I’m happy for her being a mom, but her homestead knowledge and information is why I watch her videos. I also like how she is respectful for her son’s privacy. ❤

I despise grocery shopping, fortunately my husband and our daughter love it. They started shopping together when she was very young, a toddler, back in the coupon clippings days. They still go to Costco together and she is a married woman with 4 children of her own! They have a great time. I baby sit. 😁 Everyone is happy!

Ham hock is used to season beans and greens. You take the meat off the bones after they are cooked with the beans or greens and add it to the beans/greens. It's a southern thing and are awesome to serve beans and greens with cornbread to soak up the pot liquor

I always enjoy when your mom is on. She seems like such an awesome lady and that grocery list is immaculate. I also love hanging out with my mom and have some very fond memories of us watching MASH and cooking together.

Becky hasn't made it clear if she is breast feeding or not. She had frozen breast milk so maybe Josh is feeding breastmilk to baby and Becky is pumping.

That weird green vegetable that looks like a pear is a chayote (chai-yo-tay) squash. They cook up fantastic like a summer squash or zucchini!!! So good! ❤

In Australia it's called Choko. It takes on flavour well and has been historically used as fruit substitute ( stewed in pear juice and apparently you don't know its not pear) Personally I like it roasted with garlic.

@@susanjones3177 Hi Susan. It’s actually bittersweet to watch you both cooking and grocery shopping, my Momma and I also did the same thing all my life. Unfortunately my Momma passed away October 2021. We actually did it on a much smaller scale, I have one brother, 2 nieces and one daughter. And of course my momma’s husband and my husband. I truly have a wonderful time watching you both.

I have been growing horseradish for 40 years. Just remember that it takes two years to get a pungent horse radish. Plant the tops, mulch them with straw, and forget about it, watering when the soil is dry. I grow it in a really deep pot, and it hasn’t failed me yet.

My daughter bought colored plastic baskets and filled same color plastic eggs. Each child got assigned their own color so it was easy to customize by age! And the baskets all fit together with the eggs in a bag to store for the next year. And sometimes, when if you are having a family gathering and the weather doesn't really accommodate, you can have another hunt. Big family, lots of kids ideas

Idea to give you mom for hiding eggs for a lot of kids. My mom started this for our family. Each kid picks a different color and they can only pick up that color eggs. Then all the kids can do it together. We usually hide the little kids eggs in easier places and the older kids in harder places. Plus, you can also be more specific with what you hide in them if you have a 10 yr old finding only green eggs and a 2 yr old finding pink eggs. I hope that makes sense!

You can find jarred horseradish in the refrigerated section. In our store it’s over by the butter and sour cream (no idea why lol)- it has only 2 or 3 ingredients. 💜

I get mine in that area too, with yogurt & cottage cheese. I buy Amish horseradish in a jar. It's only got horseradish, distilled water, vinegar and salt.

The last green vegetable you saw is ‘chayote’ in Spanish. We put it in our caldos, Mexican soups, almost in the way that we use celery. It has a seed so don’t use that, but cube the rest and throw it in any soup!

Becky your family dynamic is exactly like mine. I am much older than you but am also the youngest of four siblings (two older sisters and a brother as well). My mother died years ago but our time shopping and traveling together are some of the fondest memories I have of her. Your videos with your mom always remind me of those days and I can hear my mom announcing when I would pick her up, "This time we are going to stick to the list and then have a lovely lunch!". Well, we NEVER stuck to the list but we ALWAYS had a lovely lunch! Thanks for taking the time to share with us!

A great all purpose sauce for seafood, fries, steak, pretty much anything is this: 2 heaping tbsp of Mayo 1 tbsp ketchup 1 tbsp mustard 1-2 tbsp horseradish prepared Mix all together and it should be a peachy kind of color. Adjust to your taste the amount of horseradish for heat. It should be creamy and umami. It’s great for breaded fish or shrimp especially! But we also use it for blooming onions. Give it a shot!

I grow horseradish. It's really easy to grow. It spreads underground really fast. It's shallow and you can put the leaves in your salad, they are super good, slightly spicy, but not really hot.

That was a Chayote Squash right by the Daikon. Also called Sayote. Widely used in the Philippines. You can get 100 of those with 1 seed! One of my favorites :)
