3 Easy Ways to Prevent Gum Disease at Home!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video Dr. Joseph Nemeth & Dr Tom McCawley discuss how you can prevent gum disease at home!
Periodontal disease tends to be difficult to eliminate once you have it. So its important to stop the gum disease in its tracks before the pocket gets too deep.
Be sure to clean between the teeth thoroughly. Brush your teeth regularly, floss and use a water irrigator daily.
If you are in the Florida area Dr Tom McCawley is the guy for you! He is an exceptional periodontist and a good friend of mine. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

    I am 60 years old and have all my natural born teeth. I brush twice a day, gargle with mouthwash and floss daily and have not had any cavities. toothaches or any gum problems in over 25 years. In fact my Dentist told me I have the teeth of someone in their 30's! My gums are pink and don't bleed. My message is take good care of your oral health. It will be worth it and there is nothing like a healthy mouth and teeth!

    We often talk about brushing and flossing but we forget about diet. For oral health you need vitamins and minerals: vitamin D, C, A,E and K, you also need Omega-3 , calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. You can get vitamin D and Omega-3 from fermented cod liver oil capsules , calcium from Kale. Kale and wheatgrass powder are actually rich in vitamins and minerals. Start with your diet.

    Vitamin c does wonder for your oral health, I love oranges, an lemons an I eat them almost everyday, had on start of gum disease years ago, went in to see my dentistm6 months later an he asked what had I been doing, because my gums were in such good shape compared to my last visit, he asked if I was taking vitamin C, an I told him no, but I eat 3 oranges a day, along with lemons, an limes, I love citrus fruits, an he goes that's it, you are getting a lot of vitamin C an vitamin C is good for your oral health, an also your skin an hair. I am 56 years old, almost 57, I am completely natural. Everything I use on my body is something that you can grow in your garden, my skin is beautiful, an I don't even wash my face everyday. For all my ladies who spent tons an tons of money on face creams, an serums, save your money. Do research, fine natural products that are so much cheaper, or no cost if you have a lemon or orange tree, I live in California, an citrus trees are every where, most people have them in their back yards, I am at the age now, where, I refuse to buy beauty, my inner beauty shows, which is most important, but most people think I am very attractive, an they have no idea I am almost 60 years old

    I am convinced of the terrain model - meaning that your general health is extremely important in periodontal disease . For example if you are a type two diabetic you will be much more prone to periodontal disease with the same cleaning regime as a person without diabetes. These two advocate for cleaning / symptom treatment . Your diet is important . Your sleep is important . “ If you don’t have a healthy mouth you cannot have a healthy body “ it’s the other way around ,buddy . You should perhaps clean your teeth but taking care of your overall health and keeping fit is of more relevance to this problem .

    Hi doctor , I just wanted to share a cultural anecdote : in India, traditionally, people do not floss and are wary of dentists under the mistaken notion that they “ pull out your teeth” so dental hygiene is not like in the west but surprisingly people are cery aware of the importance of keeping your tongue clean and all kinds of contraptions exist on the market to keep the tongue clean to ward off bacteria Also in India, you find all kinds of natural toothpastes ( with cloves, fennel seeds, cinnamon grounded bark) that you don’t get in the US

    Thank you doctor. I currently have gum infection in one of my tooth and was given Arestin on one area. I was quoted $70 for each site and I needed two. I could only afford one since it’s not covered by my insurance so the infection hasn’t completely resolved yet but I’ve now started using Smartmouth mouth wash that I got on sale for under $10. Hopefully this will help with the infection and prevent future gum decease. I just wish they make going to dentist affordable for low income.

    This routine is absolutely recommended. By the way: A double-blind study at the University of Wurzburg in Germany showed that drinking 3 x 100 ml of lettuce juice after two weeks is effective in improving the condition of the gums in case of periodontitis. Probably other green vegetables containing nitrates converted to nitric oxide would also do the job.

    I am scared, terrified. I had an amergency surgery to pull a very badly infected tooth that led to a serious abscess. The abscess had eaten away my jaw bone for 5 months without me knowing it or feeling pain until it was finally exposed. The extraction and massive infection led to over use of antibiotics to save my life. It left me with oral thrush, gingivitus, and resistant to Fluconazole. So I am trying home remedies and here is it 3 months later and still dealing with oral thrush after using home remedies and candida diet. I will try the lettuce juice.

    In India, there are roadside “ dentists” for the poorest of the poor, they don’t use anesthésia, or electric drills but just pliers, plastic stool and painkillers and they charge less than 1 dollar (!) for tooth extraction. In Indian govt hospitals, there are no dentists so the poor resort to these medieval practitioners as they can’t afford private treatment It is really fascinating to see the difference between the US and India in dental health care

I've heard that once these teeth have been removed BONE LOSS WILL CONTINUE because the body will remove bone that is not attached to teeth. Can you give any insight on this. THANKS Much.

  • @josephrnemeth

    @josephrnemeth

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey! Thanks for reaching out. So the best option in my opinion is dental implants because... you're right, having the teeth removed will cause the bone to deteriorate overtime. However, a dental implant is placed into the existing bone, and more bone can be built up in order to place the implant properly! Once it's there, the implant will stimulate the bone and cause it to stay in place for a lifetime! They may be a bit more expensive but trust me it's worth it! A bridge is not a bad option, but it may endanger the neighboring teeth overtime because of the bone loss. I hope this was helpful.
