I uncover my creative process as a composer and how I go about writing a piece of music. While everyone is different and the process of one composer may not work with another, here’s what I do and hopefully it gives you some food for thought to use in your own process.

    Woooow! This is great! I’m actually an amateur composer and you’re right, most of the time the piano is beside you when composing. Another thing is I hum a melody in my head like if I’m walking or on the train, then record that humming melody but I also use a pitch finder since I don’t have a perfect pitch. It’s what my mentor usually advised for composing. 😃

    That's great! When I hum a melody onto my phone when I'm walking or something, the pitch is all over the place too lol.

    Same! But i usually come up with my best melodies at the piano, and on the violin!

    What's the workflow for composing for orchestra? Do you write out your sketches on piano first (either for two or four hands), or do you go straight into writing for each part of the orchestra? And how do you make it more "efficient" for you? Edit: added question ^^;;

    Great video, thank you for sharing! I have a question: at one point you mentioned studying other composers' processes. Could you recommend some resources for study?

    Sorry for the late reply, but there's a series of books called "Composers on Composing for Band" and it lays out so many valuable insights on being a professional composer, including their processes. I know it's dedicated to band music, but it is applicable in any other genre like orchestra.
