FIRST THING I NOTICED! We had to arrive at school with our brushes already cleaned and they checked them before we started class... like WHATTTT

This is a front shop for something else. That wasn’t a make-up artist and she was using her private make-up. They went to grab their own make-up and brushes. This is crustal clear and there is no doubt about this shop being more than shady. Instead of getting frustrated, I would have stayed till the end and try to document it the best I could, ask questions and go to the police later. I would also show the video to the health department. Of course it is a scam, it’s not what they say they are. Even the worst makeup artist has at least makeup and brushes there.

That's a front for human trafficking if i ever seen one, the fact they weren't expecting someone wanting to get an actual makeup look to the point they had to WATCH A TUTORIAL because they just aren't actual makeup professionals and only have some makeup bought specifically in case someone actually does come for a makeup appointment, all the men in the room and just all around in general, all the whispering, the paying upfront

I once had a lady with only half her haircut come to me crying to fix and finish cutting her hair because the Salon she was at previously was making fun of her while she was in their chair! She was so appreciative of what I did for her. Customer Service skills are a must in the hair and makeup industry! Return customer’s are what keeps us in business!

Her brushes were NOT clean. She used DIRTY brushes on you. When she opened her “makeup brushes” none of them were clean. That would have made me walk. The very first rule in professional makeup is to start with clean brushes, you have no idea who she has used those on, where and what they touched. She literally could have passed staph infection, conjunctivitis and a slew of other things just with her brushes. You are more patient than me.

Glad you do share these experiences because it exposes them, and they deserve it for the things they openly, LOUDLY, said about clients in the presence of another client.

The reason they made you pay first is so you couldn't just leave. It means they can f around, be 40mins late and treat you awfully because you've already given them money so they don't care.

Possibly. I used to do hair and makeup for years before I changed career. Never in my professional career as a cosmetologist have I witnessed a client pay in advance though. Anyone who goes into a salon and asked this should immediately leave.

Between the state of the brushes/tools/makeup and lack of hygiene, to the unprofessional behaviour and mess she made on this girl's face, I was utterly horrified! Imagine if someone booked her for their actual wedding, without a trial first! 😳 I used to do makeup/makeovers and wedding makeup, and I'd never treat any client like that!

@@Vinva1 it's a lot harder to get a refund then it is to refuse to pay. It can be a fight to get the refund with a strong chance they won't even give it to you. Because... why would they? They don't care about customer retention. They just want the money. Its disgusting

Oh yeah could be. There are barber shops and retail stores all over my neighborhood in the Bronx with clients who are not there for clothing alone. And they won’t be and are not welcoming. They don’t want clients. Or need them...if you are laundering money for drugs you don’t have to be fully operational. That’s probably why they didn’t have makeup in stock.

My exact thought

I was taught how to do makeup in cosmetology school in 1988-1989. I was raised by my grandmother who never taught me how to use makeup so I was grateful to learn the correct way. That being said, I have always hated foundation because of how heavy it feels on my face. So most of my life has been very minimal makeup. Then I had a very traumatic event and stopped wearing all makeup for almost 20 years. Fast forward to 2023, my daughter’s best friend was getting married and I was honored as a mother #2 in her life. So, now I have to get makeup for the wedding because mine is old and crusty… Talking to my daughter and watching many videos on makeup I realized the very procedure for applying makeup was completely different. So I watched and bought way more makeup than I’ll use in a lifetime. All that being said, the basic principles of applying makeup are the same. I thought I did a really good job and I looked nice. Now I’ve stumbled upon you… poor poor suffering you! I cannot fathom what these people were thinking. I am no longer in the work force, but I cannot help wanting to reach though the tv and slap these people! And the cost is way too much for what their results are. So, if you are ever in California, swing by and I’ll do your makeup for free♥️ You’re a beautiful girl inside and out and deserve to be treated respectfully.

They make you pay first cause they know people would storm out in anger after the disaster 😭

That “salon” is probably just a money laundering operation. No one there seems interested in makeup or even knows how to do it. They’re just people hired by the owner to be in the store so it looks legit. That’s my suspicion anyway

I thought that too. A lot of store fronts are actually cover ups to running things like human trafficking rings. They’re everywhere.

I would have kicked up such a scene that they would have made me a meme. Karen's would be old news and Claire's would be taking over🤣. I just can't get over the state of those brushes. I just spent two hours cleaning all my brushes today, as a 'professional' you have no excuse.

I’ve gotten my hair completely chopped off, washed conditioned, baby dreadlocs and put under a hair dryer in almost the same amount of time. One side of her face is completely darker from the foundation to the eyeshadow. And how did they not have any lipstick there?? I wonder how that “business” has been there and if they are still there. Watching this 2 years after it was posted.

As a ghost I also relate to not finding the right shade, but that is beyond human understanding.

As a human being, this is horrifying. As a makeup artist, this is unforgivable. Yikes!

Besides waiting a long time, my impatient ass would have left after 30 minutes, but the major red flag is she didn’t even put a protective cape around to protect the clothing. That’s just standard practice in any salon very first thing you’re supposed to do. I know because I was a make up artist and hairdresser for 25 years.… And the badmouthing other customers is an absolute no-no. The unprofessionalism is astounding.

What a good brother Rebal is, he really had your back. I’m glad he was with you, who knows what could’ve happened if you came alone and weren’t filming. This was probably them on their “best” behavior.

At this point, you should definitely tell everyone the name of the salon. This is just...

TBF real art brushes can be even better! Art brushes are meant to apply the product with deliberate strokes and specific outcome. Makeup is the same. You'd obviously need to choose carefully. But the filbert brush is actually a classic staple of any artists kit, including many pro makeup artists -- a lot of pro mua brush brands have filbert brushes in their product line. I doubt this lady's lesser-seen brush choice for brows was a deliberate artistic deviation tho. Lol...

I would have never even gotten that far and sat down to begin with. Making you pay beforehand so they can put dirty, old ugly ass makeup on your beautiful face and basically make you look like someone from Jersey Shore.
