The statement reads, to me at least, that they are going to finish what they are working on now, release it to the public and then just abandon the game to its fate, like they did to Thrones and Troy. It makes no sense to continue work on a dead game. So, hopefully the team will be put onto a decent project where CA actually attempt to give the community what they actually want and not what they think they can sell to the community. That studio has to be one of the most demoralized by this point. They've made two games, one a commercial success (due solely to the Epic deal) but a critical flop, and the second being an unmitigated commercial and critical disaster despite all of their hard work.

  • @Rafalskimi

I think it's a nicely written note. But I'm not going to sing CA's praises until those changes come into effect and once they actually maintain their new attitude after the heat dies down. EDIT: After reading Legend's community post where he brought up similar drama that happened back around Rome 2 (which I didn't know about because I wasn't really following CA/TW-related news as close as I am right now), I've reconsidered my stance. I'm not going to assume any 'good intentions' until they actually make good on those promises and maintain good practices. They got me, I admit. They suckered me in and made me drop my guard.

Changes only happens once the leadership is changed. These people are responsible for millions of dollars wasted on hyenas and pharaoh, incompetence should be properly punished. That's what I'm going to assume for now. If there is improvement and they stick to those sentiments and actually improve after all this barrage of drama, then I'm going to give them big thumbs up and I think everyone will be happy and benefit from the "new and improved" CA. If not, then we'll all know that they were just full of shit (again) and this was just another attempt at damage control before things fully get out of control.

Uh, I'm forced to disagree there. I'd much rather CA join a line of developers who didn't get into drama and then come out going 'It's fixed' or 'Here's our latest, top quality, low price'. For an example look at No Man's Sky. False start if ever there was, now it's a solid good game because the developer, especially the owner, didn't get into the drama and. just. fixed. it. I can't play an apology and I don't like paying for a bad game and an apology. If I wanted to pay for apologies I'd hire an actor. I can play a fixed or good new game.

Agreed. I have no doubt that the artists and engineers are sincere in trying to entertain/create a good gaming experience, but I think Pharoah is just another example of art mingling with the worst aspects of business. Games are treated like assembly line products and rushed out without regard for the players satisfaction or the well-being of employees, but with the intention of being just good enough to turn a quick profit in time for the next scheduled project. Art ain't like other products or services: each project takes time, passion, meticulous care, a well put together and managed creative team, along with a host of other things going its way in order to get something worth-while, but unfortunately that costs a lot of money and time, both of which are things businesspeople like to pretend they don't have.

The number of Ancient Egypt games are few and ones that are even half-decent are very far between, so I should have been among the first to pre-order. I should be sitting here stroking my giant phallus with one hand while slaughtering Hittites for the glory of the Aten with the other but somehow this game has completely failed to get me interested. That's a Ptah-Sokar-Osiris joke btw, and the travesty of being left out is not the reason. I AM EXACTLY THE TARGET MARKET FOR THIS GAME. So why do I have so little interest in it? That's the real question I think CA should be asking themselves. If they can't even get Ancient Egypt nerds excited for a TW set in Ancient Egypt, is it really any surprise that sales were so low?

5:28 That's what pisses me off the most. The immature/condescending response towards people as if they are not allowed to act out in anger as if it is beneath them is the most asinine thing imaginable. 5:39 hit the nail on the head, the attitude of don't react and it will be okay is mental. I honestly feel a lot of people cannot handle people raising their voice let alone saying a few hurty words in an angry term and so they completely ignore a service and only listen to so called "positive-vibes" in their own bubble - leading to increased delusion. This doesn't only go for games, but for a generation as a whole.

Getting angry at games is a sign of immaturity. That is the alpha and omega on the entire subject. Anyone that thinks otherwise is part of the problem, not the solution. Games are for entertainment.. everyone is going to experience media they don't like.. the only answer is if you don't like it, simply move on. As my father so aptly put years back, HOW you deliver criticism is MORE important than the criticism itself. Act angrily and folks won't listen, pure and simple. If you don't know this at this point, you're lost. I applaud Creative Assembly for keeping that part under control. Anger expressed on forum boards should NEVER be tolerated. EVER.

@@rbarnes4076 Are you more fearful of the angry individual or the person who pretends to be above the rest for the sake of moral superiority? I see his comments about Pharaoh as them signalling that they are going to abandon it after they release the campaign update as apparently a lot of what they'll need to do it is already in the game files. It just has to be activated. So this likely is not a lot of extra work to complete. He was very wishy-washy on other specifics and the game only be getting some periodic updates which, to me, sounds like they are putting the game on life support, much like Thrones and Troy (if a bug is found they'll fix it, and nothing more). It only has 100 more players than their previous Saga games, and even with the price decrease, I don't see them improving that player count. So, they'll finish the work they've been working on now and then they'll just abandon it. The game is dead. No reason to waste any more good money on a bad investment.

Thank you for your insights here I gave me a far greater understanding of the process with the influencers. I appreciate you called out the emotional blackmail. I t still feels like they are trying to pull the wool over their player base. I have had an awful lot of fun with this series and probably buy a med 3 or empire 2 game when they are reduced but beyond this think I am done with CA which is hard to say given the fun it has given me in the past. I would love paradox to pick up the mantle (I doubt that is an option but believe they could and would do a far better job) Good luck to you and all the content creators. I hope the devs that lost their jobs find a better employer !

All we want is Medieval 3: gritty, bloody, variety, deep systems, intuitive siege battles. We’ve all been asking for over 10 years now. I have zero faith that they can accomplish this anymore.

Rome TW and Med 2 are games I’ve sunk thousands of hours into. The gap between them is monumental, but since Med 2, I’ve hardly seen any leaps forward. The fact that you can boot up a Med 2 campaign and it plays pretty much like a WH3 campaign is not a good sign

@@peterk2735Absolutely, friend. There’s zero innovation and I love TWW2 (I haven’t bought 3), but it feels shallow at a certain point. I loved everything about 3 Kingdoms except the battles (corny and arcade-like imo). I could list hundreds of things I want in M3 but immersive siege battles: various large and small castles with rivers, drawbridges, portcullis, murder holes, realistic archers that aren’t bugged, options to poison water or burn crops. I just want more than what they’re willing to give.

Not everything said is said 100% right but from what have been told us so far this answer seems righter. I'm nothing but a casual total war fan. I have tried all types of total wars and multiple strategies. Thus I can say strategies especially recently have problems with giving us a product that is both fairly priced and enjoyable in long term. Although what CA has done had completely went even beyond that. Hopefully what they promised will be executed with care and their promises fulfilled. I hope their next new total war will actually bring back the joy and setting we players are looking for. I hope one day we will receive Total War Ages, a whole combination of all historical games in one, maybe, maybe one day.

Fair enough to give us this wordy bit and a peak behind the curtain a bit to see what direction MIGHT change, but honestly after watching you play three kingdoms id love for them to say they would consider working on it again, not even promise just say its something they might do. Suddenly stopping the game long before it (historically) makes sense to just seems like its more of the culture they are claiming to want to fix or work on. As many have said before me, well wait and see if they actually follow through.

The first thing I did when I got the bottom of this post, was copy and paste them all the names in a notepad document and saved it. So I if I ever see those again, I know to run the other way. Thank you, CA. Now that's the transparence I like to see.

When Sega adressed their shareholders earlier they mentioned how they got greedy because of covid gaming boom and pushed CA into branching out into other genres. And that CA will go back to focusing on what they are good at - namely strategy games. I am in no shape or form excusing CA for their failures by saying this. My point is rather that having a leadership centered around steering total War on the right course instead of new business ventures, should make a big difference. This blog post seems to be in that direction.

And it was on 2 FDD - 1,5 Megabyte od data. 😆Well maybe there was no champions. All the rest is the same for 30 years. 😂
