Waylon Jennings - Wild Ones (Official Video)

Official Video for “Wild Ones” by Waylon Jennings
Released in 1994, “Wild Ones” is a spirited recollection of Waylon Jennings’ breakthrough as a leader of the outlaw country movement. “I remembered the times when me, Willie, and Jessi had come to town and how we had shaken up Nashville's hierarchy up in our fight to keep the music honest," Waylon recalled in his 1996 memoir, referring to his longtime friend and collaborator Willie Nelson and his wife Jessi Colter (who appears in the “Wild Ones” video).
Waylon Jennings was an American country music singer, songwriter, and musician. Often credited as a pioneer of the outlaw country movement, a subgenre of country music that is characterized by its rebellious, anti-establishment themes and sound. Jennings had many hits, some of which have been covered by other artists or have become country classics. He collaborated with many other artists, including Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash.
His most popular and well-known songs include "Good Hearted Woman," "Luckenbach Texas," and "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys”.
Similar artists to Jennings include Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Kris Kristofferson.

Lyrics:
Straight out of nowhere
And a little bit out of our minds
We were courting disaster
With one foot over the line
It was one for the show
And two for ol' Shorty and me
We were the wild ones
We had the town up a tree
We were the wild ones
The ones they couldn't control
We were survivors
Good hearts, body and soul
We were the winners
Cause we didn't know we could fail
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail
She was a lady
When a lady wasn't easy to be
Hangin' in limbo
She started hangin' with me
We were the music
Cause we had a song we could sing
We were the wild ones
And we had the world on a string
We were the wild ones
The ones they couldn't control
We were survivors
Good hearts, body and soul
We were the winners
Cause we didn't know we could fail
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail
We were the wild ones
The ones they couldn't control
We were survivors
Good hearts, body and soul
We were the winners
Cause we didn't know we could fail
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail
We had the world by the tail.

I was told by my mom before she passed, that when I was 7 years old, I climbed up on all the beer boxes in the liquor store and started singing waylon and Charlie Pride songs lol. She said she was so embarrassed but the employees an customers loved it lol. Still today, I listen to Waylon and the old boys as much as I can, there is simply no comparison in today's COUNTRY music.

Funny you should say that. I grew up country being a farmer and we have obviously listened to Hank, but we never listened to Waylon. We were 80’s kids so we had a ton of other stuff to listen to. But I was in the garage a week ago cleaning and thought to myself, I want to listen to some old country. I had heard songs from Waylon since I grew up going to the bar with my dad often, so I had heard his voice. But when this song came on last week I was in Awe. I have a few friends that are not with us anymore and I would give anything to sit and listen to this song with them, we were definitely the wild ones. Just an amazing song. It will be added to the short list of songs that I listen to weekly, for the rest of my life.

I never had a favorite song by Waylon, but the only one that my Father had taught me the lyrics to & taught me how to play on acoustics was my favorite - Waylon's version of My hero's have allways been cowboys when i was just 7 yrs old Thank you Dad, & all the respects to The Outlaw himself, my they both rest in peace..

Cummins Real power, I love how he tries to get Jessi in his videos. I’ve seen her in many of them. For example, she was the sexy waitress in “The Conversation”, with Waylon and Hank Williams, Jr. I agree - his smile when singing about Jessi is priceless. In his 1996 autobiography, Waylon’s love for Jessi practically “leaps” off of each page. For their 25th Wedding Anniversary, he surprised her with a vow renewal, even picking out her wedding dress. In my book, they should be the King and Queen of Country Music.
