Hi everyone! So excited for today's part 2; skin tones are such a fun thing to mix but can be a little intimidating if you've never tried it out before! :) Right after I uploaded this it occurred to me that I forgot to mention that many Asian & Oriental skin tones would also fall into our first category. There are also many lighter variances in African American skin; these would be very easy to mix by simply adding more water and burnt umber to our middle recipe. Didn't want anybody to feel left out. :) My videos are unscripted, so sometimes there's a thing or two that I unintentionally forget to mention! I highly encourage you to customize and experiment your mixing based on what/who you paint most frequently. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below and thank you so much for watching! You guys are wonderful! :)

So crazy- I was just thinking today "I need to learn how to mix skin tones in watercolor". Thank you!!!
The viewfinder trick was really helpful! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
You could not have posted this in better timing. My watercolors came in the mail yesterday, and I wanted to be daring and try doing a portrait today, and i was gonna look up to do skin tones today. thank you! haha.
Probably the most helpful watercolor video I've seen.
Oh my gosh I couldn't wait for the next part *-* Thank you for learning me this
I love that this is a good base recipe to start with. It helps me to be able to be consistent with my mixes. Thanks for sharing.

This is one of the most educational and influential teaching videos I've seen to date. Thank you so much for providing us with your recipe for the skin tones. That was very serous of you and many artist new and seasoned will benefit from this video. Now, it is my turn to try my hand at skin tones
Great lesson! thanks for sharing!
I just found your channel and loved the video, subscribed and look forward to seeing more. Thank you so much
This was a great lesson! Thank you.
Of the videos I found on youtube, yours was one of the most enlightening. great didactic. It was easy to understand. One suggestion: make another video explaining how it came in the other 15 variations of skin tones. Thank you for sharing with us.
This video helped so much. Very well explained. Thankyou!
I've avoided Naples yellow because it's often fairly opaque. The Daniel smith one you used looks pretty transparent though. I may give this a try!
thank you, this is so helpful
Excellent approach 😁
I just love it! Thank you for your time. I have comissions but feel so insecure to do watercolor skin, with color pencils I feel safe. Do you uploaded the hair video?

@TheWittyGrittyPaperCo what colors would you recommend adding to the main ones to make all the different swatches? Mainly yellows, browns, and reds?

Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment; great question! I added mainly yellows and pinks to our left most mix, purples, blues and reds to our middle mix, and yellows, browns and reds for our right mix. But I definitely encourage you to experiment with other colors beyond those as well. :) Hope that helps, and thank you so much for watching! :) Best, Meredith
Is dioxazine violet and diaxozine purple the same color. (Winsor and newton)
Hi! I prefer slightly unnatural skin tones, so like a more blue undertoned mix. However, I am extremely new to watercolours, and I recently bought the Mijello mission gold 34 asia set. Which of the colours in the mijellos do you think would work to create the skin tones you made in your video, and how would I go with creating alternate tones? Would I use the naples yellow (or mijello equivalent whatever that is) with a blue instead of the red? Or would it work better with a lighter purple? Any tips/colour names would be so appreciated! Thank you :D

Just look at the pigment numbers to compare (they start with letters followed by numbers). All that information is online. find the brands she mentioned, then make yourself a chart. So, if the pigment number is the same then it should be equivalent. Only the names vary. I have the mission golds as well and the names they give aren't always accurate, but they are great paints; very intense. Hope this helped.
What can I use besides sepia ?
Very helpful! What's your mixing plate?
Thank you!
what kind of paper do you used???
