@@SophieLents In fact little theory is that when Manny met Sid Manny was at the edge of a really tall cliff he was planning on jumping but of course Sid stopped that. Also, I definitely recommend watching the rest of the movies, they get better and better. Also I just realized while watching this that the museum bit in a way also set up the sequels like they were sneak peeks.

20:16 Elephants have been said to be the most emotional animals on the planet. Only next to humans. They cry, show visible happiness, and even grieve and continually visit their dead. Even tho this is a children’s movie, Manny’s emotions in this scene wouldn’t have been far off from the truth since mammoth’s are so closely related to modern day elephants. Very heartbreaking knowing these creatures went through these tragedies and their descendants still go through them to this day.

@@SophieLents It's really a shame that they have. It's definitely worth it! PS: The animation does get much better in the sequels.

I just really really love this movie, it's a pleasure to see someone reacting to it! For me, it's a formative movie (it released when I was 10/11, so it ended up becoming one of my favourites) and I just love everything about it. Unlike the other movies, it's a drama/comedy, with more drama than comedy tbh, and it's gorgeous. The animation is gorgeous (imo, even tho it's dated now) and the characters are gorgeous and have development (minus Sid, who is a static character and has no real arc or growth in this movie OR the sequels) and I just wish more people would love/appreciate it more. It deserves more recognition! It was even nominated for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar the year it released! So anyway it makes me so happy to see you enjoying this movie it's wonderful so wonderful in my opinion. :)

12,900 years ago a comet broke into an unknown number of pieces. The main body hit the Earth (Hiawatha crater) but other smaller pieces left no crater because they slammed into a mile thick ice sheet or they exploded like the Chelyabinsk asteroid (2008) causing massive wildfires and/or earthquakes-which set off volcanoes. This event is called the "Younger Dryas" event. Among other things, it killed off 95% of the human race and the mammoths as well as the other megafauna-like the saber tooth tiger, giant sloth and wooly rhinoceros. The deep freeze following the Younger Dryas lasted 1,300 years and we're still recovering from that. The truly scary thing about this is that it could easily happen again and we are very much unprepared.

Although the sequels didn't do much for me, i prefer Ice Age to most of the Pixar movies just because it has a slightly more adult adge to both the story and the comedy. The shot where the mother is just gone after entrusting the baby to Manny still gives me chills. Also, the first teaser for Ice Age was simply a slightly altered version of the opening scene with Scrat the squirrel. I can't even remember which movie i was about to watch when i saw it. I just remember the whole cinema laughing their heads off. 😆

I've never noticed the similarities between Ice Age & Shrek characters before lol, i.e: * *Manny / Shrek* - very large - initially thought to be last of their kind - prefer being alone (at first) * *Sid / Donkey* - saved by the big guy & follows him around - comic relief - annoys the big guy * *Diego / Puss in Boots* - tough guy - initially an assassin on a mission - finds a family, etc

If you think about it, Soto wanted Diego to die, especially if the baby didn't make it, since he explicitly wants it alive because Diego is a threat to him as the leader of the pack. Hence why he didn't really try to convince Diego to not defend Manny when he stood up to him and just wanted to kill him first.
