Show opening, with cheerleading teams and co-hosts introduced, with John coming out from sailing ship onto stage
Sponsor billboard for Maxwell House coffee
John starts things off by explaining what's to come, then passes on to Andy and Victoria, and all explain how the competition is structured, then KSU Kansas State University and the Kansas City Wildcats show their cheerleading prowess after each member introduces themselves (parts of some music during this section - namely Meco's version of "Over the Rainbow" - were reversed to avoid KZread blocking - nothing else from this part has been omitted or modified)
Commercials for:
Maxwell House - "You and Maxwell House" (sung by Ray Charles) - "Scouts Camping Trip"
Dream Whip Whipped Topping Mix (use with Jell-O Instant Pudding and Pie Filling for "Dream Pie" pie contests)
Promo for "Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones" - a 3 hour special movie, for Wednesday, May 27th
John sings and performs a musical number, then the MSU Memphis State University Tigers introduce themselves and take their turn to show their stuff (some music was reversed to avoid KZread blocking - nothing else from this part has been omitted or modified), after which Barbi Benton speaks to one "audience member" doing an extended impersonation of Barbra Streisand in the bleachers
(sadly, the recording ends right before we're treated to "Barbra's" cheerleading example)
This aired on local Chicago TV on Monday, May 25th 1981 during the 8:27pm to 8:55pm timeframe.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help!

I wish the cheerleading championships now were as fun as this. This looked more like a festival than a competition and I’m here for it.

It looks like James Hampton, who died recently, in the Weber ad.

Is it possible that was Marilyn Michaels in the wig as "Barbra," interviewed by Ms. Benton? The impressionist was, after all, part of that special . . .

Gads. We were awful back then. They just didn't play the obnoxious music they do today.
