Amazing mind the bird

Have met Bird twice....at his home in Roswell and 2 years ago at Ruidoso Downs, celebrating the 10th anniversary of his win!

The perfect ride. The way Calvin came back to the rail after the move to the middle to pass the one horse took guts and a believe that the horse would get through amazes me every time I see this

When the horses came out from the stall, the announcer not even mention MineThat Bird!!

Im from Lone Oak Texas and ride horses for Mark Allen in a Ranch called HV Ranch and i get to wake uk every morning and see Mine That Bird grazing the pasture with his best friend which is a miniature pony called Thunder hes such a kind gentle horse with such a personality and Mark Allen is such a nice person he gifted my father the original Mine That Bird Winning Picture that the owner gets

Brought me to tears this morning. This needs to be a movie! Calvin, you are a superhero. What a ride!! I dont even know what else to say except, Mom and Dad were watching

I just LOVE seeing that jockey so freaking HAPPY!

I LOVE that they got it!!!! & Mine That Bird!!!! WOW! I remember the sweet emotion & exhilaration of Calvin & I just thought it was perfect that Calvin got a win like that. That was an amazing race. Can't even imagine the high he felt...although he communicated it very well!

This is without a doubt the greatest Kentucky Derby winning run in history. Going around the last turn he passed all the others like they were standing still. And...........at. 50-1

I just love it when the underdog comes in and teaches the others.....that nothing's a sure thing....and money doesn't always rule the outcome.

As a Kentucky Derby tradition i play this race every year just to see, and feel calvins energy, and all the love the croud had for him. Calvin Made even the losers happy that day. CLASSIC.

I never get tired of watching MTB's win

Mine That Bird was the Canadian 2 year old champion Horse of the Year. Obviously, he could run.

Unbelievable amazing horse race! Calvin made perfect maneuvers coming across the field to the inside and he found that gorgeous horse an opening and let him run. Mine that Bird didn’t just run, he left the pack with nothing but his prints behind him! I love it!!

Welcome Mary Garrett...Of all the classic triple crown races of all time i would rank "Bird's" derby run 2nd , only to Secretariats 31 length romp in the Belmont stakes. And both in my lifetime. And if he didnt have to go 6-7 wide leaving the far turn he would have beaten Rachael Alexander in the Preakness which she won by 3/4 of a length over "the bird". Many times the best horses dont win.

And watch that MTB in the post parade and gate loading. He is so calm. So many horses were worked up and agitated. He could be saying, 'what's the big fuss, guys? Geez, it's just another race. Now let's get out there and run. Let's get this party started!'

I so remember this race. I was, as I so frequently as, landscaping--weeding I believing, on my knees as was 100% the correct thing!--and I thought, what a name. Then, WHAT A HORSE!!! Not sure why he was such a longshot, he has a magnificent bloodline and 4 wins. I guess it was his pricetag? But 2nd-longest longshot in Derby history! I later lived just two blocks up from the Roscoe Goose house, which Goose built after winning at the LONGEST odds, 91-1, on Donerail. Louisville, Louisville, Louisville. My heart's happiest home. So funny, the callers didn't even notice the lowly "8 horse" when they were saddling up

Mind that bird vs Rich Strike…. For sure two of the best moments in racing and maybe sports.

Tom Durkin, one of the great race callers in history. I thought it was fitting.

He was my favorite jockey before this race and he just wowed me in this race !

Best story of a racehorse after Secretariat! Calvin "Bo Rail" is an amazing jockey. I know what they go thru to keep their weight down. He couldn't do it anymore. Love Calvin!

Announcer may have missed it but it suits MTB storyline nonetheless. The move to the inside, rubbing the rail, and then full throttle thru the pack. Best derby I’ve watched, then again I wasn’t alive for Secretariats reign. Only thing I wish is @14:17 instead of saying Pioneer of the Nile the announcer yelled out MTB. Ah well

They didn't even mention MTB when he was coming out of the paddock at 00:33

Well Mine That Bird certainly lives at his owner's ranch in New Mexico, but he definitely doesn't "stand" there considering that he is a gelding, and therefore cannot stand at stud.

Saw him at his home and then again 2 years ago on the 10th anniversary of his 2009 win ...Ruidoso Downs! Have pictures of him with me from both visits!

I recognize a lot of the horses that subsequently ran in the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic and lost to Zenyatta. Interesting that a turf horse, Gio Ponti, came in 2nd. A horse from Great Britain, Twice Over, came in third. What does that say about the American 3 y/o colts that year? Rachel Alexandra won the Preakness over Mine That Bird. Year of the underdog and the ladies. A great year!

Calvin reminds me of Sepuveda in the star wars movies. Unbelievable ride.

I’ll never forget this Derby, with Borel up the rail in a complete mud bowl. Awful result for me as I didn’t even consider Mine That Bird. No one really did. RIP Garrett Gomez.

He had a lot of horse. MTB looked fresh as a daisy parading around after the race.

The announcer completely missed MineThatBird's charge along the rail --- into the lead --- while he was busy naming all the horses who were NOT on the lead anymore and then seemed to stumble upon the reality of who had won!

Rich strike is another upset we had seen

It is and will be the worst commented horse race in the world. We all have a bad day once in a while. This was an excellent example and how many people shouted that day. See Mine That Bird your .... (censorship). I cheered like crazy that day in 2009 - I love when the little ones smash all the wise ones!

One of the worst calls bc he missed his whole move only bc he was trained by a nobody to outsiders of the track is what i mn bc ive heard them talk bout lukas baffert pletcher longshots like they were legit plus he was laughing at the end just disrespectful oh and btw mtb was a underrated 3yr old second to Rachael in preakness and a bad ride great 3rd in belmont

Mine That Bird was running before one horse going into the last turn....and won so easy. Calvin what are you doing....lifted? It seems like he was running about 50 lengths behind.

Hey what’s that horse that just burned by the pack and is 2-3 in front…..never mind him, let’s talk about the other 3 for a bit longer.

I don't know who called the race (I assume it is his regular job), but he is just lousy at it. He didn't even see Mine That Bird making his move down the stretch or even taking the lead because he was too busy announcing who was running in 19th place. Watching that horse weave through heavy traffic then hug the rail before breaking out and waving bye-bye was the most exciting part of the race and he called only the last 60 yards of it. Pitiful performance unworthy of such a great race.

They didn't even mention Mine that Bird
