We are all musical | Raymond MacDonald | TEDxUniversityofEdinburgh

Improvisation is a multifaceted but often overlooked area of music. In this talk Professor Raymond MacDonald of the University of Edinburgh demonstrates that despite what we may think, we are all musical.
Professor MacDonald is the head of the School of Music at Edinburgh University. Improvisation and the psychology of music in particular music, health & wellbeing are his main interests within the field. He is a jazz saxophonist & improviser and likes to investigate the boundaries and ambiguities of conventional "classical playing".
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Thank you for this, Raymond. Music is so special that it is very sad when people do not participate because they feel they have to be talented to do so. Working with people with dementia, I witnessed first hand the power of music to maintain personality and emotional wellbeing.
