Fantastic video Adam! Thank you. My brother called tonight since his Moen shower diverter was splitting the water 50/50 between the spout and shower head. He was panicking because he had called Four Seasons Plumbing who charged him $90.00 to come to his house to inspect the problem and they gave him an estimate of $600.00 to repair the shower diverter. NOT KIDDING! Moen is going to ship the repair kit to my brother free of charge and I will install it for him. I hope he buys me a slice of pizza.

THANK YOU. I'm a very sub-standard handy-man, and this worked perfectly. In actuality, it appears only the washer slipped out of place, and I was able to simply put it back in as instructed. It did not appear damaged or worn in any way. If this does not work permanently, I'll purchase a new assembly. My cost of repair = $0. Very happy here.

As a retired man, who used to just hire his repairs done, and now finds he is doing a lot of minor jobs and doing them for the first time, thanks. I never would have gotten past the initial failure to remove this part, the part being where it could not be observed. And that was the hardest and longest part of this repair, fiddling with opening the part to allow it to be removed. Well, the other time consuming part was traveling into the near by town, since the hardware store in my little town would have sold me a new faucet rather than a part for the repair at 1/10th of the cost.

It takes a lot for me to comment on videos, but I had to on this one. I had the issue where water was slowly coming out of the shower handle and a majority of the rest of the water was uncontrollably spraying from the spout still when the diverter was supposed to be engaged. I have a spout that doesn't seem to have a set screw and seems to be impossible to twist off. This video was so clear and concise as to what I needed to do to fix this issue myself without having to shell out more cash than needed to have a plumber come in... not to mention waste their time when they could be taking care of much bigger jobs than this one. I followed the steps of this video and sure enough, only have of the black washer still remained. Thank you for taking the time to clearly show everyday homeowners how to fix something simple without having to break the bank!

Fantastic video and info, Adam! Had no idea the diverter was replaceable! We've been plagued with a guest shower that screams, and quite embarrassing when having guests overnight. I knew it was the diverter either corroded or hardened. Trying to remove the entire spout was proving difficult (felt like the copper plumbing was going to come with it). Based on your video, I just removed the diverter (took 2 minutes) and sure enough the gasket is hard as a rock. Heading to the store today to get a kit. Related topic, I've watched a couple of your electrical wiring videos. Just installed a new disposal this weekend, and didn't twist the wires as you recommend. Going to open it up real quick and make better wire nut connections. Keep the videos coming!

Excellent Repair video and very clear explanation. I had a Moen Faucet and I got the repair kit; did the replacement and the diverter now works normally. Thank you. I wanted to know how it works, but could not find anything from Googling. I try to put in my explanation here and hope to help others who are interested in knowing how it works as well as get the repair done. Rubber Seal with a hole in the center. The faucet water inlet hole is bigger than the hole of the rubber seal, but smaller than the seal itself. So the rubber seal could seal off the inlet hole completely when pulled to the UP position, forcing water to come out of the shower. The water pressure coming into the center hole of the seal can inflate the rubber seal slightly to produce a water tight setup. Therefore, a soft rubber seal is important. When it is too old it can harden and would not provide a water tight setup. It shows how clever this design is. The water pressure on the Plastic Gate would hold the Gate in the UP position. The Gate would not fall down because of frictional force. However, if the water supply is cut, The Gate would not be held there and falls to the DOWN position and this also the default position. So, next time you turn on the water, it would come out from the faucet and not the shower. When showering (ie, Gate in the UP position), if you manually push down the rod/button, you can overcome the frictional force created by the water supply and get the Gate back to the DOWN position, stopping the showering, and let water come out of the faucet. Note 1, the faucet water inlet hole is inside the faucet you have to use a light to find it. Note 2, water tight to the water inlet hole and around the circular plastic ring surrounding the rubber seal on the Gate, you have to examine a diverter repair kit to appreciate the design.

THANK YOU for this EXCELLENT video❗️ I’m a complete plumbing bonehead ( heck, I’m many kinds of a bonehead ) and even I was able to get it fixed perfectly in 84 seconds, once I found the correct repair kit by looking at spout gate images online, this after pulling out the original gate. For the extraction, I used a narrow head standard screwdriver inserted between the two plastic holding tabs where they gripped the lift rod. No tools required for the install phase, friction fit. Perfect repair, under $8, thanks to YOU. Note: the old gasket was intact, but 38 years old and hard as a rock. PS: The new black gasket sits slightly recessed in its socket in the gate, but under water pressure it moves forward & becomes flush to the valve seat to make a good seal. Only after the install that I noticed that the kit I used was the exact same one in your video. Surprisingly, the specialty plumbing repair supply store that I called first did not have it, but a big box store did. Plumbing repairs make me very anxious, but you gave me the confidence to git it done. Adam, you are a HERO to many!

Very straightforward video without waste of time. Thank you! Might also start by turning the spout counterclockwise and turning up so it's easier to access the parts for us old folks who don't want to lay down in the tub and work upside down. Or, removing the spout and replacing it after repair with new teflon tape & etc. That also allows you to clean any sentiment/corrosion that is allowing water to leak around the seal. Thanks again!

I was hoping this would be a simple repair and it looks like it will be. Got my Diverter Valve (DV) out thanks to your advice and think I found a replacement on Amazon for the lovely price of $8. I took mine out and it was sitting back a little from the front of the plastic holder and at 17 years old, a little hard. I tried an o-ring behind it to push it out a little but that didn't help, hence the order for new ones. Thanks for the look inside the nozzle!!

Thank you. My plastic part was square and Home Depot in Canada only carries Moen kit which are rectangular. I ended up just replacing the o ring .key is to have a small long nose plier to pull out the old white plastic part without damaging it, so you can reuse it. Subscribed!

This was a great help...I am a 70 year old woman and I have always been the handyman in my household...this is truly and easy fix and thank you for being so detailed. I have the moen also but not sure if it is rectangular or square piece so I will take it out and order the repair kit off of amazon.

Instructions worked for my Price Pfister diverter problem. Thanks for such clear instructions! I found just the gasket which was all I needed for $2.50 at Ace hardware. I also realized there was some mineral buildup inside that was causing a problem so after I took the diverter out I wadded up tin foil and scrubbed the inside of the spigot. Seemed to make a huge difference. I still have about 10% that's not going through the shower but I'm okay with that compared to 70%.
