The shock rock factor was always an act - it was vaudeville, a visual circus onstage. But the reputation grew and suddenly, it was scandalous and parents were terrified, etc. This song is Alice making fun of that reputation. It was always exaggerated, but then it's a show and in his 70s, he still does a fantastic live show! I saw him at the Greek in LA in 2018 and loved every second! Personally, he is a very charming man who has counseled other younger rockers to help them through addiction problems. He's also a scratch golfer.

Never heard of nor considered Alice Cooper as shock rock. Just theatrical.

I have always felt that Alice Cooper was able to have a bit of a tongue in cheek approach to his music. His music often makes me smile.

Alice Cooper band was huge in the 70's. The guitarist was actually the main writer then. "I'm Eighteen" is a must.

Graduated '69 and still remember his songs. He did get a little darker with "Dead Babies Can Take Care of Themselves". Alice was a preachers kid who left the church for a period but has since returned to the fold.

Not just harmless, but rather a really good person. Been sober since the 80s and actually has helped many people in the road to sobriety, including his band mate Nita Strauss and several members of megadeth and even runs a recovery program for troubled teens. He also ran a fundraiser to help a fan pay his house mortgage. Alice is the textbook definition of “do not judge a book by its cover”

I remember that song in the 80's ( born in '68) when I was younger. Steve miller Band, Rush, Jackson Brown, Eagles, all of them. I am 55 and still jam to that era.

Alice Cooper really is a nice guy! He's intelligent. He was even on The Muppet Show several years ago. He puts on an excellent Live show with lots of props and theatrical storylines

"Billion Dollar Babies" has one of the best drum patterns ever. It's a total earworm. Also, you guys will never fully understand the appeal of Alice Cooper until you witness a live performance from his heyday. You can find video footage from the '70s on KZread. The theatrics of his stage performances will make you appreciate his music much more.

The concert "WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE" is a theatrical, dark, unique experience. Alice Cooper has been sober now for a very long time. He said he feels more control on stage SOBER 🖤

"Under My Wheels" is AC at his hard-rocking best and "School's Out" is iconic since it's still heard every May and June more than 50 years after it first came out.

Alice Cooper is definitely one of the coolest artists in rock in my opinion. Classic sounds too.

My brother that passed was a HUGE Alice Cooper fan! He was 12 years older than me and I have pics of me dressed up as Alice for Halloween when I was 6. Having a hard rock/metal older brother made my grade school musical tastes very unusual lol.

I've seen Alice Cooper in concert a couple of times and he never fails to amaze, his live shows are incredible.

I have had the Honor and Privilege of taking 3 different people with me to their very first concert and for all 3 of them it was Alice Cooper on stage that night. My Virgin Sacrifices are 3 to Alice Cooper , 1 to The Cult , 1 to Whitesnake , and finally 1 to Queensryche. LoL Let me explain my Aunt was alsoy Foster Mother worked in concert promotions when I was a kid all through my early 20s in Dallas. So thanks to her , and having friends in Dallas rock radio stations I've been to a lot of concerts over the years

"The Original Alice Cooper bands" album "Love it to death" was my very favorite, so many great songs, especially "The Ballad of Dwight Frye" (the original from this album not with Alice doing it on the stage alone in later years) and "I'm Eighteen", "Is it my body" ...I like Alice but without his original band members, it's more like "A theatrics side show" rather than a great band and songs..

Alice Cooper’s sense of humour comes through in this song. I’ve enjoyed his syndicated radio show, “Nights With Alice Cooper,” for nearly 20 years. He really is a down-to-earth Rock legend with some great stories from the Rock n’ Roll world.

Nights with Alice Cooper is a fine show. I get a kick out of the stories of fellow performers he tells. And these stories are not salacious or mean spirited. Plus Alice is a golfer so that makes me happy. He traded his alcohol addiction for a golf addiction.

Alice Cooper was an entertainer more than a rocker. He was like a David Bowie and vaudeville acts sing and dance. Put on a show kind of guy. ❤️

Alice is now 75 and just released an album maybe 6 months ago and tours with his lovely wife in the act.

Alice Cooper is a rock icon. The band he started was called Alice Cooper. He kept the name for himself. He does have a darker side. Check out some of his songs like “The Ballad Of Dwight Frye” and “I Love The Dead” or “Go To Hell”. His stage shows are so good. He is a performance artist. “Alice” only sings during his shows and never speaks until the end. In regard to his “dark side”, know this. Alice is a devout Christian. He and his wife work with many churches around the country. He is an advocate against drug and alcohol use. He is nothing like his stage show. The show is all for fun. If he comes your way, go see him. You will not be disappointed.

This is more the Alice Cooper I love than "Poison", which was his 80s phase. This song is 70s, when Alice Cooper was freaking amazing and raw. They had some songs then that I promise you would NOT like (all for shock value) but you should definitely dig into more of the 70s stuff. Under My Wheels, Desperado, I Never Cry - all safe picks lol. He even has some great ballads, like How Ya Gonna See Me Now - a song he wrote to his wife when he was about to be released from a mental hospital (yes, he was really there and wrote my FAVORITE album about his time there) and he was worried how she was going to view him when he returned home.

Most people thought he was out there but he did some really good ballads like You and me, I'll never cry and only women bleed.

My dad loved Only Women Bleed until I told him the lyrics.

Alice becomes a tongue-in-cheek character that just won't die! His live performances he hangs himself, his head gets chopped off by a guillotine and he gets impaled by a very large needle. Then, he comes back for the next song! All in good fun but great shock rock. For a personal Alice Song please listen to "How You Going To See Me Now" the deals with him meeting his wife for a second time as a sober man when he was released from an asylum that his family had him committed to because his alcoholism was so bad. It is a beautiful and poignant song. They are still together today and they teach Sunday school. Lol Alice still tours often with Rob Zombie. It is a great show.

This is one of Alice's best vocals! It is a classic song! Hearing Alice and seeing Alice are two different things. He is the father of shock rock. You mentioned Rob zombie earlier. Alice did it first!! Alice Cooper got signed because when they played in a club for the first time, people left!! Frank zappa, who was at that particular gig, saw them, loved what he witnessed and signed them!

Lived in AZ. For 20 years and got to see him perform at his annual Christmas Pudding Show. All the money went to an after school program for kids to learn how to play music. One of the nicest people you ever want to meet!

This song was released in 1973 from Alice's 6th studio album, Billion Dollar Babies. It was written for friends snd family who were critical of his stage antics. Apparently it upset his Mother's church group. So this was written to let them all know he was gonna to his own thing and they could lump it. Great tune by Alice, with great back up musicians. You need to check out his song "Only Women Bleed." It's not what you might think it's as close to a ballad as Alice could get. It's a song that makes you feel for a woman, almost makes me cry.

I was in 9th grade and this album entitled "Billion Dollar Babies" was a must-have. No filler at all. Every track is a classic. It went to No. 1 in the U.S. and U.K. and was certified platinum. It also produced four hits which was very unusual in 1973.

Alice is always fire, try the Ballad of Dwight Fry, another great tune of his, the 70s were Alice in peak form, the original band is killer, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

This is old Alice Cooper from 1973... the original band, which was Alice Cooper (vocals), Michael Bruce (guitar/ keys), Dennis Dunaway (bass), Neal Smith (drums) and (the late) Glen Buxton (guitar)... this album 'Billion dollar babies' charted at #1 and was a platinum selling record in the US and made the band international stars (Escpecially after their 1970 single 'Eighteen' became their first major hit). However, success and egos and clashes led to the Alice Cooper band splitting up by 1975 after the album 'Muscle of love'. The band became Alice Cooper in the 60's and got the tag "shock rock" because their singer Vince Furnier (renamed himself Alice Cooper) would wear black eye makeup that made him look deranged... and would perform like a villain in a movie w/ props onstage. It literally scared the club audiences, who would leave during their set... It was the work of manager Shep Gordon and producer Bob Ezrin (who would later work w/ Pink Floyd, Kiss, Deep Purple, etc.) who reinvented the sound of the Alice Cooper band in 1970/ '71 that yielded the album 'Love it to death' and made Alice Cooper a big attraction... (Both Gordon and Ezrin still work w/ Alice Cooper today) Alice Cooper (the singer) decided to record solo and released 'Welcome to my nightmare' in 1975 and put together an elaborate theatrical tour to support the album... It was a huge success and another platinum record, so Alice Cooper has been solo since then, but has also recorded quite a few duds in his career. He went harder and heavier in 1986 w/ the album 'Constrictor'... Finally, the 1989 album 'Trash' got a hit single 'Poison' and his career was back in gear. Alice Cooper is still actively recording & touring w/ all the theatrics in his stage show at age 74.

My favorite song from him is "Eighteen". I was 19 when it came out and it really spoke to me.

You gotta do I'M EIGHTEEN, SCHOOL'S OUT, BILLION DOLLAR BABIES, and UNDER MY WHEELS. Probably his most famous songs and they all rock.

Great song! (which reminds me, please react to Dazed and Confused the movie). Another of my favorites are “I’m Eighteen” and “School’s Out” (the latter is also on the Dazed and Confused soundtrack). This is early 70’s Alice Cooper, which I prefer….but there’s also “Feed My Frankenstein” which is 90’s Alice Cooper.

Dead babies was my first Alice bomb, not sure you guys are ready for that one 😲 Alice's "shock" value really refers to his image, but it's the lyrics themselves that it described more. His topics, and themes are the Shock factor, and remember the era, late 60's to early 80's, he was one of a kind and Amber is absolutely correct and I think a video will tell a more interesting story 😁

The open conversations were shocking to people who functioned in a shame based mentality, I appreciate him so much for that. Brief history lesson, Alice Cooper was originally the band's name & they released 7 studio albums between 1969 & 1973. Alice Cooper has some amazing music. I've been listening to him since my high school days in the seventies. Some of his stuff is dark, yet he was on the Muppet Show and did an amazing job working with the puppets, and performed Welcome to My Nightmare, and You and Me. You would really like You and Me. His stage shows are things of legend and you should check out some of his live performances.

Alice's favorite Glenn Campbell story is when rocker Eddie Van Halen approached Coop and asked him if he could arrange guitar lessons for Eddie with Glenn Campbell!

Alice loves to play around with different styles and sounds. You never know what you will get. Blues and hard rock can all show up on the same album.

“Welcome to my Nightmare” , “Eighteen” and “Schools Out” are 3 of his best known songs. “Cold Ethyl” is a great song about an odd topic (you’ll figure it out). “Steven” and “Years Ago” highlight some of Alice Cooper’s more theatrical productions. You won’t be disappointed

Saw his Welcome To My Nightmare and Alice Cooper Goes To Hell concerts back in the 70s. The neat thing was that these albums and their concert were of a theme that told a dark story from start to finish and the live shows were extravagant visual productions with tremendous musicianship. To anyone who only ever heard his songs but never saw his show, you don’t know what you missed out on. Truly unique concert experiences that literally brought bad dreams to life!!!

The ‘shock’ was partly him being a guy named Alice, although it was actually the name of the band originally. Then his stage show set almost like an old school vaudeville horror show complete with hanging and guillotine. It’s a blast. Plus a couple of songs that are dark/off colour. Try Welcome to my Nightmare, Department of Youth, Only Women Bleed, You and Me, I Never Cry, Under My Wheels and so many more

An Alice Cooper concert is a rock opera its a true show. He still tours.

If you want to see the shock rock of Alice Cooper then you 100 percent need to watch a live performance of The Ballad of Dwight Fry. It has zombies, a straight jacket, and a guilten.

Another really good song by Alice Cooper is Only Women Bleed. Caused a lot of controversy when it came out because some people misunderstood the lyrics. Alice Cooper along with KISS really propelled the horror theme in music, but because of the time frame they were in they were never near as hard as someone like Rob Zombie.

AC is very diverse and can pull of many different portrayals in his music. Your reaction is typical to the folks that never heard him..."I didn't know" "or expect" ...this is what has made him a legend. FYI he has history with everyone of those people in the photos on the wall behind you, from Sinatra to Hendrix....they all crossed paths with AC and has gained much respect of him along the way. He has more respect in the music world than most realize.

Alice is such a treasure. His music and songs are great. But as a person, he is very different than his stage persona. He is a devout Christian. Reads the Bible daily and leads bible study. Plays a ton of golf. He is very generous and does a lot of charity work. He was best of friends with Glenn Campbell before his passing (they shared being recovering addicts and helped each other. Alice has been sober since 1983). And from all accounts, just one of the nicest people around.

Alice Cooper was a very talented band in the 70's. From folk-rock ballads like "I Never Cry' and "Only Women Bleed", to shock rock, which must be seen live with songs like "Dead Babies" and/or "The Ballad of Dwight Frye/Killer" and rock anthems like "School's Out" and "Billion Dollar Babies" or "Halo of Flies" or catchy pop rock tunes like "Be My Lover" and "Feed My Frankenstein". The live performances are wildly entertaining.

I'm an Alice Cooper fan but lean towards his earlier work. As you dive in as you said you wanted to, you'll find he went through different stages and tried different styles. He is amazing to have had such a long and successful career. Please check out the studio version of Schools out. You want power with a jazzy feel? You'll get it. And listen to the bass especially in the beginning. This song is just as fresh today as it was when I first heard too long ago, lol. You guys great, thank you.

I loved his Temptation album, although it doesn't get much play.

I saw his Welcome to My Nightmare concert in MI many yrs ago. He had so much going on on the stage I know I missed some good stuff. I call him the first MTV because his stage was set up as a TV screen and he walked thru it, as it came to a close up of his mouth the red carpet was his tongue. Blew me away. Thanks for the flashback y'all.

I think my favorite album is "From the Inside" which was written from his perspective in a mental ward. He was using this to literally get out all of his emotions as as he went through treatment fir his alcoholism. It gas some of his softest songs like "How You Gonna See Me Now." Ot also has some....interesting song topics. The music is amazing, but if you listen to the lyrics.... Another amazing song, and album is Welsome to My Nightmare which has the incredible "Only Women Bleed." Let Alice take you down a new rabbit hole

'Hey Stoopid' is an amazing song from Alice Cooper and has a more harder riff to it. Definitely check that one out! 🤘🤘🤘

Alice Cooper's music has changed a lot over the years. Their 1st album was '69 & he is still going today. For more great songs check out "Schools Out", "Under My Wheels", "Guilty", "Go To Hell" or "Serious".

Thanks you guys!!! Yes Alice has done every genre and this was early 70s. He has done other stuff more dark or heavy but he always is fun and his sense of humor shows through even in the darker or more metal ones. His sound has been so diverse over the years that you never know what sound you might get from him. He’s a great guy who is friends with so many musicians, he even was friends with Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon and others whose names don’t start with J

Yea, two of my favorites are Zorro's Ascent and The Man Behind the Mask.

There are actually 2 iterations f Alice Cooper. The first iteration Alice Cooper was the name of the band. Then the lead singer (Vincent Furnier) decided to go solo but wanted to take the name Alice Cooper with him. To this day he still pays royalties to the other band members for the use of the name. I looked it up and saw that your first song by Alice cooper was Poison (yes some of us do know how to search lol). This was with the band while Poison was a solo. However Poison was late in his career and 10 years past his prime. His solo heyday was the mid to late '70's. Also this was the period he learned that ballads did very well in the charts. I suggest you listen to Only Women Bleed, I Never Cry, or You and Me. If you found this song surprising, these will absolutely amaze you.

Yes!! When doing Alice Cooper you must do the old 70s stuff. Everybody (even the younger generation) knows "School's Out" as they sing it at the top of their lungs, or "I'm Eighteen". The album cover for "Welcome to my Nightmare" used to scare me (heck, Alice himself scared me) and my older sisters would sit on me and force my to look at it or listen to it then I would cry and tell my mom I was ready for my nap just to get away from it. Now, I see the album for the masterpiece it is and I am so glad I had older sisters to expose me to the good old classic rock n roll.Roll. Oh, and another Motorcity original. Detroit love.

Saw Alice Cooper's show at Griffith Park in L.A. Not calling it a concert cause it was more of a theatrical presentation. Really good show.

Alice Cooper is great. A few of the songs were rather dark but most were very fun with a sense of humor. Suggestions: Under My Wheels, School's Out, I'm 18, Billion Dollar Babies, Elected, Muscle of Love. His singing was always incredible, and the band were always on fire. Great reaction y'all!

Great reaction. Love the humor in the lyrics: "I went to church incognito. When everybody rose, the Reverend Smith, He recognized me, And punched me in the nose, he said No more Mister Nice Guy..." A playful, tongue in cheek song addressing his (undeserved) reputation based on his stage act.

Yes you never know what your going to get with Alice Cooper he's been around since the late 60's this song is from his early days. Then in the 80's here can't back with a harder sound. So many great songs over the years. "feed my Frankenstein". " Hey Stoopid". " Bullion dollar babies". "Welcome to my nightmare" too name a few. As for Rob Zombie "Dragula" "Living Dead Girl" "more human than human" "never gonna stop" or from his early band White Zombie "Thunderkiss '65"

One of his biggest hits from his early years. Great song. His best album (imho) was Welcome to My Nightmare. If you're looking for 'darker' Alice Cooper (real name Vincent Furnier and son of a pastor), try this album, which is one of the best concept albums of the rock era. Some songs to try are 'Welcome to My Nightmare,' 'Cold Ethyl,' 'Only Women Bleed (a ballad),' and 'Department of Youth.' This album is in my Top 5 of all time. The 'shock' part comes from his live performances, which have featured a guillotine among other things.

The original Alice Cooper lineup was truly great. They made 4 masterpiece albums: Love it to Death(1971), Killer(1971), Schools Out(1972), and Billion Dollar Babies(1973). I recommend checking out their song “Caught in a Dream”.

Saw him in concert in the 70's.....He's one of my fav's..... My son when he was 13 years old I turned him on to Alice. He got into him. Which was cool cause I was 40 when he was 13. I was blessed growing up with music from late 60's and all my teenage years were all in the 70's. I had it good to jam in the 80's which I was in my 20's and then in my 30's in the 90's and beyond. I've at least been to 100 concerts. I was a party animal. Great time & life I had and having still fun in my 60's.

Alice Cooper been around since late 60's, and pretty much did an album a year ever since so you got some catching up to do!!!! And yes as years go by the sound changes to keep up with new genre and new fans. Fun fact his wife and daughter are part of the show and perform on stage. My all time favorite albums are "Welcome to my nightmare" " Goes to hell" and "Lace and whiskey" . BTW he is on tour atm so you may want to check it out, he does have his own webpage with touring place and date, as well of link to pre-buy tickets.

It was a huge hit in 1974, when Alice Cooper Band came the first time here in Brazil.

2:22 this was the "original Alice Cooper group". The band itself at that time was called Alice Cooper and and after they broke up in 1974 Vincent Furnier, now legally changing his name to Alice Cooper, was never able to match the magic of the original 4 members. Michael Bruce (guitar, organ), Glen Buxton RIP (lead guitar), Dennis Dunaway (Bass) and the incredible Neil Smith (drums). He was still great but, in my opinion, that magic was gone. Why you thought he was heavier is because in later years his guitarists used high gain amplifiers. Back when these albums were made the two guitarists, Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton used Marshall Super Lead amps, which although very, very loud, had a cleaner edge to them which made the songs sparkle. High Gain amps had not been invented yet. I saw the original band 4 times from 1971 -1973 and nothing will ever top them! 🎸

I’m from the Detroit area, my first concert was Alice Cooper at Cobo Hall 1979. I’ve seen him three times since then, and he always put on a great show. The best thing my older brother ever did for me was turning me on to all the classic rock from the ‘70s

His stage show was magic. Literally. He was guillotined, hanged, etc etc on stage. Stage manager early on was a magician. Oh yeah he had a giant boa for a time too. Like as in constrictor not feather. Although he did the feathers too. Alice didn't do shock rock. He arguably invented it pretty much.

People often refer to him as "The Godfather of Shock Rock" but in many ways that pigeon holes him. Alice Cooper is actually his stage name, and is intended to be an alter-ego persona. Yes, he definitely has awesome tunes like Welcome to My Nightmare. But he also has great reflective songs such as I'm Eighteen, Hello Hooray, and I Never Cry.

I loved this song growing up a ROCKER. You can't be hard all the time. Sometimes you have to go a little soft.😉

This shows his sense of humor and intelligence. He's a step ahead of those rockers who take themselves too seriously.

If you've ever seen the graph where they show that the more you f around, the more you find out, the more red the hair, the crazier they are...well somewhere along the way there's a graph position for humor and hard rock, and Alice Cooper does it perfectly.

Alice Cooper’s best friend was the country star, the late Glen Campbell. They were neighbors, their families vacationed together.

I was 9 years old when I saw my first Alice Cooper concert. My sister who was 11 years older took me because she had to watch me. Alice was the first to use face paint. The dark face paint is because many of his songs have a darkness to them. Such as Steven.

"Under My Wheels" was always one of my favorite songs by Alice.
