Kinda late here but I think it's a cool fact: Tigress came from a orphanage where every one feared her for her tiger strength, until Shifu adopted her and tought her how to control her strength. This actually explains why she sympathises so much with Po wanting to know about his real parents.

I read that Shen actually didn't want to take over China and knew that it wouldn't bring him happiness or satisfaction but at that point, he had committed so much atrocities that he felt as though he had to finish what he started. He wants to conquer China not because he thinks it will make him happy, but rather because he's in so deep that there's just no point in turning back. 3. Also, back in the first movie, when going over the whole Dragon Warrior dream, Ping mentioned dreaming about making tofu but passed it off as just a stupid dream. Po becoming the Dragon Warrior gave Ping the inspiration to make his dream real too and started making tofu himself.

19:22 I know this is just a funny commentary but I thought I would explain this moment, because it's one of my favorite moments in the movie. Shen heard a prophecy that a panda would be his downfall, so in an effort to avoid his fate he killed 'all' the pandas. Of course this set off a domino effect that led to the very fate he was trying to avoid. The reason he doesn't run from the cannon falling is because while he may not be reformed, in the end he accepted his death. This aligns not only with what Oogway said in the first film "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it." but the classic folklore/mythology trope of the Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. If anyone wants a more in depth analysis of these movies, specifically the first and second, I recommend watching Xiran Jay Zhao's video about it which talk about the movies from not only a writing perspective but a philosophical perspective

It might not be immediately obvious but this trilogy has a specific two themes that each movie covers, and they do it incredibly well, too-present past and future, body mind and spirit The first movie was present and body, the here and now of Po becoming the Dragon Warrior even though he looks and acts as he does, and why that doesn’t matter to prove he is the Dragon Warrior The second movie is past and mind, Po accepting where he came from, who he is to himself and his father, without letting it cloud his path, even as Shen has completely succumbed to “I’ve come too far, gone too far, my parents hated me, this is the end” The third movie is future and spirit, which I won’t say anything on to avoid potential spoilers

If you watch this movie and just look at Po and Tigress and how close they've gotten it's absolutely crazy. Kung Fu Panda 2 spawned so much Po x Tigress material that it damn near defined an entire generation and was the biggest internet ship for a long time. And I can't really blame people for thinking that. For example, right before the scene where ya'll mentioned that they took no fall damage Tigress and Po duo climbed the building then during the fall towards the roofs, she catches and tosses him.

  • @Montesama314

One of the subtle ways the trilogy indicated the change in their relationship and the advancement of Po's skills was in PO and Tigress's fight encounters with each other. In KFP1, she laid him out with ease in Po's early tests against the Five. Here in part 2, Tigress can still easily redirect his attacks while they're at that prison where Croc and Ox are, even though he's stronger. But by part 3, they have a practice spar while they're talking about how to beat Kai, and while she does ultimately beat him, they're remarkably in sync the whole time, almost like a dance. They just GET each other now. If there is a part 4, I'd love to see how the movie builds on that (they become co-teachers, he actually wins a fight against her, the ship actually sailing, who knows).

In the first movie she felt underrated. She had been training her whole life knowing she was the most likely to be the dragon warrior, and when it came to happen, everyone expected it to be her. When it wasnt she had an internal conflict not only because she apparently wasnt "good enough" but because who got the role was someone who didnt have to go through the hard life she had, someone who had 0 skill at that time and who barely knew and cared about how serious kung fu is. Doesnt mean she wanted him dead, she was in denial because she totally disagreed with the choices that were made. But once she got to know him, and see his worth even if he needed training, she started to respect him and eventually become his friend, a very good friend actually. She has always been good, not like Tai Lung. She was misleaded like him to think she would be the dragon warrior, but her differences from Tai Lung led to a very different result. A really nice character development we dont see in the other furious five in this movie or the third one

I always say, Shen broke something in me when I was a child XD. Of course there are so many kid movies that show tragical or sad moments, but what Shen did was something that I felt showed me the cruelty of what a person who desperately wants power can do. It was horrible, it felt true, how can you aim for something like that and destroy everything someone can call home? To me, Kung fu Panda 2 is my favorite out of all the movies in the trilogy

Lord Shen is my favorite Dreamworks villian. His whole character is just brilliant. Not having the love of his parents, he pursued on his goal to commit atrocities and genocide across China. I think even he knew he was too far gone and knew this wouldn't bring him any happiness or satisfaction but he also knew there was no turning back so that's why he continued on his whole conquest of China. He just couldn't find his inner peace. That's why he accepted his death at the very end, closing his eyes so that he may be punished for his sins and hopefully find some inner peace in the afterlife. That's how I see Shen as a villian.

Shen is ny favourite villain, and probably one of the best cinematography ones, because he is literally the opposite of Po and the message of the movie. The movie is about letting go, going with the flow and understanding that the past stays there, in the past, Po learns this through the movie, he fights his trauma and moves forward. Meanwhile, Shen can't let go, he is remembering and focusing on a prophexy he learned a long time ago, and decides to do EVERYTHING to stop it.
