GEORGE !! Find a Tire that Fits Inside the Hole of that tire. Cut Off the Rims of the Smaller tire, or Two to make an inside wall for the larger tire. Then, Fill the space in between with Foam Spray insulation 👌

It’s probably more work than spray foam, but if you’re concerned at all about the spray foam tainting the water… the first thing that came to mind was Rockwool, the spun basalt. You’re probably already aware of it if you’re pouring footings. It’s used below grade as an exterior layer of insulation. All the best!

Ok, need more info on the water. Is the culvert placed vertically? It reaches down to standing ground water right? The one inch line inside the drain tile is pressurized water from the grey building?

Yes and yes, the culvert transfers ground heat up to the bottom of the water trough keeping it and the water line thaw.

Interesting setup, I'm in northwest Wisconsin looking to find a farm. Do you see any issues with the waterer in below zero temps for weeks at a time?

I break the ice out daily, main thing is keeping water line from freezing.

Check Greg Judy …he has the same water tire set up. But, he just added a new one and has a Brass Shut Off Valve, in the Buried Supply pipe that goes to the Tire. It’s a cool set-up.

How did you build this? Like how do you get the water supply line into the well? What is at the bottom of this well? How do you get the valve into the bottom?

The watering setup you have is pretty clever. How're your sheep holding up? Wondering about your thoughts re: combining flock and herd together for winter. For your thistles - I've had success with what you're doing - letting the fertility drive other plant species forward that can outcompete them. I had a smaller field that was rotten with them, and fed hay on it all last winter. They really didn't come back around because the grass could win. - Peter

Thanks, the sheep are doing well, they are at the home farm now. We have been having some dog issues of our own. We're gonna put down as much carbon on this farm as we can this winter.

I like the waterer. Looking to add another one this summer. Is the valve just under the surface or how do you service it? I'm thinking you are aware but be careful about sheep eating cattle minerals. Copper is too high.

I took the two blocks with copper out when we put the sheep in. The valve is mounted to the side of tank near the bottom, it's a 15 gallon tank. Then I have a garden hose from the valve to the 1"line

Have you considered the Free Choice mineral system.
