    Travis, I am a horse handicapper who has been watching races for over 25 years....I can say that you rank right up there with the top race callers. Your calls are always clear, concise, and accurate. Trevor Denman, Tom Durkin, and Kurt Becker have always been, in my book, the top 3callers in the last 30 years...I now must add Travis Stone to this list of greatness.

    @Jame Bailey, I remember that too. She could have been the first filly to win the Triple Crown. The stewards did nothing. Even so, there was so much more on the line by disqualifying Maximum Security. He could have caused a tragedy that permanently scared the Kentucky Derby and all of horse racing.

  • @Yellowjjacket
    @Yellowjjacket5 жыл бұрын

    *The stewards made the correct decision to disqualify Maximum Security. Not only did he impede two horses he created a situation that could have ended tragically if the horses he blocked clipped heals and went down. Horses could have broken their legs and jockeys injured or killed had Maximum Security caused a spill. It's the trainers fault that the horse did not have ear plugs in and went wide because he was "afraid" of the crowd. This was the Kentucky Derby, not some Grade 3 race. Horseracing has been under intense scrutiny since the deaths of horses at Santa Anita. Some of the blame lies with the jockey for not controlling his horse and thinking he could get away with the horse veering so far out into other horses lanes. I have watched the Kentucky Derby every year for a long time. There were other times when inquiries had been lodged, but the mentality was that you just don't "disqualify a horse in the most famous race on the planet." Simply put racing has got to make changes and hold people accountable. It's certainly not the horses fault. But again, had a horse fallen and caused a tragic chain reaction in the Kentucky Derby, people would not be making jokes about it. They would be talking about the tragedy at the 2019 Kentucky Derby. Horseracing cannot afford much more bad publicity after the tragedies at Santa Anita. Useless PETA tried to get people to boycott the Santa Anita Derby. They even went to Nancy Pelosi to try and get racing banned in California. If you watched the race in slow motion you would certainly see just how precarious things were because of what Maximum Security did. The stewards not only did the right thing for the Kentucky Derby by taking a stand against tradition; they also showed the people who think horseracing is wrong and cruel that people involved in horseracing do care about the horses. They made the right decision.*

    @@cubnation There were eight horses in the race where the announcer acknowledged bumping down stretch. Durkin did mention how tight it got in the '84 BC Classic didn't he? No such comments from Stone in '19 KY Derby.

    I disagree.. I agreed with you yesterday but today, after further review, M.S. came out of his lane twice coming out of the final turn, bumping 2 racers.. anyone that knows anything about horse racing should clearly see the foul and would be unfair to allow him to be crowned I.M.O.

    Let me get this straight... an announcer who has been announcing the KD for a long time misses the Maximum Security breach (pun intended) and says nothing while announcing? Has anyone one watched a football announcer notice an unusual or amazing play and goes bezerk on air? This guy kept his cool? I am sorry, but when something that has never happened in the history of any sporting event just happens, it is not a coincidence. The fact Travis Stone did not flip out when calling the race tells me he knew it was coming. No different than a referee in football standing in front of an obvious penalty call and doesn't make it. All these things are already set up and planned. These jockeys know what they are doing and control the horse with every move and motion they make. A total set up.
