Dental hygienist here. I use the WaterPik, in addition to standard flossing, and recommend it frequently and was able to get some great tips from this video. I like the idea of filling the reservoir twice and the lips closed for a less messy experience. Definitely will be adding that to my patient instruction.

A really good product...it prevents the build of even the smallest amount of plaque-provided that you still brush your teeth regularly. I use it after the last meal of the day . After using this I do only drink water until next the morning. I brush my teeth in the morning plus mouth wash -somewhere during the day at work( ca 1 hour after lunch) and then about an hour after dinner-or whenever I have the last meal and beverage of the day.

Does this replace normal flossing? Or do both? Also I use bristle picks to and is it ok if they rub against the inflamed gum between the teeth? They bleed a little but only when I use the bristle pick and not regular floss. Guess I’ll look into buying one of these and see if that works better.

This is totally different than my periodontist trained me to do. Use a flexible small rubber tip. And move it slowly along the area between teeth and gums, spending extra time between teeth. Keep the pressure around 3, or it can damage your gums. Water temp is personal preference. I like it hot. It cools down quickly while going through the tubing.

In other words, one click equals the next pressure level all the way up to 10. Also, what kind of tactile marking might be on the reservoir for helpful to fill it? The clicks on the dial would be heard, as well as possibly felt by the user.

I have developed a bad gag reflex from past 3 years. Even brushing, with electric, sometimes gives me an urge to vomit. So closing mouth completely and allow water to fill up might be bad for me. Just ordered waterpik. Fingers crossed

The person who might be using this device is myself, the person who is blind. Do you have to hold the reservoir as well as the handle? If so, how heavy is it 14, and is there an audible notification when the reservoir is not full. Of course, I would know that there is no water coming out of the tip anymore when that happens.

I guess you can use both string and the water floss for double assurance. Nice video, but you forgot to tell people as you use this particular unit that there is a pause button on the handle to stop the water from flowing as you pause to spit. They should have designed it so that you press the button to make it flow, not the other way around. Just got mine and I like it so far, but still a little uncoordinated using it. If you put some mouthwash into the water, it makes your mouth feel so much fresher.

I can't understand why people are saying that when they first used this unit they made a mess of their bathrooms. Surely it's common sense to keep your mouth closed when using any water floss. Another thing instead of pushing the tip to one side while you spit, why not just turn it off using the on off button on the handle and save water. All these water floss units need are a little common sense.

I am at the dentist, and I noticed them using their own version of that water pit device, I noticed that they rub at the teeth and in between with a little bit of pressure. She did water pic users do this as well? This is for everybody, not just for myself.
