Dreamgirls is a 2006 American musical drama film written and directed by Bill Condon. The film adaptation features an ensemble cast, starring Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles and Eddie Murphy with Jennifer Hudson, Danny Glover, Anika Noni Rose and Keith Robinson in supporting roles. In addition to the original compositions by composer Henry Krieger and lyricist/librettist Tom Eyen, four new songs, composed by Krieger with various lyricists, were added for the film.[7] The film marks the acting debut of Hudson, a former American Idol contestant.

    one of the reasons why i really felt bad for Deena is because she was basically told by a lot of people (including Effie at times) that she was only successful because of her beauty, that she didnt have a lot of talent, but Deena definitely had a beautiful voice. They all did, just different types of voices. When it comes to their voices' i think Effie's is more soulful, Deena's is more angelic and sultry, and Lorrell's is more grounded and warm (i hope that makes sense). Their voices are different, but doesnt make any of them lesser than the other

    I agree with everything u said, their voices are beautiful in their different ways, Deena has the grace of a queen. Beauty, voice and sophisticated. Efie has that African full voice and domineering while Anika is so lovely and soulful.

    I could give a less of a shit about Beyoncé in this movie😒. Is there no girl code? Just going to slide up in there and yank Effie’s man away from her because you think you’re all beautiful and all that?

  • @mckenziebreslin

    @mckenziebreslin

    5 күн бұрын

    Beyoncé was not it for me in this movie. For her to snatch Effie’s man, not that he belongs to anyone and is property but to break girl code flaunting around how much better and prettier than Effie she is was so unattractive to me as a friend. Not like the other unmemorable friend did anything to stop the mistreatment and state her mind, hiding behind Beyoncé the entire time🙄

  • @aaliyahbrown5739
    @aaliyahbrown5739 Жыл бұрын

    all these girls deserved so much better, especially Effie and Deena. Both were played for fools. Effie got kicked to the curb because of the way she looked and Deena became Curtis's puppet, and she was so sweet🥺 what hurts is that this was the reality for a lot of singers, especially black ones, back then

  • @truthseeker9249

    And Berry Gordy had the nerve to be offended by this movie. Saying that it made him look bad and made it seem like a black man can't be successful on his own and has to turn to criminal/shady sh*t and stab people in the back to get ahead. Which....isn't all that wrong for him. Sure Berry never did payola or anything criminal, not that I'm aware of. But he definitely did some things he shouldn't have. Diana slept her way to the top, no matter how you slice it. His affair with her and the blatant favortism was wrong.

    Unpopular opinion but Effie contributed to her undoing. From the first scene, she was already a diva. She showed up late for their talent audition, that’s a red flag. She already saw herself as the leader because she had “The Voice”, so the girls deferred to what she wanted. When Curtis made Deena the lead, she was quick to talk down on Deena’s singing ability; she wasn’t a friend but a bully. She thought because she was with Curtis everything would go her way: she can sing, her man is the manager, and her brother was their songwriter. She was not happy being in the background. Prior to us, the audience, finding out she was pregnant, she already cemented herself as a diva and unprofessional. Her storming off the video set, singing louder than Deena during recording, lets say she wanted to go solo, I don’t see other producers wanting to work with her. Show business is not only about talent but reputation. People are willing to do a lot more for you, if you’re pleasant to work with. All the people that are working with them are noticing the behavior. They might not have a direct say in how things work, but a whisper here or a whisper there can definitely cause problems. When she had to go back to Detroit, it humbled her big and I think she needed it. Though Curtis played the hell out of her, not excusing him at all. He is the villain. I don’t think Effie was ready for solo fame at THAT moment. If she had been lead singer with the attitude she already had, the disregard for other people’s time, Dream Girls as a group wouldn’t have made it far at all.

Cuz they showed Effie protecting her w the guy touching Dina's butt, but then u realize that moment, and when she refuses to sing lead, at 1st, and even dumb herself down, how vulnerable and "soft" she was. All Curtis gad to do was spin game on her n control her. But then those same moments show how much Effie was there for her and even she knew it. We can blame Curtis bc if they added a few more scenes of either Dina&Curtis 101 or Effie & Dina 101, we would see who's more at fault

    Yessssssss u brought up the destiny child reference 20:25 cause when I watch this as child I saw it to. But I was so happy that my Hudson got the Grammy cause she came from American idol and her entire soul felt this movie. My favorite musical and I don’t like musicals either

    Nice , this one is a classic with a great cast, if someone tries to say anything negative about this one, I am telling im not going, ok I should probably be done with words for the day, enough of my nonsense, I anticipated this reaction
