It is! But trying to stay positive and thankful we already found a new place ☺️
There is no way they misunderstood. It’s not normal to simply rent to others without a conversation with you. Plus with all the details you gave their behavior is definitely suspicious. Perhaps they wanted a locked down situation and couldn’t handle something more open ended. I don’t know. But in any event their behavior while legal was at a minimum, crappy.

Thank you! I’m so glad to hear it’s clearly a terrible thing to do to someone. They’ve put us in a very bad position cause looking for a rental for another year or less is not easy! It reduces the chances of having our offers accepted a lot and they must have known that.
