What a scene when he broke Gordies record. To do it in Edmonton where it all began and to have the fans erupt like that when the opposing team ties the game, Wayne truly was bigger than hockey itself. I truly believe we'll never see a player like him again. Thank you for everything Wayne.

I showed this to my Dad, who never really supported me as I played sports. He was mesmerized by this video, and I think he realized from that point on the importance of supporting your sons in sports.

My Dad also didn't really support me in sports as well. He came to one of my HS football games, and one of my HS wrestling matches(I got pinned!) Never saw me play hockey, and hated that I raced BMX, he thought it was juvenile. When I was 22 years old, I visited him and put in this video tape (1990!), and he and I sat there together in the living room and watched the whole thing. He was captivated by it, he was excited and smiling, and glued to the TV. That was a great moment in time that we shared together. I think he realized the passion, and importance of sports in your kid's life. I was the oldest and first born, and there are NO instructions on raising a child! I found that out myself as a father of three! I absolutely don't have any blame for my father. He is gone now, but he NEVER MISSED A GAME OR COMPETITION of my two younger brothers. I attribute that to one of my two heroes in life, Wayne Gretzky.

What’s fascinating is he had exactly the same hunched over skating style and the same playing style when he was a young kid in peewee (weaving in and out in circles and finding the seams and holes)…all the while with his head up. Nothing changed. No wonder he scored almost 400 goals in one season at age 10 playing against 14 year olds.

If Ovechkin had played high scoring 1980s he would had scored over 1200 goals easily! Orr and Lemieux were better than Gretzky! Soccer have 4 billion fans around the world! Cricket have 2,5 billion fans around the world! Soccer have 250 million players vs Canada 650000 players that means The Soccer All Stars would beat Orr Gretzky Lemieux easily 100 game Series 93-7! Cricketer Bradman hit 99,5 runs average and next Best only 64 runs! Gretzky 92 goals and next Best Brett Hull 86 goals! Lemieux 199 points! Bradman better than Gretzky! Sadaharu Oh hit 868 home runs in Japan! Oh better than Gretzky because Japan 130 million people and Canada 40 million! Gretzky played against players from Canada only(90% of NHL players were from Canada 1980s!) Today under 45% of the NHL players from Canada! Much better and tougher league today than 1980s NHL! Gretzky is good in Canada only not the whole world! Gretzky is not even most known hockey player! Russian Kharlamov had 225 million fans in Former Soviet Union in 1970s!

That is 100% true. My brother played against him in Junior A and 11 years in the NHL as a defenseman. He said that Gretzky was the only guy he played against, that could go from one end to the other without looking down at the puck once! Nobody..not Messier..or even Lemieux could do that. And the other thing was being able to be in full flight and suddenly stop on a dime….as the defenseman suddenly just gave up an extra 10-15 feet sometimes….
