Watches In The Wild | The Road Through America, Ep. 4: California Collecting Culture Part II

Ойын-сауық

For the final episode of Watches in the Wild: The Road Through America, Cole and James are leaving Los Angeles in the rear view and heading up the coast. They're after a bit of adventure, some killer views, and a chance to hang with a handful of collectors who represent the breadth and personality of West Coast watch culture.
We hope you've enjoyed The Road Through America as much as we enjoyed making it. The goal was to discover the heart of the current zeitgeist surrounding watch collecting on America's two often disparate coasts. From the old-world vibes of the Northeast, where watchmaking in America first took hold to the casual and sun-soaked coast of California, we discovered an endless appetite for all things watches and a deeply-seated understanding of the role watches play in American culture old and new.

René Rondeau is a gem. Not only with his depth of knowledge, fine service, but also in holding many a neophyte hand as they braved the unknown. I have several Electrics and am truly grateful for René's kindness along the path.

Well. This was truely a great experience for me. We can never forget where we came from. In todays throw away society and the mentality of many it’s content like this that makes me think we’ll get back to being people that appreciate local manufacturing and what it means to be able to service/repair and retain rather than replace. Great jarrrb here Hodinkee.

I wouldn't call it across America so much as on the edges of America. I really liked the miniseries but would love to see it dive into watch culture across all of America and also dip into some of the less haughty upstart brands like Nodus, Vaer, Lorier, Shinola, Detroit Watch Co., etc. I find the heavy hitters like RGM fascinating but we as "watchers" really bite off on the stories behind our favorite pieces whether they be stories from the brands or stories from badasses like Asha who wear them. The watches are about art for sure, but the art is about the stories of the people who make them and make memories with them in the wild.

Triple Aught Design did NOT make those watches. The Professional is made by sangin instruments out of Roseville CA. TAD simply puts their logos on watches in a collaboration. Such a shame to say TAD made it.
