Water Bottle Holster mod - EXO MTN Gear K3 Pack

Have you ever found yourself wishing you had an option for the EXO Mountain Gear K3 pack to run a water bottle holster? If you are anything like me you have and as a result I came up with a simple idea to accomplish this. This is a simple and effective workaround to add a water bottle holster to your K3 pack, or any other pack really, that places the bottle in the best location that gives you quick easy access yet is cleverly out of the way and in a spot that transfers the weight directly to your hips. The added weight of the water is almost unnoticed when placed in this location and has been a game changer for someone like me who doesn’t like pulling water through a straw all day with a water bladder or digging through my pack to find my Nalgene bottle. It’s super simple and is a very inexpensive project to try for yourself. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Thanks for watching.

Interesting. Looks like it will be more than adequate for hiking/ camping/ adventuring. I picked up a couple pf slimline GP pouches from ATS Tactical for the same use. They are fully enclosed and suit my needs, an open top pouch is where Murphy's Law comes into effect.

I like it! In the end it boils down to personal preference. Dialing in the system that works best for what you do and who you are is a fun process. Thanks for watching!

How is this preferable to a camelback bladder? I don't want that much bulk/weight swinging around on my hip belt...the weight of the water should be high up in the backpack and close to your spine...you know...like where a camelback bladder normally sits.

I’m not sure what to tell you other than…... I’ve run a water bladder for many years and never liked them but just used them because that’s what everyone did and I just delt with it. I honestly will never go back to a bladder after going this route. I agree with you on wanting weight high and tight but I seriously don’t notice the weight when placed where they are and they aren’t swinging around on my setup so that’s not an issue. In the end I just prefer drinking out of a glass rather than a hose I guess. The only complaint I have with the bottles is the noise the water makes when it’s sloshing around. This can become an issue while hunting and trying to slip in quietly. The way you can pull all the air out of a bladder from the start is an advantage. This doesn’t allow the water to slosh around in the bladder. Removing the air from the start and always sucking the water out means you never have an air gap in the reservoir for the water to slosh around in. That’s my only complaint. I guess in the end I’m not saying this is for everyone but for me it is. I won’t be going back to a bladder. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

@@Ryan_Erkkila Yeah, I'd prefer to drink out of a glass as well...but given the dynamic physical nature of hiking/hunting I accept that compromises need to be made for the sake of practicality.
