I'm from Birgunj and it was too tough for the not-so city areas of Birgunj wherein municipalities couldn't send tanks of drinking water. People were compelled to ask their neighbours for it(if their handpump worked) and not all of them helped for the obvious reason. The recent rain did help a bit but talking about the future, it doesn't seem nice. Shit is about to get real in future.

I just got my home town, Mahottari a week ago. And hand pumps here were dried only after few days after the first rainfall we finally got water after the drought.

I remember birgunj used to a city full of ponds and lakes. They used to recharge ground water and keep the population thriving. Can birgunj metropolis revive the ponds so that there would be no water scarcity?

I am from pyuthan.I have faced the problem of drinkin water as well as irrigatin problem. Due to climate change water level of jhimruk river is decreasin year by year in the month of baishak and jesth which is affecting the whole agriculture cycle and farmers are facing the problem of it.

In Janakpur, if you want clean drinking water, you have to go below 400feet at least. This has been a major problem here.

I recently faced a water shortage in my village(near Rajbiraj, Saptari), which people had never imagined. The primary water source in Rajbiraj mun. is the KHANEPANI SANSTHAN LIMITED where the main boring seems to have dried up in recent years and it was compelled to construct another deep boring outside the city to supply water. Hats off to unplanned urbanization, deforestation and the Chure exploitation 😔

Thanks to our current Mayor Mr. Rajeah Man Singh & Khane pani Organization. They really helped to minimize the water crisis in Birgunj. Though suppling water via pipe is temporary solution & we need to work on natural ways to reserve water. Please save water as much as you can.

I still remember just digging 5 or 6 feet you would see ground water now you have to dig more than 25 to 30 feet to find water. Ground water reserve is depleting rapidly. One grave mistake of our policy makers is that they see our fresh water resources only to build hydropower or irrigation canal. Water on itself is going to be scarce resources in future and Nepal is at 7 th place at high risk of global climate change.

the rain water is mainly loss through the seepage and the rate of infiltration is too low in the case of hilly region so we have to make the plans to increase the rate of infiltration which increases ground water table
