What Dr. Ellie is saying is true. I used to go to a hygienist every six months. Always have had tartar and plaque bad since childhood. I got gum disease, so my hygienist started doing this poke thing in my gums looking for pockets. After one of the poke tests, I got a salivary gland infection. Then some years later after a poke test I developed a fever with chills, doctors didn't know what was wrong. After another trip to the hygienist and another poke test my salivary gland again got infected, but this time it turned into cellulitis and I had to be hospitalized. I confronted the hygienist about it, but she denied it was anything she did. I stopped allowing the poke test. Then I found Dr. Ellie and her mouth care system. I've been doing it for 5 months now and for the first time in my life tartar and plaque are not building up on my teeth. My mouth is doing MUCH better. Thank you Dr. Ellie!

I'm having trouble sticking with the mouthwashes that she recommends the listerine and act . Have you found any without the dyes ?? They end with a number, being reading articles that they are very dangerous to health. I looking to find a mouthwash without alcohol, sorbitol and dyes and an activity rinse without sorbitol and dye. Sorbitol seems to be bad as well.

@@mibz1117 I have used listerine for years so that was not a problem for me, but was against fluoride for years. Dr. Ellie explained that its a small amount and that she uses "sodium" fluoride and not "stannous" fluoride which is the bad one. After the Act rinse I make sure to spit out as much as I can. Anyway, all the washes and toothpaste work together along with the xylitol. Its like a chemical reaction in your mouth. All I know is that it works and I am willing to take the chance on a few chemicals if I can save my teeth.

I have been listening to many interviews she has done and starting to follow a low oxalate diet, which may help the teeth also.

When I use it on the gentlest setting, I try to keep the stream of water away from my gums. Same when I use floss. I no longer go up into the gums and wrap the floss around my teeth like my dental professionals instructed. When I followed their directions, my gums looked horrible. I'm very grateful that through Dr Ellie's system they look so much healthier now and have come up nicely around my bottom teeth.

Excellent advice. My now retired dentist told me this years ago. High pressure can make pockets bigger by separating the gums from the tooth. That 90 degree flush will still get deep into the pockets without a lot of pressure. A nice gentle flush is all it needs. I add some tartar control to my WaterPic. It has made a positive difference for me. It may not work for everyone.

I used your system for the past 4 months and I just went in for my 6 month cleaning last week. Ok I asked the hygenist to describe how much tarter I had. She said "light" amounts. And I noticed that she scraped with the metal tool less than 1/10 as much as usual. She spent most of her time removing stains that had built up in some areas using a polisher tool. I think the stains were due to dead bacteria from your system as I've read in comments. Also, and most pleasant for me, I had absolutely no sore spots on my gums from the cleaning tools as I usually get every time. These sore spots/ infected areas usually happen between the molars top or bottom, and is very uncomfortable (painful) and can last more than a week. These are the main reason I was searching the internet when I found you. Thanks you so much. The pain is not there. Wow! BTW before I found Dr Ellie, I tried another dentists (a periodontist on line) suggestions to floss and water pick after every meal, a lot of work too. At the two cleanings after I was following his suggestions, I had more difficult cleanings, more tarter I think, and very sore gums after.

I also have been using DR. Ellie's system for about 6+ months now myself, and I also had a recent cleaning. To quote what you said: "And I noticed that she scraped with the metal tool less than 1/10 as much as usual. She spent most of her time removing stains that had built up in some areas using a polisher tool. I think the stains were due to dead bacteria from your system as I've read in comments." This was also my exact experience. I did a full array of x-rays, etc., because it was due and it's something my dental office does annually. The dentist said all of my x-rays, gums, soft tissue, etc. looked excellent. I haven't flossed since using Dr. Ellie's system, and during the cleaning there was no bleeding! I used to bleed profusely during historical cleanings, and I used to floss daily. I must say, her system 100% works. The only change I've made (for myself) to Dr. Ellie's system is that I also brush with xylitol crystals in combination with the basic toothpaste. That's the only change and I've only recently begun doing so. Why? No reason in particular, just something I'm personally experimenting with including.

Regarding bacteremia due to string flossing, a few years ago I ran across an article on pubmed that was of the New England Journal of Medicine case-history style (meaning that it was a post hoc analysis of just one subject's experience), concerning a lady who had started a program of vigorous flossing. A few months before, she had undergone knee joint replacement. Rather immediately subsequent to the onset of the vigorous flossing, her knee prosthesis began failing. Surgeons removed it (and presumably installed another one), and in the process they scraped the deposits from the bone inside the hole that they had drilled to house the implant. Upon analysis... mouth bacteria were found, of the pathological kind.

You can get the article for free (type the title in Google Scholar) and just skim the abstract and introduction. Evidently it's now well understood that poor oral health can lead to problems with prostheses, with metal implants. The bacteria get into the bloodstream at the gums, if they are abused (as with misapplied string floss) and infected.

Dr Ellie, can I replace the closys with ozonated water ? My understanding is that closys is best used in an acidic environment with your saliva to form oxygen which later kills all the bad germs and bacteria in the mouth. With ozonated water, the killing of bacteria and germs is made possible too. I can even fill my waterpik with ozonated water and floss the problem area. I live in Australia and Closys is just too expensive to sustain over a long term. 3 bottles cost more than a A$100 and last a few months, 5 maybe if I used it sparingly. The ozonated water that are recommend by periodontist is BIOSURE OZONATED TUMBLER which cost around A$500 and can use it for approximately 2 years if you make 6 full size 150 ml every day for 2 years. If the concern is that we cannot brush our teeth immediately after eating, I can just use xylitol and wait for an hour to start Dr Ellie 5 step protoccol after meal. Please advice as my closys is running out and I need to order again or just buy a BIOSURE OZONATED TUMBLER to continue with your protoccol. Thank you.

The Salon Life and nail anatomy scientist Doug Schoon are educating the nail tech industry on this. The "cuticle" is the adheisive that binds the nail plate to the proximal nail fold to protect your fingers from bacteria. @@lizabetx483Yes, replaced the Crest. BE CAREFUL though as Closys has 2 different toothpastes and only one of them has the proper amount of fluoride. The other is 1/2 strength. I also replaced the final rinse because the recommended one turned my teeth black and because they are cracked and chipped etc the hygienist could not polish all of it off. I looked like Halloween for several months! Closys also has a mouthwash with the right amount of fluoride for the final with no bleach and no whiteners but does not contain cetylpyridinium chloride which is what causes the black stain. Supposed to be dead bacteria. Anyhoo, it's been about 8 months and I have more gum coverage of exposed roots, the exposed part has turned pale and some translucent white instead of the yellow/brown it was. Temperature sensitivity is gone. And a one small black cavity starting to form is now mostly white and slowly filling in, and not "soft" the way it was I do use water flosser because I get huge chunks of fibrous veg and also meat stuck under the gums in one area and that is the only way to get it out other than let it rot until it falls out. That area I think was caused by oxalate crystals when I went on low oxalate diet and my body started "dumping" stored oxalate.

Hi Dr. Ellie! I love your complete system, and I've been using it about 6 months now. I saw a tremendous change in gum sensitivity and bleeding after 2-3 months. I added a water flosser, warm water, and I do find it helps dislodge small particles which are missed on brushing. Since you suggested string flossing after (with) toothpaste, I positioned the water flosser after brushing. More recently, I thought it would be clever to water floss after the Listerine rinse (before using ACT), as I figured it could help reduce the acidity before adding ACT, while perhaps pushing the antibacterial Listerine between the teeth (similar to your suggestion of string flossing with toothpaste?). Good idea? Or am I missing something?

Hi Dr. Ellie! I have been using your system for almost a week now and have a question regarding cleaning of the tongue. Previously, I used a tongue scraper, as I’ve always had a white film on my tongue. Will your complete care system get rid of this film over time or should I continue using a tongue scraper?

I'm concerned about the tingling pain when using a water flosser and it's ripping the gums loose from the teeth, does that get repaired naturally? After you use it a while you don't notice that anymore since all your gums are just flapping in the wind😅

I have been following your Complete Mouth Care System and it is clear to me that I have way less plaque build up than I usually do by this time before another 6 month cleaning appointment. (I have one scheduled for next mont.) I am so pleased! Thank youu, Dr. Ellie! I did have one problem, however. After about 3 months of following your system, I noticed my teeth were becoming badly stained in between each tooth. This has never occurred before and I was baffled because I had less plaque build up. I did my best to research the problem and read that Cetylpyridinium Chloride can stain teeth brown for some people. The green Act Anticavity rinse recommended for the last rinse in your Complete Mouth Care System contains this ingredient. I stopped using Act Anticavity rinse and for the past two months I have used the Listerine Anticavity, Floridide rinse (light pinkish purple) instead for my last rinse. The staining immediatedly stopped becoming worse and now appears to be gradually getting lighter. I am thinking that my brushing with the toothbrushes you recommend are gently removing some of the staining. I suspect I will need the hygenist to polish the remaining staining to get rid of it. I wish I could still use the ActAnticavity rinse following the blue Listerine Cool Mint Antiseptic rinse like you recommend, but I can't because of the staining.

I, too, had the staining in between teeth. My 1st cleaning which was several months after starting Dr. Ellie’s cleaning I was a bit embarrassed by the quizzing of such abnormal (for me) stains on my teeth. I think I made up something to tell her like “drinking extra cups of coffee lately” just to get through the cleaning without too many questions haha. So after they cleaning I am still using the total mouthcare system and have noticed that the same kind of staining is about 80% less than what it was early on. I also think it may be the old plaque/dead bacteria syndrome that others have commented about. I will also institute the plan of using xylitol crystals to make a paste to remove staining in between my cleanings. Thank you to Dr. Ellie for helping us all. I think a good video would be one covering specifically this staining issue that a lot of newbies have in between our teeth when starting out. I believe it was briefly touched on in her book as well but would definitely appreciate a great video from her.

Thank you@@prknride453for sharing your experience. My husband also had severe staining and felt very embarrassed by all the intense questioning by the hygenist when he went to his cleaning appointment after following Dr. Ellie's system. The staining was also abnormal for him and the hygenist kept asking him what he was doing differently. He said he really didn't know because he was caught off guard by all the demanding quizzing, and didn't want to say he was doing everything differently. You are brave to keep using the same final rinse, knowing you might get more quizzing at your next cleaning. I am open to going back to the ACT, if Dr. Ellie said that is what I should do, but I do not want to go through what my husband did. If I could remove the stains myself by using zylitol crystals and Dr. Ellie suggested that too, I would do that. I appreciate Dr. Ellie very much. I will be interested to know if the staining you get eventually totally stops.
