check valves, etc. Your return hose should be same size if not bigger than your pressure hose, preferably bigger.

You are really lucky to have Mr Millennium working with you- He must be so busy now that pantomime season is here !!
when LT Dan is ready and you work with it and then when you look back on all the work you have done to get to that point you can be very proud of the LT Dan build

A truly entertaining video on a dream project - Lt Dan. Glad the 'plan' paused and found the 'disaster' waiting to happen. Good catch.

Mike it is nice to see most of the work. I’m one of those odd people that likes to hear the discussion on why you are doing what you are doing. I know it would make for much longer videos but on things like Lt. Dan it might be worth it. Thank you for what you do with your videos.

Got to watching some of these videos back and started thinking Lt. Dan would look really cool with a full set of those wide all terrain super single tires on the back.
It’s coming together nicely. Matt is funny. Can’t wait until MBTS is back. I miss his laugh and the way you both kid around. Love the channel
I'm looking forward to its first demo job. No more worries about plugging the gate. One thing is certain- you're going to have one of the coolest and most capable dump trucks in the land.
Good one!!!! Goin in the right direction!!!!
Looking good can't wait to see it done
For $35, you can toss that shut off valve above the filter housing, and put a check valve in it's place. It will always restrict back flow from the tank to the filter, but never restrict flow from the filter to the tank. (If you put it in the right direction anyway) The first time somebody shuts that manual valve off( or it vibrates closed) and forgets to open it before starting the pump, you WILL have all you fluid on the ground below the truck and might lose the pump in the process, if it isn't shut down before the tank is empty. There isn't a spin on filter that will contain that oil if the return to the tank is closed.

I know how that goes on a self propelled hydrostatic crop sprayer, I got interrupted by an emergency call out, went back to it and fired up the machine, forgetting the tap was closed she blew the filter out under the front of the cab like a torpedo and dumped the whole 40 gallons of oil on the floor before it was shut down. By the time that was cleaned up and fixed I didn't earn a cent that day it actually cost me money !

@@geo752 Its one of those things that happens when working in busy service shops dealing with farm equipment when half the country sides busy and 12 hour plus days 7 days a week for 6 weeks at a time. Guys get called away from jobs, It's kinda fun somedays when you've done 15 other things that came in the door interupting you. That's not including the job you started rebuilding 2 weeks ago while waiting for parts and trying to make sure that's 100 % and the guy needs it back last week . There are a lot of Ag mechanics walking around mentally and physically burned out after that kind of work level and hours. It's getting harder to find guys that will work those hours in shops and actually on farms to, they want a life without all that.

Looking good Lt. Dan your humans are doing a great job on you. When you go out into the world and start your career you should bring these humans with you in case you start feeling a little down in the dumps. Great video
All my old wreckers had the Chelsea pto systems and wow, your system is a rocket ship over a simple hydraulic system for a wrecker. Granted mine had to have power up and down as it required that to haul the bed back on as well as push it under the load. Even my little five ton dump trucks with three stage dual cylinder systems were not that many pipes and hoses. I got lost past that actuator or should say might of been the only part I did understand. I just wish mine would of had that option of air or electric instead of cable controls. Thats a plumbers nightmare getting all those tight and pointed in a working direction so my hats off to the two of you.
We enjoyed the video and especially the humor. 👍👍🇨🇦🐶❤

Well plumed guys! I guess by now you have found this but there is a plastic plug still in the top of the valve that you just installed. And yes those hoses are expensive but you raise a load and feel good because they are fresh. Good video! 💯
Hydraulics...check. Oh that smell, it never leaves. It's been years since I worked at making hoses but I could smell it when you were cutting. LOL
Can’t wait to see the bed extended to its full height. 👍
Lt. Dan is coming along nicely! Good catch on the hose issue, that sure WOULD be a disaster. I'm 64 and had to go on disability, & having worked since I was 16 I really miss not only the satisfaction of a job well done, I also miss some of the guys I worked with. Said all that to say that's one of the reasons I enjoy your videos, the camaraderie & joking & joshing you, Matt & MBTS display reminds me of some good times I used to have with them. Looking forward to seeing the finished truck/first run!
You're assuming right: the P stands for pump (high-pressure input) and the T stands for tank (low-pressure return to reservoir). Every time the cylinder is activated, a lot of pressure and vibration will be put on the high-pressure hoses. Therefore I would make a mount for the filter assembly, thus preventing all sorts of problems. Also make sure the hoses are not rubbing agains metal or against each other, and don't start flapping around. I love the way you attack all the issues you encounter, and trying to solve them together. Love your vid's.
Lt Dan looking good ✌️😎👍👌🇺🇲
