Wayne rooney can never be overrated

I feel people often forget the influence Rooney had, he was the only player to make it on to 7 consecutive FIFA covers, he was an absolute beast, you don't get that sort of talent in today's game

Rooney was the complete player. Can score, can pass, has technique, physical and athletic. But a player like him was never the best at any positions.

Wayne Rooney is one of the best players of our generation and watching him play was an honour. End of.

Definitely underrated, he was if not more, as capable as Ronaldo, but both had different set of talents, also Rooney was pure sportsman, he would simply not go down easily on soft challenge like Barca divers did,

Ronaldo joined United in 2003. He was there a year already when Rooney arrived, but you are correct that at the time Rooney was seen as the better player

Rooney was seen as Utd's future until Ronaldo upstaged him in the 2007 season

I think the reason why he gets so much criticism is because he’s teammate was Ronaldo so he was constantly being compared especially in the later years. Plus the scandals probably didn’t help his image to much but he’s human, no one is perfect. Not everyone can have a career like Ronaldo

Underrated. The best player of the last 20 years, just start😢 early and burned out because Manchester United relied too heavily on him.

I think he was a brilliant player but he was no where near what we thought he was going to be after that Euro 04 hype. It’s like France had Zidane, Brazil had R9 and Ronaldinho, Argentina Messi, Portugal R7 Rooney was meant to be our version of them but sadly he never was.

People forget that Rooney was a better player than Ronaldo for the early parts of their careers, from when they were at Man Utd together Ronaldo started to surpass him in 2007 before that Rooney was the better player, Ronaldo’s longevity is also ridiculous and Rooney’s immense peak from 16 to around 30 is very normal for a footballer

Rooney played as an 8 for his first 4 seasons in Premier League, thats alot more than "on occasion" lol. Rooney is the best english player there has ever been, his technical ability, vision, passing, shooting, power, speed, link up play, taking on defenders, tackling, hold up play, play back to goal, over the shoulder, wide, centre, pressed, the guy was a complete footballer thus why he played in so many different positions in his career.

A bit overrated due to being an Englishmen who are always overhyped by their Media, but a great Player for a decade nonetheless.

He’s overrated. His first couple seasons he was amazing. But he just dwindled off so hard. Harry Kane is better
