The Call | Greg Stanton | TEDxFoggyBottom

Witnessing the aftermath of the Cambodian Genocide in 1980, Greg Stanton felt called to make it his life's work to bring Khmer Rouge leaders to justice. That calling grew into the Rwanda Tribunal and founding of Genocide Watch, a global movement to prevent future genocides.
Dr. Gregory H. Stanton is the founding chairman of Genocide Watch, the founder of the Cambodian Genocide Project, and Founder of the Alliance Against Genocide. Dr. Stanton is Research Professor in Genocide Studies and Prevention at George Mason University. He was the President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars. Dr. Stanton served in the State Department, where he drafted the United Nations Security Council resolutions that created the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. He wrote the State Department plan on ways to bring the Khmer Rouge to justice, and drafted the rules of procedure for the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, a J.D. in Law from Yale Law School, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School, and a B.A. in Government from Oberlin College.

I've met few men in my life who demonstrate what it means to be a man. Mr. Stanton walks his talk. Prevention of genocide has never been more urgent and important given the advancements in biotechnology and its capacity for unprecedented WMD capacity for targeting genetic profiles. Our strength as a species is in our diversity. Our greatest weakness is our ignorance of this fact and our indifference to the suffering of others because they are different or far away.

That’s powerful. So much of this reminded me of the stories my grandparents told me about the Armenian Genocide. And I kind of understand the depression and anger this man felt.

Thankyou Dr! Am so proud of you your achievements. Currently in my country untold genocides happening in Ethiopia. In Ethiopia we have many tribes. The largest tribes in Ethiopia called Oromos. This Oromos tribes they Controlled the government and targeted and attacked Amharas Ethinic minorities. Amharas people's targeted because of the Oromos believe the Amharas were Christians Orthodox, and for long times they Controlled the government. All this negative hate sentiment by Oromos the Amharas killed, tourchered, massacred, burning properties, displaced a lots. The the Nobel prizes 2019 winners Dr Abyi Ahmed he is a prime minister now, his orgin from The Oromos tribes. Abyi administration trying to covered up this heinous crimes against the Amharas people's. I wanted the world's known and listened my warnings. Before millions Amharas murdered, massacred, the world needed to given full attention to Ethiopia. I believe the world's can Stooped this ongoing on genocides!

Study as long as you like, or get a real job. Reading you article about South Africa appauled me and made it very clear you dont know your subject. Have you tried researching all of Africa since Africans got their independence from colonialism. Evry singkle country and today still is an absolute mess where lives mean absolutly nothing. Its all about socialism vs democracy and standards. Every country has and always will have class destinction and nopthing everty is going to change that. Bleaming the white apartheid government as still the cause of problems in SA is aboslute nonsence. What happened in Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Congo in fact everywhere. Want a hate group in South Africa to target is the EFF under Julius Malema because the next uprising will be as a result of his racists hate speeches against whites. Get a life Mr Stanton and a real job and stop whaffeling on about BS.
