Watch This Before Your First Day On Set

Фильм және анимация

These are a few things that I think are very important to keep in mind and be prepared for on your first few jobs. Add yours in the comments below because there are definitely more!
Do you like the new lighting setup? This set up is courtesy of a seasonally nice Melbourne day. It is temporary but I don't know, might make it a permanent thing then I'll use my studio lights when I have to film at night. Not sure.
Again, yes, talking heads videos. We are still in stage 4 restrictions for a little bit but once I am able to, I can go do some more stuff at a local rental house. Got a bunch of ideas!
Hope you got something from this video and if you have any ideas of things that you want to see in a video, leave a comment below and let me know!

Thanks the "don't hover" tip. I see the value in it. It's just as a student you want to learn more from looking at how more experienced crew members work which is one of the main reasons of volunteering as a student on a film.

😯yes I love your sweater!! Merch....? Stretch the morning of the shoot. Had a 1 day shoot the past week and took me 4 days to recover from my sore non-existent muscles 😆. Also, sleep more than you think you need because nerves will make you stay awake for awhile!

Great tips! I almost had a heart attack when I left a lens case unlocked and AC grabbed it. I don't know how, but it didn't open(lucky me). So I quickly approached to him and we locked it. Taking to account that he was a pretty moody AC, all he said was "Yeah, don't do that again". I think, that was the only one f'ck up I did for 18 hours shoot. 😅😅😅

Great tips, Felicia!! Just discovered your channel. Recently I’ve gotten more involved on the development side of things, but I do occasionally go on set and have held various positions on productions in the past. As someone who’s worked as a 1st AD, I appreciate you saying to read the call sheet!! Anyway, can’t wait to see what other videos you have coming up. :)

Do you think we have to buy our own slate as a 2nd AC or the production company should provide them?

  • @flickcine

Always best to buy your own. I've never been on a production where they've bought one for the shoot aside from indie shoots where the director may have owned a slate. 👍

You forgot to mention bringing your mask. 😉. 2:00 Care to talk more about your experience on sets shooting celluloid? I’m a masochist so I’m going to give it a go next year. Side note: I wish film photographers and film shooters shooting on film had shared language for distinguishing between the two. “On celluloid” works but not quite sure how popular that is. If I say “motion picture film” most people think cinema and stills shooters think Cinestill 800t.

  • @flickcine

Ah yes! Of course a mask! I've had very limited experience shooting on motion picture film. I loved it so much when I have used it (only done super 16) but over here it's a little less friendly on your wallet to shoot film so not a lot of people do it. It's been a while but I still remember how to load both Aaton XTR and Arri SR3. Oh man, trying to distinguish between stills and motion picture is difficult in conversation. I guess it comes down to context. "shooting on film" seems like a valid comment. Shooting on film for stills and for motion is so much fun and such an experience though.
