man, this is so cool! I live in Los Angeles and there’s hundreds of coffee shops here but actually roasting your beans seems fun and therapeutic. I bet that cup tastes even better knowing you roasted them

You should mod the popper with motor so that it can do the spinning by itself...spinning by hands for 10 mins is very exhausted😅
Very well done! Hey I am Mr. Pittsburgh Coffee, self proclaimed of course, but I never roasted my own! And you gave simple to the point instructions. Thank you very much for taking time to share and teach coffee roasting. I spend $$ and now can try a fresh and therapeutic way. From home. Ill find a popcorn maker like what you have in video. And you said you purchased a coffee roaster also? You are a great guy! Thanks again! Your friend from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania USA. "Pittsburgh Coffee"

Awesome
Would be neat to try this in an Actifry
Maybe the cool down would go faster in non aluminum pans? Great process thx for sharing
Hi Hoon! I was wondering, how much coffee do you put in at a time? Also I know you like to preheat to 375 but what power setting do you keep it on?
Use 2 colanders outside to lose chaff...it blows away
Thank you so much for the video! :) I can’t wait to try this! Question: did you do it outside because it sets off fire alarms? I don’t wanna set anything off haha

Yes I did
I think you need to drill holes on like d to prevent sweating
Thank you for this video. How long do you de-gas your freshly roasted beans. I’ve gotten very inconsistent espressos with newly medium roasted beans from my local roaster. I let the beans sit 10-14 days and the de-gasing stabilizes...

I drink it after 3 or 4 days later

What I've heard is that it varies depending on the roast, as well as the brewing method. The darker the roast, the more quickly it tends to degas; and slower brewing methods often cope better with "gassy" coffee. Assuming that's all true, it makes complete sense that a fresh medium roast wouldn't work too well for espresso. I think 10-14 days would actually be pretty normal for espresso beans.
Do you have to stir it so fast? I was reading on The Captain's Coffee to just do it slowly. Have you tried it slowly too?
Just curious, what were you talking about during the muted fast forwarded segment?

Not sure. So long ago!
How long it takes from 1st crack to 2nd crack? Should we stop once reaches the 2nd crack or wait until the 2nd crack is over, or in between 1st and 2nd crack?
@HoonsCoffee

Around 8min for 1st crack.
Hey hoon all those instructions can be used for all kinds of coffee?

Hey sir i dont get it why my beans isnt oily at all do you have any solution to this perhaps? 😀
@HoonsCoffee

Actually, I prefer medium roasted coffee than dark and oily beans. If you want oily beans just roasted little longer.

Keep in mind that dark oily beans get stale quicker because the oils are now on the outside of the bean exposed to the air. But if a darker, more roasty flavor is what you are aiming for, by all means go for it. Cheers!
Shame they make every single one of these popcorn makers out of aluminum. I use two push whisks and a thick bottom stainless steel pot instead. Not nearly as uniform, but no aluminum, either. I kind of like the lack of uniformity, actually. Gives it a very complex taste profile.

@@HoonsCoffee It's a bit pricey. At some point, I may upgrade, but I love this pot. I use it for everything. It's got the heat-storing capability of cast iron, but the corrosion-resistance of 304 stainless. No other pot I have can cook popcorn properly (it'll burn). This pot... Definitely can, but you gotta dump it into a different pot right after, because it'll keep cooking for about a minute or three after the heat is off.
I once thought about trying this in a bread machine, but my wife wouldn't go for it. Probably wouldn't have enough agitation anyway.
why do this when u can spend 5 hrs at walmart lol, great lesson on the beans ! Thankyou
Hahaha, you are littering sir ! Stop tossing out the coffee beans :)
