England Rooney’s volley against Russia, the power and dip on that was immense

The fact people don’t see Rooney as one of the all time greatest prem players annoys me. He’s the only player to have over 200 goals and over 100 assists ever and was played as a 10, 8, winger and a striker. The guy could do it where ever you put him. True goat

I think a big part of it is he never beat Shearer Goal record, when half way through his career it looked like he would easily pass it and even get to 300 goals

@@LarryMcFly I agree. He faded fast at the end of his career which I believe was his biggest issue. Perhaps retirement from intl and a move to the US. Year or so earlier might have benefitted long term opinion

When people talk about great English strikers they hardly talk about Rooney, only Shearer and Lineker, not about him. He is criminally underrated, his finishing and positioning was top-class

I don't think anyone has any doubts about Rooney's quality as a player. I think the main complaint people have is that he underachieved in major competitions as an England international. Yes he's England's top goal scorer but a lot of his goals are in friendlies or against significantly weaker teams. Players like Shearer and Lineker may have fewer goals but were more successful in major competitions and scored when it mattered.

@Colloquial Soliloquy true. Lineker and shearer although great goal scorers, were shells of players compared to rooney, who is probably englands most technical and naturally gifted player ever.

I agree. I saw every England Wembley game when he was playing and I could not get across to people who weren't there just how much work he did off the ball. He really was a team player, something that is barely mentioned.

One of the greatest footballers ever. Massively underrated and under appreciated.

Eh? Can you not see the heavy deflection it takes off a defender? In some leagues and time periods that would have been classed as an own goal.

Abhilash H M the deflection looks like it has minimal effect on where the ball actuslly ends up. it just changes the trajectory a bit. you can see it’s still curling into the corner

He never struggled to score goals one of the finest goal scorers England ever had if not the best

Usually we will see the forwards does the finish in a safer way.. in order to not miss an opportunity.. But this man, what a confidence on his skills, outstanding talent!!!! It's such a pleasure to watch him score the Goalsss!!

This is getting recommended when Rooney is retired. Hopefully he will be a great manager 👏

@@y2k8719 he got injured in the euro2004 tournament and went into the 2006 world cup injured but he was fine for the 2010 wc, euro2012, 2014wc and euro2016. He had plenty of tournament to show his worth and to prove himself

That's exactly what I was thinking. He was great throughout his career but they really could have used those goals in major tournaments. Maybe could've given the team that spark they seemed to have lacked
