Wavy Hair vs Curly Hair - 4 DIFFERENCES

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Wavy hair vs curly hair, what are the differences? What makes wavy hair different from curly hair? Why is wavy hair included in the curly girl method? Why is wavy hair grouped in with curly hair? Wavy hair isn’t curly, but it is wavy. In this video I talk about the 4 main differences that set wavy hair apart from curly hair.

It's been a learning curve over the years, first wanting stick straight hair and then hankering after 3a/3b curls. The best and worst thing about wavy hair? Some days it looks amazing for no known reason. Other times you look like you crawled through a hedge backwards before getting electrocuted and having a family of mice make a nest on your head (usually on the days that you want to look nice). You can follow the exact same routine and get different results every single time. Beat that straight/curly/coily guys n gals!!! I'm interested if other wavies have this problem though; I live in the UK and I would describe my hair type as 'Mediterranean'. Whenever I go into a 'natural hair' beauty shop though I get the evil eye like "you're not black. You shouldn't be buying shea moisture/cantu/eco styler etc". But my wavy, dry, coarse hair hates sulphates and silicones. And it loves oil, oil, and more oil. The world isn't divided into people with type 3/4 hair, and white people with straight, blonde hair that needs washing every single day. But I guess that is also another advantage that we have; wavies can take tips and advice from those with type 1 through to type 4 hair since our hair is so variable - we get the best of all worlds. Wavy hair is beautiful!!!

I can relate to that. Trust me, taking care of my thick, wavy, Asian hair is like taking care of a child. Sometimes it's cooperative, sometimes it throws tantrums. It's on the oily side so it has to be washed every other day but during summer/humid days, I have to use conditioner so it won't frizz. It doesn't like heat either so when I use hairdryer or flat iron, it goes all rough on me. So yeah, my hair is like a picky child with many allergies BUT I learned to love it still :)

Thank you thank you thank you for this video! This makes me feel way more valid about my hair. Growing up I’ve always and around 2c hair that’s a bit more 2b now, and my sisters would insist my hair was just straight and I needed to brush it more and it wasn’t wavy or loose curls. Along with that, I learned to love my long waves when I was around 11 (I’m 13 now) but s friend came into my life who claims she had wavy hair and straightened it everyday. I became very self conscious and began straightening my hair. I didn’t use any heat protectants as I didn’t really know better. So now I’m trying to get back to the way my hair was before but it’s very frizzy and has a lot of breakage.

I don't know my hair type. I brush it a lot of times everyday, because if I don't it gets messy, with a lot of knots everywhere and it's impossible to brush it. The roots of my hair are straight, but I definitely don't have straight hair. When I was a kid, my hair formed a lot of tinglets everywhere, but now it's just a mess. I have some strong tinglets that appear and disappear under my hair, some waves, some curls. I take care of my hair but it's hell. Today I didn't brush it so it's very voluminous, messy, with a lot of knots, and more curly than wavy, but I don't know my hair is stupid.

Emma Mignot could your hair be dehydrated? Using hydrating conditioners with the squish to condish method worked wonders for me. If your hair feels coarse and tangles it might be sensitive to protein. Try leaving out products that have anything “hydrolyzed” in the ingredients, that usually refers to protein that’s broken down for absorption. Also look up moisture/protein balance, that helped me a ton.
