I'm in Illinois, so I think mine is... less? It was worse as a kid, because my mom absolutely talks like a hillbilly. She appropriate says "warsh" instead of "wash." But my accent slips out when I talk to my family, according to friends. And sometimes random words or sentences will come out with an accent, and the squad drags me bc "what the fuck was that?"

I think it’s kind of like code switching, which is when people who speak more than language unconsciously switch back and forth between languages, but not really code switching. It happens to me sometimes too. I’m Filipino, and if I’m talking to somebody who’s Filipino, but they’re speaking in English with an accent, my Filipino accent starts bubbling up to the surface. So yeah...it’s not technically code switching, but sort of like it.

It's based in the psychological ideas of convergence/accommodation. Basically, you're an empathetic person who is subconsciously trying to connect with and engage with another person!
