I once spent a month working in Saudi Arabia, and some of my colleagues were women, which means I never saw them without their hijab or niqab. What I learned about these women is that despite appearances, they are just like other women around the world. Some are cool, some are not, many like to talk about boys many would happily converse with men, if circumstances permit. This brilliant series remind me that all the people around the world has far more in common than differences.

This is just a show about characters in a band, who happen to be Muslim and are proud of that identity. It's a show about Muslim women living their lives, not about their relationship with faith, as I'm assuming from watching the trailer. Like god damn.

to be honest, this is the only show i binged watched TWICE in the same day. it really is that good. give it a chance, you won't be disappointed

I binged watch this over the weekend and I absolutely LOVE it! It's funny, it's heartwarming, and it shows us the different sides to who Muslim women are. 10/10 would recommend!

It shows nothing of the sort. Sorry to say my dear. If you want to get to know what real Muslims women are like, not made up characters played by non Muslims who know nothing about our religion, please go to your local mosque and sit with the ladies there. This is no where near the reality of what we’re actually about. Sorry if I sound bitter, it’s just so very sad that they’re secretly ridiculing the good Muslim women. This show is nothing but a mockery Our religion and closeness to God is what makes us Muslim, these lot are just characters in fancy dress

Just streamed this 6 episode series as a binge afternoon, absolutely brilliant and a breath of fresh air. The young actresses are brilliant the storyline and culture struggles are on point and the show is as fresh as the brilliant Dead Pixels. Bravo channel 4 please bring us more . Series 2 please 👏

CRIMINALLY underrated. recommend it to basically everyone i know. cant wait for season 2!

I binged the series, and then again with my husband two days later. Bashir with a Good Beard has become stuck in my head.

Loved every second of this show! Can't recommend this enough since it's highly underrated. Well done. Season two, please!

Shows and Movies this good are very rare! I loved it very much, I do hope there is going to be more!

I watched all this in one sitting & loved it...might watch it again when I get chance!!.I appreciated it even more when I found out they're actually playing all their own instruments...each character do an amazing job & I'm a big fan of Saira she's awesome!!!

Can't wait to watch. I need something new since Kim's Convenience is over. 😭

Amina's Mum ( Shobu K ) is terrific , and totally scrumptious ! In series two , ( Hey script writers.... ) could she maybe emerge as a bit of a rocker in Her own right ? but maybe playing something 'off the wall' , like very loud electric Ukulele ?? )

I am so tired of seeing Hollywood idea of potraying a strong and independent woman by showing them smoke cigarettes. I wear niqab myself. I have friends who wear modern clothes like jeans etc. NO strong women that I have seen ever felt the need to smoke in order to show that they are strong and independent. When will Hollywood let go of this terrible stereotype? Cigarettes are bad for your health. It doesn't make you seem more confident or strong. Stop using cigarettes to potray a strong woman

@@tymaa9349 I originally hear one of the actors say that it was playing in Egypt. A search on Wikipedia says that it played in 83 countries including Turkey and UAE. It was a comedy about everyday life of some Muslims in a small Saskatchewan town. It was conceived pitched and written up by a Muslim woman who grew up in such a town.

I might subscribe to that service solely to watch this show

Yet another movie where the characters are Muslim but played by non-Muslim character. Why do you think Muslim women won’t do this? Could it be that it’s a load of rubbish and not a true account of what Muslim women are really about? The sooner people see the ulterior motive and how these actors are coming in, thinking they can represent Muslims with no clue of what it is they should actually be representing. No amount of research will give someone a true insight unless they know our religion inside out. These movies and tv shows are by no means a representation of the good Muslim people in the world. The media just continues to tarnish us in its discrete manner leaving the world to think they actually know what we’re about, our morals, beliefs and how we actually live our lives. Am we wrong to be offended for being misrepresented?

Tired of seeing this representation of muslim women portrayed by non Muslim actors. If you're going to do a show like at least cast real Muslim women. Why does it always have to be about Muslim women in hijab doing things going against our faith. I'm sick of big media cooperations thinking they're representing us. Can we just get a TV show with Muslim characters existing and living their lives and not having to be a walking Quran? Like damn, there are Muslims out there who play instruments you know. If you don't agree with it or don't like seeing that type of content you can just scroll. As much as I would like to see a whole variety of Muslim content that includes religious Muslims as well, believe it or not hijabis are not perfect and this show isn't about them practicing Islam, it's just about characters in a band who happen to be Muslim and are proud of that part of their identity.

it's too unrealistic. it's coming from britain, they should've known better. britain has a large muslim community, and this doesn't show what muslim community should be. the girls with hijab playing music, okay, although some people might protest. i'm from indonesia, and we do have hijab girls play in the band, including rock..... but the girl wear full black full cover behave like that? that's impossible to be found anywhere, because the girl like that is the girl with very conservative mind, she doesn't even listen any music!

Consider that the burka might be an affectation - she isn't actually that conservative, she just dresses that way to provoke the public. I'd have to watch the show to know for sure, but remember: this is entertainment, not a documentary. The General Lee never survived the jumps in the Dukes of Hazard - they destroyed so many cars that they created a local shortage of that year of Charger.
